As a native German speaker I will literally never stop being fascinated by how natural your German sounds. Like honestly, if I wasn't listening too closely I would say you're a native speaker!! Keep up the great work đ
baeeee thank you!! that's good, don't listen too hard đ€Ł
Your German studying videos are never get bored to me and got me motivation to study more. Please make more German study videos. Du bist am besten.
thanks boo!! how sweet
When I took Spanish in high school they made us use a monolingual dictionary, and it was actually really helpful for me because it helped me stop translating in my head. I was even learning words in Spanish without knowing the âcorrectâ translation into English.
yeah you can learn hella synonyms that way!
But... doesn't it slow you down because you have to create new concepts in your mind instead of using the ones you already have?
@@TinaKGreene No actually it is a really good way to build up and helps you become more fluent. It is efficient if you already enough some basics. It builds up on those basic vocabulary. It would take way longer for you to learn the language if you were constantly translating it to understand.
As a Korean student studying in the US, this keeps me motivated to study English. And thanks for the English subtitles! It helps me a lot.
awww keep being amazing boo đ and youâre welcome, i know i have a diverse audience so iâm happy to do it!
I love your videos, & as a German learner your videos are always filled with immensely useful advice and tips! And on top of that hilarious
I know Iâm just another you tuber commenter but honestly big â€ïž thank you !
just another commenter?! i read all my comments! i appreciate u immensely
To be fair I do own a Shakespeare anthology in French that I'm hoping to read this year đ
I love language vlogs and I looooved the editing for this one it was so fun (but also omg not the tutor on her phone the whole time đ)
Glad you found your shoutout boo đđč and I stand corrected!! I just thought I remembered you reading more fiction. And thank you I literally spent way more time than necessary on this
I like your cheeky humor.. it's off the charts witty
Your videos are great! Also, you should try âCriminal: Germanyâ. Itâs a series set in multiple countries and itâs really good!
Iâll look into it! danke Ntukwasi :)
Great video Elysse!! Always fun watching your vids, including the ones related to your language learning journey đđ You definitely inspire me to continue working on my Spanish. Maybe one day Iâll give German a shot! đ Keep it up!
honestly the contrast between the languages might be fun for you! good luck marc
I'm so happy that you are back! I love your videos (they're really well done) and you inspire me a lot. Please continue đâ€ïž
iâll be here :)
Hey Elysse! I reaaally enjoyed the video, very useful, inspirational and funny! keep it going:)
hi Ambar!! youâre so sweet, thank you for taking time to watch :)
giiirlll!! I loved your studying vlog-ish video. I really enjoyed and also Ive got so many infos that will be extremely useful for me while Im learning German. Thank youuuuu
i'm glad i could be of use!! :D good luck friend
Yeah!! I have been waiting for sooo long for another video!!!
more to come boo! thanks for watching
Try out Charité! It goes through German History, so it seems very interesting. I'm about to start it, but I confess I'm procrastinating cause the vocabulary is C1 and I'm not quite there yet
whatâs CharitĂ©, a show? iâll put this on the list!
@@elyssespeaks Yes, it's a show! Each season is set in a different time, it sounded amazingly interesting - and it's just your German level, too :)
It's nice to have you back!, nice video đ
thanks! it's nice to be back :)
The good thing with Anki is you don't have to know/think about the "mathy" part of it. It just does it in the background for you. Part of the reason I prefer it to Quizlet. The UI part I agree with you, quizlet has a lot more love there (probably a lot more people working on it as well)
for sure⊠i was mostly joking, but i hope anki gets an aesthetic upgrade soon! hahaha
Good thing I'm not the only one who doesn't like Anki. I think it's more effective if you learn 10 words per day than like 50 or so with anki and half of the words there you might not need them as a beginner.
I honestly should try it out! My dislike is pretty unfounded, it's all on impression... i'm glad you've figured it out :)
I like anki for the fact that I can create my own flashcards. I prefer creating mine than using theirs
Good job!! I can relate to a lot of things you said and also the methods you use my German is okay but I really like exploring different ways to learn more :)
itâs the only thing that keeps me motivated!! i hate getting into ruts. youtube is one of my fav places to check out other peoples techniques :)
I loved it!! Would love to see a french study vlog
Gush I love your video!! Like you are motivating me so much to keep studying German and how to learn more vocab and talk better. I mean next year I will have "Die ReifeprĂŒfung" (In Polish it's "matura") so I have to study German to you know get this with high score. So thank you so much for your video and I hope we will see more of your German Learning content, because it's so motivating! Thanks for your effort!
Thanks for watching!! it means just as much
You're so extra gurl lool, I actually can practice my English with your vlogs and also a little bite of German that's my fav lenguage i'm rlly begginer with it but is so grateful listen to u speaking. I love your humor, glĂŒck auf!

