You're now ready to check out Aeyreon - The Day That The World Breaks Down.... huge projector Prog rock with 11 main singers from other groups. You will not be disappointed.
I love that one, i hope he will listen to that soon, Arjan is a musical genius...
Planning to hit that one this upcoming week!
@@TomTuffnuts Thank you!
@@TomTuffnuts This would be the perfect blend of your new found love for symphonic metal and your wife’s love of musical Theater. You need to do it as a joint reaction. And consider listening to the album as a whole of ‘The Source’ it is a Rock Opera and the closest thing to Broadway that this genre gets. Others to consider in the rock opera mode would be Quadraphenia by the Who, The Wall by Pink Floyd or The Astonishing by Dream Theater
Greetings from The Netherlands 😍😍😍 Another dutch Metal Queen on your channel. Nice boy you have their folks 👍
Such a cute young one. Keith Emerson from ELP did it with a grand piano. Suspended in air spinning 40 years ago.
Hi Tom Tuffnuts
Thank you so much for reacting to Epica, greetings from Denmark
What a family !!
You guys are awesome, Tom, thanks for sharing Sarah, she is a gem, and the chemistry between you, intriguing.
The World needs more of you and your gorgeous little family !!
👏👏👏👏😊😊😊❤
Sancta Terra by Epica with Floor Jansen as guest singer. Do it!
We will be getting to this song in the next day or two
@@TomTuffnuts then fasten your seat belt Two dutch godesses singing together with a unreal good chemestry
or stabat mater dolorosa, same concert ..... and if you do it ..... then imagine the song afterwards at any rap gig .... and the reaction of the crowd ^^
Your wife will like it also, I'm sure.
@@TomTuffnuts In this version the best quality Epica - Sancta Terra (feat Floor Jansen) Live Retrospect show
I would go first to listen to Design your Universe, Unleashed and The Divine Conspiracy of the Retrospect live show. These are Epica classic songs , Sancta Terra is just a simple straightforward song in the Epica catalog.
Btw on most Epica songs you'll hear much more from leadsinger soprano Simone Simons. This song Consign to Oblivion is one of the few where the grunts are more used than the clean vocals.
DYU has quite a lot of growling too. Unleashed doesn't have any, so maybe that's what they should do next.
Welcome to Nightwish.
And now it's time to say.. welcome to Epica.
Top 2 favorite bands ever.
Nightwish, Epica.....now do our Canadian female lead band Unleash the Archers, the Abyss album is breathtaking! Oh, Canada! 🇨🇦
Epicas last album 'Omega' is a real treat... Check out 'Skeleton Key' or 'Rivers'.. even the wifu would appreciate these more than this
Epic(a). Nice. A family reaction. One of the greatest symphonic/heavy metal bands in the world from the Netherlands. I’m Dutch but only learned about Epica a year ago while watching reaction videos. “Sancta Terra” is a great one to react to. No growling but featuring Floor Jansen. Am a great fan now. Have tickets for their live-stream concert next month and their live concert next year. Thank you for this reaction.
Mark is a heavy screamer, but this is one of the heavier songs for him. Also, one of the lighter songs for Simone's part.
I know you're going to cover 'Sancta Terra' very soon - if Sarah doesn't join you I will be writing a letter of complaint!!🤣
📝
Worst Epica song to react to.
Another DUTCH band! Btw the singer Simone Simons and Floor Jansen are friends and were roommates back in the Netherlands... 😁 Check Epica's jubileum concert you will hear Simone more prominent and there are two songs with Floor Jansen, Sancta Terra and Stabat Matar you must! Listen to that!!!!!! 😁
Jesus, stop talking about Floor all the time, even below Epica videos. This is about Epica and Simone.
They have reacted to Nightwish already, so why not to keep posting Floor stuff there? I love Floor, but Simone and Epica deserve much more attention. Yet Floor fans flock here and try to recommend only videos with Floor, again and again. Wake up people!
And no, Floor and Simone weren't roommates.
@@cancelled_user Relax Kyle, breath in, breath out. Though you are right of course, a simple 'Can we keep it to epica here' with your own epica recommendation is a less agressive more pleasant rebuke.
@@impugnu7852 Yeah, you can if it wasn't for the hundredth time. It becomes a bit annoying over time, you know...
