  • £3000 TV vs £1400 Projector... Triple laser projectors will bury your TV! This is a side by side comparison of the brand new Nexigo Aurora Pro 4K versus a £3000 Telly.
    This video is sponsored by Nexigo, all opinions are my own.
    UPDATE Soooo... The Kickstarter campaign hit a major snag 2 days ago and Kickstarter have removed the campaign without warning or a clear explanation. I can't legally go into why, but trust me when I say it sounds like typical corporate greed and not on Nexigo's part 😉
    Nexigo are obviously frustrated and have been trying to figure this out with Kickstarter BUT you can still pre-order the projector using Amazon pay from the Nexigo website (linked below), so that you can still buy with confidence. This only happened a couple days ago so the Kickstarter campaign will likely resurface (if that's your preference) once Nexigo's legal team have spoken to Kickstarter's people.
    In the mean time Nexigo are honouring all the orders they already had and are sticking to their agreed prices and deals. Full statement from Nexigo here: www.nexigo.com/blogs/conversa...

    Wow. The specs on the Aurora Pro 4K are awesome but, as you say, I like the real-case examples as well.|
    Also, good call on the screen reflections on a TV being more obtrusive than bright wash.
    In addition to home entertainment use, I can see using something like this in a conference or class room where you don't want to devote a whole section of the room to A/V all the time. The size of the screen makes it reasonable to use in a space where even a large TV would just look puny.
    Great review as usual. I appreciate the detail you go into when talking about the pros and cons as well as the honesty when you talk about things that may be a matter of taste or opinion.

    The 120Hz in / 60 Hz out is just part of the 3D. Since 3D is technically two streams being inputted simultaneously at 60 Hz a piece and then overlayed... it pretty much equals 60 Hz (left) + 60 Hz (right) / 60 Hz (combined).

    THANK YOU SO MUCH @paulhibbert for bringing up an issue that Flat Panel TV reviewers skip ALL THE TIME.
    TV Glare is horrendous no matter how "deep dark" those blacks are on a television. It makes the image quality WORSE because it invites MORE GLARE! I too prefer a little bit of fade over overpowering glare blocking my viewing experience.
    "Just close the blinds..." if I'm going to close the blinds anyway, I may as well get a projector setup! I am LOVING how much more affordable Ultra Short Throw projectors are becoming and this one is most likely going to replace my Bedroom TV as I ALREADY have a nice projector setup in the livingroom.
    Great video, keep up the good work! I really enjoyed this and the fact that finally SOMEONE points out that TV Glare is a major DEAL BREAKER on Flat Panel TVs because you can just as easily mitigate image fade on a projector as you can TV Glare so why not just go with the projector instead????

    Projectors have a special quality that was lost when we moved away from CRTs, As in both cases they're projecting light onto an object, there is natural light scattering that has an anti-aliasing effect (Which you identified at 7:30)
    Its why a lot of retro gamers still use CRTs, because the games look strange on modern TVs/Monitors because they were made with that effect in mind.
    Alongside the lack of the black void, varying image sizes for content, TV quality picture, and that natural anti-aliasing effect; I can see a lot of people choosing projectors over TVs as the Ultra-short throw technology matures and continues to drop in price, further into the competitive price space for TVs. I personally will be buying one once they start entering my price range for this quality.

    • @Zebra66
      @Zebra66 Před 8 měsíci +1

      That's not why people use CRTs for retro games.
      The unique quality about crt is that it can switch resolutions. Crt projectors like the Sony G90 can display anything from 240p to 1080p without scaling.
      All flat-screen displays and current projectors have fixed resolutions. Upscaling old 240p games to fit 1080p or 4k screens creates ugly jaggies, loss of detail and lag.
      There is no anti aliasing effect on CRTs. Just poor quality scaling on LCDs, plasma, Oled and loose.
      Those jagged edges are not extra clarity. They are scaling artifacts.

    • @SamPhoenix_
      @SamPhoenix_ Před 8 měsíci

      @@Zebra66 "Those jagged edges are not extra clarity. They are scaling artifacts."
      Thank you for explaining what aliasing is...
      "It's not an anti-aliasing effect" in the sense that aliasing has never existed on CRTs due to the way they work; but when compared to non-CRTs that do have aliasing, it's an anti-aliasing effect.

    • @MrDamo34

    The biggest advantage of a projector is IMO that you can activate it for those quality moments like watching a movie. For watching the news or weatherforecast you dont want the screen to dominate the room. Smaller tv and projector is better than 1 big tv. Just hook them both up to a receiver with 2 hdmi outputs and you can watch the same content on both.

    Well unashamed sponsorship success story here. I haven’t heard of this projector but impulse bought it while finishing your video up. Here’s why, the company is established with a few products out there already. I am concerned with quality but that’s the risk you take at the lower price point. I was going to pull the trigger on a high end laser projector already to replace my UST LG PF1000W. The LG is a good projector but it really doesn’t pop that much, is 1080, and even with my Elite Screens ALR, its still lacking. I’m hoping this gives me a few years of use and hopefully the longevity of it is worth the risk. Thanks Paul for the review!

    • @paulhibbert

      Thanks mate! The reason I leave it out is because the videos are produced 2 weeks in advance and I was finding I was finishing a video and then 2 weeks later having to go in and change the price as it had been updated… and then having to re-export the video, reupload it and then having to fill out all the info on CZcams again. It was frustrating finishing work for the week and then having to go back in and do another hours work just because the price had gone up or down.

