He played 'Theme for Fran’ at Manchester’s Piccadilly station, kicking off the new series of The Piano, featuring Claudia Winkleman, Mika and Lang Lang, with us needing to reach for the tissues!

this was a fix. Judges were debating who they thought should go through and Claudia told them early on it was going to be this man.
Totally agree with you. My wife and I only got the chance to watch the show last night (been away on holiday) and were shocked at the decision. From a fantastic start, continuing with some excellent talent, for Duncan - who we felt wasn't a particularly good pianist - to be chosen over every single other performer was a disgrace and left a sour taste in our mouths. Why on earth was his wife included anyway - she didn't even turn his music (which I know wasn't there!) - apart from adding a bit more schmaltz to influence the judges? What a shameful end to what has been an amazingly good series from the start last year. We'll probably carry on watching but not with the same expectations.
He reminds me of Peter Sellers. Or maybe David Steel?

I've been following the series ever since the last season. There's a reason I feel why some of the candidates especially young kids like Ethan aren't picked for the concert and not too sure if you agree with me. All these repertoire you hear like Pop stuff, Chopin Ballades and Mainstream were pretty mainstream and these could be drilled, the young ones I'm honestly not sure if they possess that needed maturity to be deserving of that stage. I didn't mind the choice of Duncan by Claudia because this is stuff that doesn't really come from the norm where Music is the major factor that is keeping his battle with his disease alive especially at that age.

My opinion: The 9 year old has his whole life ahead of him to play. Duncan is in his waning years. He deserves to play in the concert.
This once enjoyable program has turned into another BBC Repair Shop farce with half the air time another sob story of prearranged contestants made to look as if they have just turned up to a public piano.
Then there is chatter and scene dodging throughout the music to finally mess it up.

Sorry, I found the whole programme insincere and mawkish, with one sob story after another. I felt sick by the end and will never watch again. 😊
Can't watch it love piano but not winklemans silly fringe ...like 70s 80s bowl cuts or mums or kids cutting hair not attractive at all ....Claudia look much prettier feathered natural grown ))