@@cancelled_user Well ofcourse your right. Btw i am leaning more to Epica but i was a bit enthousiastic as a proud Dutchie so i referred to the anniversary show for all their songs and a extra teaser the ones with Floor and Simone together.
@@cvb6089 OK, no problem mate ;)
My aunt has 4 boys too. They were always wrestling and play fighting. I think they did till late in their 20's... It's a miracle my aunt is still a sane human being. lol. Epica is so epic that they even have synchronized headbanging on stage and a skateboard keyboard. Weeeee! Check out Epica -Sancta Terra feat Floor Jansen, live. With the wifey! No growling in that one.
Simon Simons is a fantastic singer and Epica have their name for a special reason: They are really Epic.
Simone is by the way friend with Floor Jansen. Check out Epicas "Sancta Terra" to sing them both together with a full orchestra and choir behind them.
Epica and Nightwish pretty much are the top dogs symphonic metal. Epica has various styles much like Nightwish but they tend to be heavier. Simone is a goddess for sure. Her voice just does something to you. Once you hear her in songs like Chasing The Dragon .. you will be just put in a trance. You can’t go wrong listening to any song of theirs. And like Nightwish they released a new album fairly recently so there is a lot of good songs to choose from .. both recent and older.
Yeah, for me Simone's voice is like taking an antidepressant. It makes this light sort of come on in my brain. Can't think of any other singer who does that for me.
Lovely family you have 🤘❤️🇳🇱
Nice, you watched the Nightwish from the Netherlands!
Simone is a musical friend of Floor Jansen.
Greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
Lower growls? You asked for it: Amorphis - The Bee (Official music video)
Amon Amarth - Raven's Flight
This was at the end of a long show..I personally like the contrast between her voice and his growls...Beauty and the Beast!
After 'Santa Terra' you shoult check out Epicas 'Unleashed' from the Retrospect-Concert, it's mindblowing!
Epica released an album this year and it does not disappoint. Try "Abyss of Time" and "Rivers". Rivers has to be my favorite song from the album hands down and showcases Simone's voice so beautifully. Epica takes the symphonic(light) metal(dark) to the extreme and contrasts the voices very well. Mark's lyrics always have a specific theme or message contrasted to Simone's lyrics and voice. I don't know if you researched Consign to Oblivions lyrics but they always have some sort of message in their songs and every album has a specific theme. After all it's all poetry.
PS: Your kids are so adorable :3
Metal created a beautiful marriage❤️
The growls will grow on you...it does work.
This is my favorite video ever on your channel
Epica has three different excellent live sessions recorded over hte last 15+ years. First Simone was just 18 or so. The two later (Classical Conspiracy, Retrospect) are concerts with FULL orchestra and choir. DO IT
Great, I learn new words: Hacky Loogy (or however you spell that) ;o) Thanks to the wifey!
Epica - Mark Jansen (the growler/screamer/rhythm guitarist) was in a band with Floor Jansen (Nightwish - no family relation) called "After Forever"
Simone Simons, the band's front woman, is best friend with Floor Jansen and they shared a flat at some point (no confirm)
Coen Janssen (still no family relation) plays on two types of keyboards - the one you've seen and a curved Nu-Motion Revo 1 - you'll see that one too if you keep on reacting to Epica.
Simone compares the drummer, Ariên van Weesenbeek to a duracell rabbit - he never stops!
Lead guitaris Issac Delahaye and bassist is Rob van der Loo.
Next suggested stop: Sancta Terra - ft. Floor Jansen, from Epica's 10th year jubilaeum concert, Retrospect: czcams.com/video/cx22Yuj2nzg/video.html
Wifey wants to see and react to that one too, I'm sure!
Epica-design your universe-retrospect show listen until the end though
Epica-the Skeleton key
Epica-rivers (for the wife)
Ayreon- the Day that the world breaks down
I think Sarah will like Nightwish more than Epica due to the absence of the growling (mostly) but there are some amazing Epica songs that feature more of Simone and less growling. The music from both bands is stellar.
