Seeing familiar territory in videos like this never gets old! I'm glad the hostel worked out for you. The town seemed abandoned when I went through a few years ago.
Thank goodness you're on The Katy Trail and out of the water, the shelter looked very nice. Good luck, I hope things are going well for you. I think of you two while watching the weather reports about the heavy weather up north.
Yikes, you’re giving me flashbacks to 1993 when this river really flooded. Did disaster recovery closer to Kansas City where the river washed out a cemetery in Hardin. Think your path goes elsewhere. Safe travels.
Every time you cut to a shot of the debris on the flooded Missouri River I'm glad you two didn't opt to try canoeing it this year, as I think you briefly considered toward the end of your Mississippi River series last year. I didn't know what a graveyard of river shipping the Missouri was until I visited the Steamship Arabia museum in Kansas City (from an excavated 19th century steamship wreck). Not nearly as welcoming a river as its more traveled sibling.
I’m glad you could take advantage of the Turner Shelter house. It was set up through a trust fund by the lady (Mrs. Turner) who owned it as a general store. Too bad you didn’t order dinner from Rachel. She’s awesome and makes the yummiest food. I am wondering if you ordered breakfast the next morning. She has/had coffee!!!
Seems like if a very small town made a effort to accept and accommodate hikers, bikers with a more than decent overnight facility that you could at the least not just make light of their efforts.
If you're trying to do all 11 nat'l scenic trails you'd have another chance to stay at a lock house on the C&O canal, though the PHT does seem more suited to bike packing.
Interesting. Presumably it can’t be any worse than the Nachez Trace looks. We’ll see if I end up doing the NST11 specifically vs just hiking anything and everything

later that evening, marching band from local July 4 parade shows up.

We tried but sadly we never received a response that night or the next morning. Probably due to the holiday
@@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes I bet you’re right. I hope you were able to make coffee (maybe I’ll find out on your next video).
Thanks. ✌🏻👊🏼
You know your Social Anxiety Disorder is in the red level when you're scared to share a giant, two story shelter with even one more hiker. 🤣
Hey Y'all. Good choice, much better than a flooded campsite!
Day 91. Impressive shelter. Love how The Bishop is dead set on not being around people…agree it did have a murder house feel.

This makes me wonder if there were native American trails along the Missouri in 1804.
was that rock giving the thumbs up?
Should have gone with one of the classics.
A good blood smear and a hand scrawled sign reading:
💀Abandon all hope ye who ever here 💀
Geeze! You people really don’t like people 😮