I really enjoy Pons dictionary for various uses of words and idiomatic expressions.
"Podcast and chores" is the best †or podcast while walking đ¶ââđ§
soooo relaxing!! itâs crazy hahaha
Iâd recommend Dogs of Berlin if you are into criminal stuff. One of the first shows i watched in German and honestly i loved it!
on my list!
17:53 WAAAAATCH IT. Itâs so good and the ending perfectly matches the beginning.
tooooo trippyyy.... i'm still watching it!
Btw your german is so good if i didnât know that your a non-nativ speaker i wouldnât actually hear a difference. Your motivating me to keep on going with learning Spanish so thank you very much for your videos
Glad to see more people recommending Clozemaster!
as it should be!! great minds think alike đđ
I've recently been binging your videos - you seem like a really sweet person and you're very encouraging when it comes to language learning. Just a note, at 2:11 Shakespeare actually isn't Old English, it's Early Modern English! Old English is *very* different from modern English. I don't know why it bothers me, I just had to get that out there đđ
thank you!! that means a lot. and yes lolol iâm very aware, in the process of making this video i watched it approximately 30 times and you kind of pick up on the things you say when youâre just trying to talk for a video. Iâm a native speaker so i kno
sometimes i have to repeat stuff 3-4x before what iâm trying to say comes out correctly, so itâs just kinda frustrating when thatâs the comment people leave on your video haha
Everything you said Anki resonates with my whole being.
i love your vlogs.
đ„ș thank you!
glad to see Elysse's back

