    Each photo & video described.
These videos are meant to be educational and funny, so if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!
0:00 Intro - Click show more under the video to read more.
0:05 Dodge Caliber. Hopefully, the customer either gets the rear sub-frame and other parts replaced or sends the car to the scrap yard. Looks like they have been driving around like this for a while.
0:16 Easy fix! Floormat on the accelerator pedal. Usually happens after the customer cleans out their car and reinstals the floor mats.
0:30 Not the first time we've seen a customer come in for a flat tire and not mention it. Scary that they didn't mention this to the shop and service advisor.
0:43 A cotter pin was installed before it left.
0:51 It even says capless fuel filler on the fuel filler neck. The service advisor should have caught this one!
1:01 The audio control module needed an update and master reset. The technician said that fixed the issue.
1:13 Let us know what you think this might have been. The technician said he'd never seen anything like this in 20 years and thought it looked like ants. He's unsure why the customer wouldn't want this cleaned out and the air filter replaced as they are most likely going to have more issues in the future.
1:23 A good reason to double-check and look underneath any vehicle you buy to make sure it's AWD or 4WD, etc. I also think it's the 5th letter in the VIN that can indicate if a vehicle is AWD or not.
1:31 Customer installed. At least it was an easy fix!
1:41 It was brought in for a service.
1:51 Thermostat installed backwards on this Subaru.
2:06 Hopefully the customer actually gets the frame fixed. The shop still installed new tires. You can also see that the exhaust is rusted out.
2:11 "He kept asking us if it was repairable, I think he didn't really fully grasp how terrible the state of his car was. We had to keep telling him it was illegal to drive a car like that here but he insisted on driving away with it. We pulled the starter relay after parking the vehicle outside and refusing to work on it (we didn't charge him a dime) and we called the police. The police checked our videos and photos of the car, and talked to the owner.
    They gave him two options:
    - get it towed to a scrapyard right away - get it towed to a DMV approved inspection center and submit it for a provincial inspection, which it will fail and they'll strike the VIN from the registrar. Then the vehicle would have to be towed to the scrapyard anyway.
He called a local scrapyard and got the vehicle towed away. We didn't charge him anything, we just prevented him from driving a deathtrap and potentially hurting himself and others. In Québec, we have a national taxpayer-funded healthcare system which means if he ends up maiming someone with his car, every taxpayer will have to pay for the medical bills, and our provincial government-owned road insurance policy which covers every citizen in case they get hurt in a road accident would pay an indemnity for him and his victims for the rest of their lives, thereby increasing the yearly driver's licence renewal cost of every citizen who owns a driver's licence in the province."
2:34 Hopefully the customer gets the wheel bearing replaced.
2:38 Hopefully they didn't try to drive for long like this. Could be an expensive repair for the brake system. The coolant system will most likely just need to be flushed or drained.
2:44 Another shop or the customer. Whoever did the work should not be trying to fix cars.
2:55 A customer went the wrong way after leaving the dealership.
    3:02 Outro. Thanks for watching!

I have a fun story about a car repair (Note: The problem will just be 'the radiator', as I forget *exactly* what it was, but it was an quick, easy, & cheap fix):
When I was 4 years old (I'm 39 now. Be 40 come April), my mother was driving to New Hampshire, and white smoke started coming from under the hood, and overheat warnings came on.
Mom pulls over, pops the hood, and already knows what the problem is (She believed in knowing her car inside & out).
Tow truck comes, sees this single mother with a 4 year old son and a 7 year old daughter, and starts blabbering nonsense and playing up how screwed her car is.
Mom (Calmly): It's the radiator. I know what white smoke means.
    Towtruck: Well, it could be-
    Mom: It's the radiator.
Towtruck (Nonplussed): We'll see what the garage says.
We get it towed to the nearby garage, and the mechanic takes it in and 'looks it over' while mom is up front making calls to friends. Comes back with a laundry list of 'problems' that would have cost more than $7,000 to fix. In 1988.
Mom (Still calm): It's the radiator. I had the car looked at not a month back. (Note: A friend of mom's owned a garage back then, and would do checkups at reasonable prices. He took pride in his work, and would *never* skimp on work. He actually paid mom the repair fee when he learned what happened, as it was something he missed during his inspection. She did not mention this man to the mechanic)
Mechanic: Well, they did a bad job! Probably lazy, eh? So many garages scam people! But if you'd sign the work order-
Mom (Now using the 'I know you're lying, and I will give you this *one* chance to be honest' tone): I know what the problem is. And all I will pay for is the radiator. How about we inspect the car together?
Mechanic: You can't be in the garage! It's dangerous! People running around, tools and cars everywhere! It's a liability issue!
Mom: Then you can either fix the real problem, and *I'll* inspect the car afterwards, or you can tow it to in Greenfield.
They fixed the real issue, and mom had the car inspected by her friend again a few days later. Turned out; They had created 99% of the problems they listed (Surprise, surprise! The 1% is the real issue) and never fixed them, so mom had her friend fix the issues, and she sent the New Hampshire garage the bill, along with a letter from my mother that said, and I'm paraphrasing:
I know you caused every issue listed on this enclosed repair order in order to cheat me. Also enclosed is the inspection from less than 25 days prior, which found none of these issues. You can either pay, or I can take you to court for vandalizing my car.
From how I heard the story told; They fought at first, but settled when mom lawyered up. Their whole attitude, from what I can vaguely remember looking back now, was 'Woman stupid. Woman can't know cars! Cars are for *men*!'
And they picked the wrong woman to try that BS on. 😂