Symphonic Metal is the best invention from Europe !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Simone Simons, our beautiful Dutch Ginger Metal Queen, with one the great songs from her band Epica. Her high operatic vocal qualities are remarkable blending terrificly with the growls (not too many) of the other male team members. Listen also to the other great female fronted ladies of the Netherlands I would recommend. Anneke van Giersbergen (The Gathering), Charlotte Wessels (Delain), Floor and her sister Irene Jansen (Ayreon, Mayan, Revamp, After Forever, Nightwish), Zora Cock (Blackbriar), Dianne van Giersbergen (ao. Xandria), Sharon den Adel (Within Temptation), only a few I have mentioned thus far ........
OMG... you just made the same mistake I did 3 times.. Introducing my kids to metal since 1996.. Get ready for a life with metalheads.. Love you!!!!!!
BTW.. The lady is Simone Simons.
Rather them rock out to metal, than listen to that mumble rap garbo
@@TomTuffnuts Amen 🤘
Mumble rap.... :D Definitely! But wait till Within Temptation fans hear this, lol
Great show! Not 'The Greatest Show On Earth', but rather 'epic', by being invaded by two of a total of four beautiful kids, haha! Epic reaction video, guys! Love from The Netherlands...
Yes they are, well, Epic. And really fine musicians. Congratulations for making it through to the end.
Firstly..cute and lively kids! Your wife's got an epic cute hat 😁 bit of problem with headphones though 😅 keep rocking with more NW and metal 🤘
If you do not check Sancta Terra yet, let me tell you that in that show Simone, the singer; was 3 months pregnant there (I'm talking about their 10 years celebration concert). Simone is one of the actual Dutch metal queens.
Simone actually kept performing until she was 7 months pregnant, and it didn't negatively impact her singing at all. People who know more about singing than me say very few women can do that. She only stopped because she couldn't put on her shoes anymore!
New cd Omega brill, Kingdom of Heaven part 3 best tune ever. Well done. Will see them in Glasgow next year 😁
The best quad reaction ever!
Congrats...😄😄😄😄
So now you realise there is more than one good symphonic female singer and a friend of Floor. Next Epica performance definitely Sancta Terra ft Floor Jansen, or Ayreon with The Day That The World Breaks Down.
mark always sounds this way, and dang, I've wanted a word for what "this way" is and hacky is so totally it! hit the nail right on the head in my opinion! though, I love mark's growls, and I don't think the hacky is a bad thing at all! he's kinda very limited in what he can do with the growling, but he does it incredibly tastefully and very well, i think. and yeah, the contrast and interplay and overlap between the two vocals is a big part of the draw. nice video yall :)
edit to add: simone is probably my favorite vocalist? just like her incredibly inventive, expressive, impactful, and heckin catchy vocal melodies. there's a splendid and unique body of work here if you look into more epica! the drummer is a legend, for sure!
Don't feel too bad that you don't like the growls much. I'm not big on TOO much growls either. I prefer the songs where they use it sparingly. Love all the compositions of the songs though.
It's the contrast between the growls and the angelic vocals that makes Epica great! Notice the same theme in the lightshow, stark white against black, and Simones dress, white/silver and black stripes.
If your wife does'nt like this 'hacky' 😁 growls you should have her listen to Sancta Terra ft Floor Jansen. The guy does'nt sing in that song and it's amazing! I think it sounds hacky because he sings with a Dutch accent. (By the way, I think you must be the luckiest man in the world with such a beautiful wife and adorable kid ❤) Greetings and love from The Netherlands!
Dutch accent on growls? Heheh :))
Epica has many songs without growls (and these are not ballads), for example:
Veniality - czcams.com/video/ndK4iOWbqyA/video.html
Unleashed - czcams.com/video/eNGzltK_tlc/video.html
In all Conscience - czcams.com/video/09e0jIYT5e4/video.html
Quietus - czcams.com/video/nrI9_xF9x5A/video.html
Natural Corruption - czcams.com/video/-YjUFXebjp8/video.html
Unchain Utopia - czcams.com/video/ClmnwsnSHdQ/video.html
Burn to a Cinder - czcams.com/video/xXtkAOfmayo/video.html
Blank Infinity - czcams.com/video/eyeiW8ENlEg/video.html
@@cancelled_user Thanks! It was just an uneducated guess from my part. 😁. I really did'nt understand what she ment by that word.
The guitarist doing the growl vocals, Mark Jansen, was originally in the same band as Floor Jansen (no relation) called After Forever. Check out some of their songs as well.