Your German Sounds 98% perfect. Thatâs insane!!!!đđđđ
Two movies that I always recommend are "Fack Ju Göhte" and "TĂŒrkisch fĂŒr AnfĂ€nger". They are comedy and stories about two cultures or classes learing to interact with each other. It shows typical Stereotypes in a humor way. These are classic German teenie movies :)
Excelente video y saludos desde Ecuador! đȘđšâđ
saludos querido!!â
Please make another âFrom the bottom of my bunkâ episode. I love those. You could try making it in German. Greetings from Germany:)âșïž
awww i havenât made one of those in years. iâll think about it! thanks for sticking around for so long!
New books, very pretty!!!! I do have new books I bought before the internet that I'll get around to one day...:and keep adding more decade after decade. I think the smell makes you feel clever or something.
definitely bro
What, you even reply to comments from a six month old video! I'm learning Spanish and my son is learning German, so I've been watching a lot of the language learning videos online, and yours pop up a lot.
You should def play around with Anki. In my expereince, there isn't really any math to it. I see videos about playing with the settings but you 0% have to do that. I would say Anki excels at customization. You can do a lot of cool stuff with Anki. My cards have a lot of audio and gifs and different colors. Once you get into it almost feels like crafting. I used the Fluent Forever book and Anki to learn German, and it was the really fun. Figuring out how to use Anki to simultaneously learn grammar, pronunciation, spelling, and vocab was the trick of it. Don't sleep on it. But I did try Clozemaster based on your recommendation and really dug it.
Also Weissensee is my favorite German TV show. A drama set in the DDR which mostly feels like a prestige TV show, but occasionally deliciously veers into soap opera territory.
Anki messes with me too. over and over I try and I hate it. DARK was so so DARK, I couldn't take it. Well done, yeah but pessimistic as hell. Now 1899 the new show by the same folks is AMAZING!
Dark und WhoamI are both soooo good.
An Columbus Tag!!
Ich glaube an dich! Weiter so :)
Welcome back
Thanks
Fantastic to see you back, Elysse! You were very much missed! I just began French ( with Alliance Francaise via Zoom; 2 hrs/week) and wondered if you might have any tips on how to best supplement my (paltry) classes. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Merci! Secondly, many months back, I recall you mentioning a way to shoot some $ your way (some "buy a coffee" thing, if I recall correctly). More to the point, how can I send you some $ exactly, given your longstanding, altruistic linguistic help? Thirdly, German-language movies: I just saw "Land of Mine". Excellent! A dour topic, but historically quite accurate. It's a movie that's not "fun" to see but important to see. Hinweis: Keep booze or narcotics at the ready. Again, wonderful to see you and to know that things are well on your end, Elysse. GrĂŒĂ aus Nord Kalifornien!
Hello Raymond! iâm not sure how Alliance Francaise goes, but if it doesnât involve a lot of speaking, make sure you take private lessons (italki, preply, etc are good options) to make sure youâre exercising the course material enough. speaking will make it stick!
and as for a $ tip, i leave my Ko-fi (thatâs the coffee thing) in the video description! if you look at the description under the video youâll find it there. any help is appreciated, thanks so much!! itâs hard for a college girl out here đ
And iâll put land of mine on my list! thank u so much for watching my videos!
Better late than never!!

Iâve pretty much explained all of them, I really donât use that many websites/apps đ look at my other German vids for reference! and iâll make sure to do that hahaha Dark is crazy
As a native German speaker I don't really know why I'm watching this - but I guess I am intrigued by your accent, it's barely there! Amazing đ€©

you have to watch ,,tĂŒrkisch fĂŒr AnfĂ€nger''. Its basically a a german woman who got together with a turkish man and they are living together now but like the children don't really get along and its like a suuuppper funny series. Hey, I was wondering if you actually study all your languages at uni or if you do that additionally to your uni classes?
I have a minor in Spanish at my uni (so I still mostly learned it myself) but thatâs it! Itâs pure hobby and self-study.
@@elyssespeaks wow that's really impressive :) I just started learning swedish next to studying English at uni (I'm German) and I think it can be quite tough to make time for a whole new language! But I guess if the motivation is there and you love learning languages it all works out :)
I was in fact since here since 2019 đ
A slay,,,
I made the grave mistake of stopping for *months* and I'm a beginner (meaning, I could be B2 by now, but my class has kept us at A1-A2 for 3 years and we missed at least one full semester... *cries in random French Public University* ). I have an exam today ^^' bye bye to my 16/20 (like a 2 in Germany? maybe 2-). Wish me luck at best.
German shows that are dope af: Tribes of Europa (Emilio Sakarya thooo đ), Billion Dollar Code, Babylon Berlin, How to Sell Drugs Online, Dark⊠thereâs a ton of really good German shows out rn!
Oh, I really liked Biohackers too! And I watched Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer in German, if you like anime đ€·đœââïž
Sind sie nur in Deutschland verfĂŒgbar?
Totally agree with you. Did you watch Kitz? It's a new one, but I heard a lot of good reviews.
I havenât finished watching the video but I had to write this down before I forgot đ will you be making a video about your project on IG where youâve been posting smth in German and noting down the feedback you get?
sure will!
Oh,yes! I loved it ! Surprisingly, we have it on Russian Netflix (mit deutsche Untertiteln ) đ

We don't use the correct forms when using indirect discourse in German. Even newspapers, like the Tagesschau, get it wrong which is so annoying. But yeah, I think we have collectively given up on that grammar