      You are correct regarding the "rainbow effect" on DLP. It occurs because a DLP projector throws up a red image, then a green image, then a blue image, then repeats. This is because a typical DLP projector is monochromatic, and to get color they use a color wheel for each of the colors. This time shifted RGB is why you moving can cause the color issues. (Try watching through a fan sometime.)

    Hopefully the future upcoming microLED TVs are cheaper and with less energy consumption. They are matte and big with extrem contrast.

    I’ll keep my C2….I enjoy OLED and HDR too much. And if I was buying something, it would be a QD-OLED, not a projector. I got nothing against projectors, but they don’t have the same PQ as a self emissive display.
    Bigger isn’t always better in my eyes either. I get its more “immersive”, but there’s issues that arise when blowing something up so large. My eyes go to every imperfection much faster on large displays. I personally like a higher ppi. I’m all about clarity, and not seeing artifacts.
    I bet you had sharpness and/or AI enabled on the TV too…also, you didn’t explain if it was displaying a native signal, being upscaled, etc. Apples to apples comparisons and transparency is important when claiming something is “so much better”.

    • @saintkamus14
      @saintkamus14 Před 8 měsíci

      bigger, or bigger "for the price" is the only reason to get anything other than an OLED, but it's a damn good reason.
      I always try to convince people to get an OLED if they can afford it, but if they mention that they want a bigger screen for the same price, (or less in a lot of situations) then I'll stop trying to convince them.
      As far as "big screens go" there's already somewhat affordable 98" televisions out there, which is wild (4k for an LCD... about 5x more for the OLED counterpart)
      For projectors, these UST laser ones seems to be the way to go if you want a really large screen. But if you want contrast that gets meaningfully close to an OLED, there's only one game in town: LCoS from JVC.

      The screen wash is an issue even in a completely dark room, unless you paint your walls black and wear black shirts too. The light is reflected off the screen, bounces off the walls and lights up the screen again. Yes, it's not as bad as during daytime, but it is there.

      @@bustercolin7507It's a general issue with projectors, thus no, I don't buy one. If size at an affordable priceis all that matters, yeah, projectors are a decent option. But for optimal image quality, you need something else. Unless you have a ton of money to _build_ a dedicated theater and are willing to equip it with high end equipment. And even then, if I had that sort of money (a few 100k), I'd probably be looking at microLED these days.

    You pay more for UST than a regular throw projector for the same quality, plus you need an ALR screen, and the distance from the screen means you lose 3' of floor space in front of the screen -- although I assume this could be ceiling mounted to avoid losing the floor space even if your review didn't mention that. A 150" image is 11' wide, which would have most people sitting at least 11' away, so a room a minimum 12' deep. That is enough depth for a Benq X3000i if it faces a mirror on the rear wall from 16" away, and that mirror gives you a good place to mask top and bottom black bars. The only use case I see for UST is to avoid people walking between projector and screen, ie. standup gaming like tennis or golf.

    • @paulhibbert
      @paulhibbert  Před 8 měsíci +2

      A UST is brighter because there is less distance for the light to travel, it is also more convenient to install as you don’t have to find a beam in your ceiling to drill it to. The sound also comes from the front of the room instead of above your head and can be more easily wired to a sound system without having to run cables through your ceiling.
      Trust me when I say that pulling your upstairs floorboards up to run a super long hdmi cable from your sound system up your wall and across half your house is not fun and does not impress the wife.
      It can NOT be hung from the ceiling, not that I would want to attempt to do so!
      The assumption when making the video was that a person looking to buy a 100” display will have the 2 and a bit feet of floor space. It’s still more convenient than the TV’s permanent wall hogging or worse, window hogging.

    • @PrinceBarin77
      @PrinceBarin77 Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@paulhibbertcompletely agree. I am lucky enough to have a dedicated home theatre room and I ran cables through the floors and ceiling for my 7.4.2 but still went UST over a standard projector. Mainly because I didn’t want to mount a 25kg JVC 4k monolith from my ceiling. I have an LG HU8LS that is bright enough for us to watch sports, play games and watch stuff with the kids without having to close the blinds. And I haven’t blighted the ceiling so the room still looks / works as a conventional room. I might go for a standard projector at some point if we commit to staying at this house forever but, for my first projector, a UST was ideal.
      Edit: I have to admit, accommodating a centre speaker and a UST was a pain and, IMO, the biggest compromise over a standard projector in my case. I managed it with a dedicated stand but it’s not ideal.

      @paulhibbert  Před 6 měsíci

      Ah Ok. Depends on use case really, the horizon ultra is what they call a lifestyle projector and most of your money is going into making it easily luggable, though the picture is incredible! It’s also been designed to work well on walls, even if they have a bit of colour. You can get it out and use it and put it away when done.
      The Nexigo is for creating a proper home cinema with a permanent setup, obviously more difficult if you have kids with sticky fingers, or a wife that just won’t put up with it! It has a better speaker and a better picture, but you’ll need a good screen for it, and preferably an ALR screen specifically designed for ultra short throw projectors to really get the best out of it. Its picture will beat the ultra regardless of the screen though for contrast ratio and brightness.
      Over all though I think the ultra produces more natural colours (in my opinion), my favourite Ultra short throw is still the XGIMI one I reviewed a while back, though I think it’s more expensive than the Nexigo