Another vote for "Chasing the Dragon" @ Retrospect. Tom - your face when Simone started singing! Arien van Weesenbeek on drums - hitting things since he was 3yo! Luckily he soon found his dad's drumkit! Coen on keys and impromptu screams!
Just remind them to pay attention to music rather than video :) Many reactors miss some music parts while focusing on videos and asking questions about them.
Now check out songs from the Retrospect Concert.... Monopoly of Truth, Unleashed, Sancta Terra ft Floor Jansen, Stabat Mater Delarosa also ft Floor, and Design Your Universe. As usual a great reaction.....
Dolorosa, not Delarosa :)
Tom, you do have an awesome family.
Consign to Oblivian is one of the heavier growling songs they do. Try Chasing the Dragon Live Retrospect to hear what Simone can really do. It will def drive in some goosies.
There is growling/screaming as well. I would recommend them acoustic Dreamscape to show Simone's vocal abilities.
Do you know it? czcams.com/video/VnRdKXt67rY/video.html
Or here: czcams.com/video/7b9q8ybwKNU/video.html
Such a cute family. IMHO its never to early to start introducing the kids to Symphonic Metal 👶🤘
Nice reaction. It would be nice to see you react to their new song "omega". Their latest album is named Omega as well. It will blow your minds
Loved this rehearsal. I also recommand the "Dutch metal queen" Anneke van Giersbergen (The Gathering, Vuur, Devin Townsend) It's another epic journey. I've met her once, she is so sweet.
That kid is confused af😂😂
Epica-Chasing the Dragon live Retrospect !
Hi Tom, this is a catchy one, this song will be stuck in your head for days:
EPICA - Beyond The Matrix (OFFICIAL VIDEO)
Another great reaction! This is only the third song I've heard from this group and I agree with your wife. The male voice has me on the fence at times too. Keep it up and comming.
EPICA another symphonic metal band (with some other influences) is one of the Metal Super League bands (and they are from the Netherlands). They are masters of contrast and 'texture' in composition, lyrics and performance. They released their 8th album in February (all good but especially Abyss of Time, Skeleton Key, and Rivers).
For their anniversary they performed the 'Retrospect' show (it is on YT and any song is awesome) with symphony orchestra and full choir.
Favourites to listen: Consign to Oblivion, Chasing the Dragon, Sancta Terra, the Divine Conspiracy, Unleashed, Essence of Silence, Kingdom of Heaven [all parts], Cry for the Moon, Design your Universe, Storm the Sorrow, Unchain Utopia.
Hope you enjoy listening! (And I expect you will get some other Legionnaires to react) :)
Epica is my favorit band 😁. If you like skilled drummer, you might enjoy Dimmu Borgir - gateways (live forces of the northern night) not a big fan of the band but that preformenc is great! A darker version of epica. Not a Playlist song, more of a show worthy of experience.
Yeah, i'm also no an of the growling and made for me a folder where i just have all the Epica songs where only Simone sings. Exception is "Abyss of Time" where i think there they have done it very well with the short back and forth between Simone and the growl.
I have the same problem with Amaranth, to much growling and not enough Elize and a while ago a saw a video of Metalite and really had to laugh when one comment said : thats how Amaranth could be without male vocals.
Also very happy that Melissa Bonny in her recent project Ad Infinitum does nearly no growls anymore since i really love her normal voice but Rage of Light was just not my thing.
So you don't listen for example to "Storm the Sorrow" because there is literally 20 seconds of growling? Or "Never Enough" because a couple screams that you can barely hear? In Storm the Sorrow, Mark's short section with growls builds a tension which is then followed by a "relief", just beautiful piano and Simone's angelic voice. Incredibly beautiful.
I wish more fans would understand the duality... good vs evil, light vs dark, etc. That's what Mark's vs Simone's vocals represent. It does even have its name: beauty and the beast. That's how it's called in gothic metal from where it originated.
@@cancelled_user Works wonderful in the song "Beauty and the beast" even without growling.
And like i said it also works with growling for me in Abyss of time, there i makes sense and the growling is not (imho) overused, but too often its just endless growling and more like beast and the beast and they totally forget the beauty.
@@beldin2987 That's not the case with Epica. Most songs are well balanced when it comes to Mark's vs Simone's vocals. But usually you can hear Simone and the choir much more.
