I learned some things I hadn't really taken note of before...like the "pinch, pull, pin" idea with the straps, and the button-up bottom box (yah, I know...alliteration all around LOL). I usually make bags for gifts instead of using wrapping paper, which just gets thrown away. I think these are my favorites so far, other than the lined ones I make for grocery shopping.
Getting ready to make my daughter a bag for a gift I got her. Knew exactly who to go to for a refresher. Thanks Tracy, love your tutorials.

I never thought of using the burrito method for a bag. I will definitely try this. I box my corners in a similar way, but I never cut the points off until after I have sewn the seam across..just a personal preference. Great job Tracy!

I would put a little snip for the straps. I learned this from working at a garment factory (made dresses).

Adding if you want to press outside edge seams with a nice edge first press the seam flat, then fold and press. Just roll the bag or whatever back a bit to press flat. Not sure where I learned that but I too kept doing that little rolly rolly thing with fingers to try to get the seam pulled al the way out to edge.

Very well done and instructed...clear and concise! Q: Could one use the heavier cotton canvas fabric, to construct these bags for more durability/carrying heavier items? Or would the fabric be too thick for the burrito rollup method/not being able to inside out the burrito?

Great tutorial! My only questions is what would you recommend for fabric and strap dimensions to make a larger bag that could be used for groceries?
*_Jodi- I would measure a bag that I wanted to copy(one you might have on hand) so that way you get exactly what you like.✅_*
You could also purchase/use soft fabric strapping... a bit more costly, but is softer on the hands, when using as a grocery bag...
I now know what to do with all of these fat quarters.

Just double layer the bottom piece, Wong sides together and make the bag the same way.
Good information, but I was getting impatient, wishing it moved along more quickly and didn't repeat so much, and if you find yourself getting impatient, speed it up to 1.25 and it's WONDERFUL

To place the straps, measure 2" from each side of the creases and put the inside edge of the strap there. That way, there's no guessing.

Hello -If you can help. I Metal Detect and I carry my scoop, garden knife and other hand tools, besides pockets inside, my finds . In the long cross-over the shoulder (name brand) bag. Now from my knife going in and out during my adventutes. Starting to weaken the threads at the bottom. I want to make my own, with a stronger bottom and inside pockets and cross over the shoulder straps .. have you or will you demonstrate such a bag ! ? Thank you!!!
Oh wow. That’s a task indeed. Sounds like a good design. You could always take the bag you have already and unpick and make a pattern of it? That’s probably your best way. ✅