Sadly, this is part of the reason some of these people "declined repairs" on this channel. There are some many shady mechanics that people's knee jerk reaction when told of problems they didn't know about/don't understand is that the mechanic is lying! I am so blessed that my best friend is a mechanic. 26 years and 370,000 miles later, my Civic is still running in good shape thanks to his knowledge and honesty (and he's not just honest with me as a friend, he is honest with ALL his clients!)

Good for her. I haven't had anyone try to scam me THAT bad for being female, but I have (when it was still reasonably safely driveable) driven away when I didn't like the answer (from a shop that was conveniently close, and drove immediately to a shop I trust). My brother had a car crap out on a trip 400 km from home, got towed to a local shop and they told him his timing belt went and took out his engine, so he had it towed back home to our regular mechanic and had the timing belt replaced for a hundred bucks (somehow it had slipped a notch or two so the engine wouldn't run but it also wasn't enough to cause interference between the pistons and valves like the first garage claimed. And I've had dealerships quote me a thousand bucks more for a repair that my mechanic got done for a couple hundred. I'm just lucky I know my way around cars and will make them explain everything. And I insist on being allowed in the shop to see what they're talking about.

had something that could have ended similarly happen to me and my dad except the mechanic let us into the shop to show us what the issue was. It was that somehow a part of tubing in the cooling system got dislodged and fell out from an accident that happened earlier that day or the night before -it was a noticeable gap-, the fact we had had to fill the system up already due to this, and the car overheated meant the engine was gone -drove at least 200 miles with this issue cross-country road trip. Given it was a small town shop and we were about a hundred from miles home we got picked up by mom the next day and it all worked out dad still drives the same car 15 years later. The mechanic was surprised that the tubing came out as that is not something he had seen before.

That one with the missing castle nut and cotter pin reminds me of the one time I let a garage replace the ball joints on my truck. I was working at the time and couldn't get to it before having to help my brother move home after college. They replaced them all right, but didn't put cotter pins in place. My pop picked the truck up from the shop and felt something wrong. Both of the nuts on the side they replaced had backed off. He tightened the nuts again and stuck a nail in to keep them in place. I took the truck BACK to the shop and told them to put the pins in. They did, but the shop "manager" said that cotters pins were not necessary.
I never had that place touch my '65 Ranchero again.

That was funny when you said where that person lives has strict rules. Up here in Canada, we don't consider them strict, just common sense. It is illegal to drive a vehicle that is unfit for the road and shops are required to report a driver, or can even refuse to give the car back to a customer who wants to drive the car away. There was a lady here in my city a few years ago that got into a major accident and she was charged with negligence causing death because she did not maintain her brakes. Just because you can drive a piece of junk doesn't mean you should drive it. There are other people on the road.

It was a while back, but the Department of Transport that runs roadside inspections in Queensland was at one stage ordering cars that were unfit to drive to be scrapped on the spot and crushed into a cube of metal. I don't know if they're still doing that but it took a lot of bad cars off the road. Authorities everywhere should be looking into the feasibility of doing this in their own area. It would certainly send a message to people running unsafe vehicles on the roads.

where iam from it is like that, if the shop diagnoses a fault that makes the car not roadworthy/dangerous, then they are not allowed to let the car leave other then on a flatbed. if it is severe enough, then all your plaques wich indentifies the car as streetlegal get scraped, then you have to tow it away and have to get it inspected by the cops within a certain timeframe.

My vehicle is just plain old and high mileage, but it gets regular maintenance; worn interior, no more wheel covers, and paint, but safe to drive for me and my fellow motorist.