What about Serenade of Self-Destruction, for example? Absolutely stunning song, would be a shame to not listen to it just because of a little growling here and there. It's like maybe 70% Simone and choir and 30% Mark. But if you only listen to songs with no growls, you will miss the whole masterpiece. czcams.com/video/nohoGUsr7R8/video.html
Listen from 4:10 till the end (9:52), no growls, pure beauty.
Check out Epica Design Your Universe Live Retrospective. the same concert where Simone and Floor Jansen of Nightwish had their duets on Sancta Terra and Stabat Mater Dolorosa.
Personally I am not a friend of growls so I understand her opinion so well.
Classical and Metal aren't polar opposites. Many Metal musicians studied classical composition. Beethoven, Vivaldi, Chopin etc were as shocking in their time.
Hey you like Consign to Oblivion than check out Kindom of Haven Live in Mexico 2014 but a liddel Warning kindom of Haven is 14 min Mind Blow have fun
Hi Tuffnuts........NOW TRY THIS ONE BY Oblivion - M83 (cover by Floor Jansen).
Yess, Epica! More Epica!!! Simone, I love youuuu! Please react to Design your Universe.
Hi from the UK 🇬🇧 check out Epica unleashed live retrospect show (full orchestra on stage with the band 👌) epick piro)
And Epica sancta terra with floor jansen live retrospect show
Listen to Epica "stabat mater dolorosa" with Floor Jansen...You and your wife will like this one...
Maybe it’s wiser to look at the lyrics IOT understand why he is screaming that angry.
Other Epica’s songs your wife also can appreciate are: ‘Sancta Terra’ and ‘Stabat Mater Dolorosa’ live duet Simone Simons (Epica) with ft. Floor Jansen.
How can we let this happen and
Just keep our eyes closed 'till the end?
The only thing that counts is the prosperity of today
Most important to us is that our bills get paid
Our good intentions have always been delayed
How can we let this happen and
Just keep our eyes closed till the end?
When we will stand in front of heaven's gate
It will be too late!
Try to unlearn all that you've learnt
Try to listen to your heart
No, we can't understand the universe
By just using our mind
We are so afraid of all the things unknown
A must we appease is the lust to get laid
Nothing really matters, just devouring our prey
Our good intentions have always been delayed so
Our generous acts have always come too late
How can we let this happen and
Just keep our eyes closed' till the end
When we will stand in front of heaven's gate
It will be too late
Try to unlearn all that you've learnt
Try to listen to your heart
No, we can't understand the universe
By just using our mind
We are so afraid of all the things unknown
We just flee into a dream that never comes true
Low, low, low to the ground we feel safe
Low, low, low to the ground we feel brave
Oblivisci tempta quod didicisti
Open your eyes we're not in paradise
How can't you see, this stress is killing me
Fulfil your dreams, life is not what is seems
We have captured time
So time made us all hostages without mercy
Seemingly generous fooling ourselves
Selfishly venomous time tells
Too much thinking goes at the cost of all our intuition
Our thoughts create reality
But we neglect to be!
So we're already slaves of our artificial world
We shouldn't try to control life
But listen to the laws of nature
Open your eyes we're not in paradise
How can't you see, this stress is killing me
Fulfil your dreams, life is not what is seems
We have captured time
So time made us all hostages without mercy
Low, low, low to the ground we feel safe
Low, low, low to the ground we feel brave
We all think we're generous
But we only fool ourselves
The only thing that matters is
Our way and our vision
Selfishly we're venomous
But you know the time tells us
There is more to life than our
Higher positions, race for perfection
Better, faster
We must return to the laws of the nature
Free ourselves from madness
Amazing reaction with the familiy together 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Chasing the Dragon next please, kids Will like 😉
Mark Jansen and Floor Jansen was in the same band before Epica and Nightwish. Floor and Simone is bff.
If you Wanna see a keyboard you never seen before check out "Abyss of time" by Epica. Just do!
The Skeletor key is also a brilliant song and If the missed wants a song without and growls, check out rivers.
Look here Mr & Mrs Tuffnuts, listen to a heap of classical orchestral music and tell me it just metal but without electricity.
Nice touch in Paris to slip in a bar of la Marseillaise isn't it.
EPICA - next band forever.... !!! Next should be Sancta Terra - as you know already by other army members.... hopefully you recognized that small Tuffnuts also enjoyed this....
