I was crisscrossing Glacier national nearing the end of my hike I smelled the most horrendous smell. I thought I must of stepped on a dead skunk. I could not wait to get to my truck to get away from my boots. I get to the truck take of my boots and suddenly realized that dead skunk smell was me! I went to resupply with food but I set outside for a while to get up the nerve to walk inside because of the way I smelled. The second I walked in the door the person behind the register slammed shower tokens on the counter and said the shower was outback. I simply told the person behind the register THANK YOU!

🤣 When near the end of Massachusetts on AT I started smelling something bad in my tent. I thought I set my tent up on dog poop or something worse. Turned out to be me and all my gear 😎✌

25 miles/day in 90 degrees plus temperature is very impressive. The bad news is that it only gets harder as one gets older. Good luck and thanks for sharing the adventure.

There's something sort of intense about land as aggressively flat as Kansas.

You might need to check your ID. The fact that you are no longer 20 might be a difference.
95 + is difficult even for youngsters. Let alone those that might be a wee bit older. Take care of you. You know what is best.

When I made a trip from Kansas to Yellowstone back in 83 I would camp in the back of my Ranger pickup every other night. The first night I drove into a corn field west of Garden City, Ks. Was probably an irrigation road. Luckily didn't get stuck. Was left alone.

Goodness! I am from Kansas very near to some of those spots and I’ve grandchildren in one of those towns. It is rude, if nothing else, to consistently make fun of an area that has a lot of beauty if you stop and look . Beauty can’t be defined by only one definition.

    • @jenniferblackie2027

We definitely don’t mean to be rude, we just tell our honest experience with each area we pass through, with a good dose of Matt’s sense of humor mixed in ;)
Anyway, could you tell us more about what you find beautiful in this area? We always like hearing what locals most enjoy/appreciate about a place

O.K., I really had to go look at that thumbnail picture, I was wondering what the heck kind of fact Taters was making? Then it turned out to be an AI Taters and she didn't look happy. I've told you in previous posts that I live in Central Indiana and most of my hiking is county roads in farm country. For that reason, I carry water purification tablets, and two filters, the first being the Katadyn BeFree, the second being the Grayl Press. If I were in the mountains I'd forgo the Press filter, but in farm country, the Press filter is an activated charcoal filter that will help to remove chemical contaminants. However, it clogs easier with sediment than a microfiber filter and is the reason for the pre-filtering with the microfiber filter. It can also double as a 24 oz. water bottle. That might be something to consider in a resupply? Glad to see you're making some good miles. Cheers! 🍻

just found your site and wow. im already intrigued! however, lol, can't help myself but state what I would do differently. this comes from 'eotwawki' type prepping for 15+ years now. if I planned a hike in the hot af summer, I would hike in the evening to nighttime. no sense depleting your resources or working harder than necessary, still gonna get to the destination. track the moon and weather and enjoy a totally different kind of hike, I say. so yes, to a break in the shade I suppose, but definitely no ac along the way, as in, going out of my way to get ac. if I'm gonna hike, im gonna hike! I do not mean to be judgey, just stating what I would do and if you glean any new info from what I say, then that's groovy ✌🏼 stay safe!!
