Please only send campaigns on the verge of defeat or battles you can't win. Auto resolve wins won't be accepted. Modded campaigns are not currently accepted. I just want to reiterate how much I appreciate the reading of the emails before going into the disaster battles. The extra information and the humanizing effect that actually hearing these people's problems in their own words doesn't seem big, but speaking only for myself, it has been.
Really enjoyed this battle too, hard fought. I was really rooting for that one unit on the wall, RIP to a bunch of heroes.

Purple Sun moves in one random direction while firestorm keeps changing direction randomly so it's a lot easier to get more kills with the latter.
So purple sun is basically like a wind spell now?

The problem with purple sun is it moves so fast and doesn’t last very long. Firestorm last forever and moves very slowly, meaning units are stuck in its area longer.
@@136itiFirestorms rework is excellent I feel. The first time I used it I thought it had been turned into a stationary vortex spell like pit of shades. It was moving _so_ slowly and doubled back on itself a few times that I clipped the cast and replayed it just to make sure it was moving.
It was absolutely apocalyptic for the enemy army, one of those incredible 500+ units killed casts. I really feel like it's much easier to do absurd damage with firestorm now.
This is probably the best defensible map in the entire game. The main point you need to control is actually defendable and the towers are in spots where they have clear line of sight on the attacker. Wish more maps were like this

Legend, idea for a video - pick out any battle where you think very hard difficulcy makes AI derp and leave openings for you to win, win it and then load it back up and set to normal difficulty and we can see if it behaves the same or tactics change. I personally would be interested to watch differences in a confined test enviroment commented on by you.

Yeah there's a bunch of choppy frames in this. I would guess it's an issue with legends screen recorder

Loved seeing the decision making process in the beginning, and the honesty of admitting you might have to wait for them to make a bad move on their own instead of forcing it.

Is it me or are Legend's videos lagging a lot as of late? Is that a TW thing, or maybe a problem with youtube?
In all the settlement maps of the game, this one is the easiest by far to defend if you do like legend did here. I already won vs 4 armies from decisive defeat to pyrrhic or close win with ease just by using the ramp like legend did. It feels like it’s the only settlement map (including fortress or mountain paths ones) who has been actually made correctly/competently to be advantageous for the defender. Usually there are so many flaws, you know the devs didn’t want to make it according to the books too easy to defend for the player (cuz AI wouldn’t be able to anyway). Similar fortified cities or citadels would never be built like that. I guess we can be thankful there is this exception at least. But the maps, the access paths, or where towers are located (and to which cap points they are attached) are usually terribly implemented in wh3. I assume the map designers just made visually pleasant towns from their pov, then added some defences where possible, instead of building the general ambience and the according textures upon a valuable defensive fortress or fortified city plan. It’s a shame really, siege battles could have been a lot more fun (tactically speaking) and also viewed as a much bigger asset for the player to defend his empire if the devs have been more familiar with medieval and renaissance siege warfare. But I guess that’s too late 🤷🏼
At least this map is a valuable asset to defend your empire in wh3…
GG legend btw, it wasn’t that tough, but am not surprised on this map, I have seen atrocious odds completely negated by this excellent defensive map design.

@@mocod_2402 and? Didn’t say it doesn’t apply to wh1 or 2, sooo…? The reason I don’t mention wh1or2 is it’s outdated now, everyone focus on wh3 gameplay, but obviously the fact that this map was already and also the only well designed defensive map in wh1&2 is also true.

I do agree on the tier list, but there was no duelling in this video. What he did to Karl Franz is not duelling, duelling is one on one fights, it doesn’t count if you’re drowning the enemy in trash and keep stabbing them in the ass
@@scarletcroc3821 I asked Legend to do a tier list for melee lords and heroes based on how strong they are against other single entities like other lords and heroes. He didn't reply but here he says that Grom won't duel Franz very well. Hence my comment.
Dueling has a lot of variables unless you are just talking about point, click, and wait.