Hmy little one Gimli loves metal haha, hes headbanged to Nightwish already...smart kid
Hi Tom! I like your Nightwish reactions, i think i see all of them. I also like your lovely Family, you are a happy men! I would wish i had one... . Do all you can, Family is the most importand thing and your wife is also very nice. 4 Boys, wow, but next maybe a girl? 😉😊
I like Epica, Simon Simons is also a very good singer, check out their song "Sancta Terra", with Floor and Simon! I think you 2 like it.
Greetings and all my best wishes to you and your wife from Vienna🇦🇹Austria!
Random question. Hey are you guys Tolkien (LOTR) fans? Curious if that inspired your cute kids name?
Simone is one of the best sopranos in Metall 🤘
If you're looking for next, really good ones from them, Unleashed or Design your Universe are fantastic.
Also same show as Sancta Terra which has already been mentionned !
And you should be able to hear more of her from theses if that's what you want ;)
Oh heck yeah!
Some good bands with awesome growls. Orbit Culture and Amorphis.
next: EPICA Design your universe/Retrospect live
That's another one with growling :]
🤣 Hakki and loogi 🤣 love it 🤣
Great reaction to this epic song from Epica. Check out Amaranthe, if you haven't already.
Symphonic and Death Metal combined
Nice reaction! try EPICA - Unleashed (OFFICIAL LIVE) here they sing with an orchestra and chorus I think you guys love it!
More for Sarah: Live (Retrospect show) - *_"Sancta Terra"_* : czcams.com/video/cx22Yuj2nzg/video.html (duet with Floor)
Tom, if you want to see a band who keeps the crowd going (and the other way around), it's a MUST to see a German band called is *BLIND GUARDIAN* live at Wacken 2016 with *_”The Bard’s Song & Valhalla”_* : czcams.com/video/i-IcX_bccFc/video.html
Simones stunning silver and black stripes, especially for Paris?
Your boy fascinated by what Mum and Dad are doing.
Oh, you're being taken over by the younger generation :)
She is a friend of Floor, check Epica "Sancta Terra"...
Or, another one, partly opera from "Retrospect Concert", "Stabat Mater", the Metal audience goes hushed.
Mark Jansen guitar and growls, was with Floors band, no relation (a common name in Netherlands).
Rammstein keyboard player, on a treadmill...
EPICA! :)
Moonspell - full moon madness
Sancta Terra, Epica with Floor!!
To get some more of their diversity try Storm the Sorrow and The Phantom Agony
I listen to death metal for more than 15 years now and i gotta say i agree with her, he sounds kindda hacky... altough Epica is still amazing
I’m with you with the growling however I have learned to tolerate it more now I’m listening to more metal and even enjoy some of it. Epica is different as they blend both clean and growling vocals ❤️🤘🇦🇺
You are almost ready to meet more aggressive side of cousin of Nightwish on roids with non beatable skills. Band is called Wintersun. Current drummer of Nightwish will show what is human metronome in his other band. Band is also from Finland. Double bass. Triple bass. Changing time signatures. Wintersun "sons of winter and stars" for heavy and "loneliness" for awesome ballad. Take wife with you cause singer has multiple versatile in singing. Life wont be the same.
How many cousins does Nightwish have? :D Last time I heard Epica was Nightwish's heavier cousin. Both Epica and Nightwish are symphonic metal, not so sure about Wintersun.
If you want a good growl, try Amorphis- The Bee.
Tomi Joutsen has one of the richest, fullest sounding growls I've ever heard.
Yep yep that was a little bit hekkie :-)
ok ok ok ok ... Gimli? Plz tell me the other 3 are Aragorn, Legolas, Frodo :D Lots of love to your lovely wife, hugs to all the familly!!!!
Macgyver, Gideon, and Thor
Ok, fine, this is heavy… good guitar riffs, decent female singer yet none of this ain’t Nightwish and Floor, that’s for sure!! ☺️
Shaman - Fairy Tail would surprise you
"Fairy tale" is better ! "Tail" is a part of an animal... 😅
Sit your wife down and listen to Rivers from their latest album. She'll like that.
Yes great Idea goof gets wifey and the 2 year old in to this ,
Invasion of the rug rats! JK, nice family!