@@thomasconti3536 that is more or less what duelling (far as I know at least) if you’re constantly pulling out of the fight and charging the lord/hero in the back while they’re distracted by trash then you’re not duelling, then you’re just doing damage

28:28 - Personally I'd have saved the winds you used on those last two purple suns to start damaging the Steam Tank with Spirit Drain instead since it made up a lot of their remaining balance of power and you *have* to kill it because its unbreakable.
Those empire fort battles are the best settlement in the game to defend. Good stuff

I am wondering lately the framerate of the game seems to get way worse is something happening there? Sadly it makes the videos much harder to watch for me as I get headaches by the lagging image.
He has an old-ass computer and he doesn't upgrade for some reason. Unless I remember it wrong he stated in one of his livestreams that he still uses a 1080 card.

@@WarXxXMaster I would assume that if he still has a 1080 the rest of his rig is of similar age, and that's what's causing game issues with framerate and extremely slow end turns.

Purple Sun, for as sporadic as it moves, needs to last longer. Like Firestorm of old it needs more time to veer back into a crowd after it leaves it.
A few cauldron upgrades would have made this battle mad easy

Grom buffs Goblins to a ridiculous degree. Those goblins had 72 armor, 49 MA and 40 MD, with 80 leadership. The only shame is their Weapon Strength is pretty low.

hey legend, as a player who has learned a ton from you, I rarely find myself in these helms deep siege defenses. is there an easy way the community could get access to some of these save files, with the owners permission? I would love to try to win a nasty siege like this, even tho u already did it. idk sorry if reading this wasted ur time.
I've always been a big fan of Purple Sun, but they've nerfed it to the ground over time
I will always remember the first time I encountered it, game 1, dwarfs fighting against Azhag the Slaughterer
I wasn't looking and suddenly I see my hammerers got absolutely wrecked (like got from full health to 20 units alive), nobody was shooting them, they just took a purple sun in the face
The damage output has been decreased by so much it's almost useless now, which is very sad

this fort is so so easy to play as a defender, you just have to hold 3 locations while your ranged units and artillery destroy the enemy

the video lag is probably caused by use of the same HDD for the game and video saving. HDD just cant keep up with saving and reading. you can probably fix that with an SSD or useing 2 HDD, one for the game and another for saving the video.
I never liked how a lot of the legendary lords buff early game units rather than late game units.

At 23:00, just as Legend says the hammer of the witches need to be dealt with, they get wiped out. How does that happen??
yeah wtf? They're still alive at the end of battle. So I wonder if it was just a visual bug? Instead of their health it was their leadership that collapsed and they withdrew?
No mattet how many troops Karl throws at Grom, all he's doing is feeding Grom and his army.
the amount of luck that legend with these battles has :D holy christ, if the ai would act smarter some of these wins weren´t able :D

Edit: Spirit leech is SS tier imo. Legend was right shuda just used that, or even both leech and blight on karl franz (stagger them for passive reserve regen). Honestly the death vortex is utter garbage, a massive clump is required for it to be actually good. Bjuna is not terribad when there r no clumps, it is surprisingly good at deleting a damaged unit (like a half hp pesky missile unit, where no entities died yet).
Legend, my man. I really think it's time for you to upgrade your computer. The choppy videos is starting to really take away from the enjoyment of the videos.
If you're short on cash just make a livestream with the goal of raising funds for a new computer. I don't think people would mind chipping in a few bucks to get daily videos that ain't a slide show.

I wonder if Grom really has attack while moving on wh3. I tried the same scenario on wh2 and wh3 on custom battle, and he gets no attack animation off (so no damages, no kills) on wh3 while it's clearly working on wh2.
the randomnese of the vortex spell is so anoyying not even in multiplayer are used that mutchm the flamestorm one and pit of shade are the only good ones

not only that he was not doing any subestancial damage on greenskins and not to meation how easy empire units routed.
you know why i know?? because if it was on very hard battle difficulty, the game wouldn't allow you to, slow down time.
i know it not his fault, but at least he could have said something, instead of faking it.
