    I adopted my little (big, very big) guy without knowing he is a Norwegian. He's beautiful. He's the sweetest cat I've ever known. He's everything the positives described and none of the bad behavioral parts. He's a little angel. He is extremely playful, brings me his toys when he wants to play, let's me know when we should go outside to play and when he just wants attention. He sleeps like a cuddled up baby in my arms at night. He trills to communicate and I hope his voice never changes. I love him so much. He does have a slight heart murmur, but I don't know if it's going to cause major issues. He is a very happy boy.

      Same. He was advertised as a Maine Coon cross. However, he doesn't have any of the Main Coon traits aside from. Long fur and size. We discovered he was a Norwegian Forest Cat from a youtube video that describes the difference between the two. 100% Norwegian Forest Cat. He doesn't have a main, he is a perfect ball of fluff.

    Also to mention is their toe tuffs!! They have extra fur that grows between the pads of their paws just like sand cats and main coons. I found a NFC and he’s my best friend :) they also don’t shed as much as other cats even who have shorter fur. My lil dude has also been a great mother figure to a kitty I found recently who was so little she couldn’t 1 or 2 by herself and he would help her. Best cat I’ve ever had.

    All of what you said is spot on. I’ve had cats all my life, and until Puss Puss came into my life I’d not known of Wegies. I can honestly say that they are truly wonderful and fabulous company. Puss Puss is not my pet, she is my best friend. The both of us live together in a remote part of New Zealand, where she has her own forest to enjoy. As for the two of us going for walks, yes often. One of her most endearing habits, is for her to come racing up from behind, then hurtle up a tree. Her rapid approach, always sounds like a small horse 😂. I’ve never been happier, moreover that I’ll never be able to replace her. Ohh and lastly, I need to brush her at least three times a day, but that’s not a chore as it is one of her favourite things and It’s the least I can do for her ♥️

    • @Real_MisterSir
      @Real_MisterSir Před rokem

      they absolutely love the outdoors and roaming on their own. Back when I lived at my parents place we used to have Norwegian forest cats and they'd spend half the day outside in our yard or across in the nearby forest, socializing with other cats and simply just exploring. They're very curious and will play with pretty much anything they come across. They can also be very dosile and chill, the important part is just that they have room and time to let out their energy when they need to, then they will be calm and chill with you on a couch for hours.
      And yea they don't mind the wet and cold too much, live in Denmark and our cats would frequently jump in and out in rain and snow. Usually they'd prefer staying indoors during rainy weather but that was more just a comfort thing than actively taking a dislike to water in general.
      Also their large furry tails help dust off furniture as they walk around :D

    Regarding the large house, I think these cats will eventually get bored with anything. They need a lot of social interactions, so if you spend time with them it shouldn't be a problem. But still think about how to catify your home and definitely take them for walks!

    My Wegi is 3 legged, missing a rear foot, unknown origin as she is a rescue. Very affectionate towards me, but runs from everyone else.
    She loves the outdoors rain, shine, wind or snow. Loves playing outside, she comes when called from under sheds, on porches, curled up on a deck chair, she appears happy and secure with the care I give her, and is a nibler all day long. She resembles the cat in the picture. I feel lucky to have found her.

    My roommate brought home a small Weegie kitten after he almost accidentally ran over it as it was lying in the road starving and cold. He nursed it back to health and we made predictions on the breed. I had told him it looks like a Norwegian Forest Cat based on the fact other friends of mine have had them in the past. He thought it was a Maine Coon. Lo and behold, it was a Weegie. Definitely an affectionate cat, but he can be quite the troublemaker. I know my cat isn't always a big fan of him since she's an older cat and she doesn't want to play with him, but all 25 pounds of him really enjoys playing. I definitely wouldn't recommend a Weegie for someone who wants a lower maintenance cat. You have to either keep them occupied or keep an eye on them. Otherwise though, they do make great companions.

  • @CSIPiper
    @CSIPiper Před rokem +8

    When my Wegi got up there in years I worried about him being outdoors due to local predator animals. I started keeping him inside, he then seemed to get depressed and his health began declining rapidly. He passed away at the ripe age of 23. Wegis MUST have outdoor time if their indoor space is not large and stimulating with space for exercise and climbing. Which would be nearly impossible for the average person.

    We got a cat from the local Shelter a few months ago. They called him a mixed breed (he was a stray when he was found), but I'm thinking he is a large part a Norwegian Forest Cat. He is mostly white with some small black spots on his back and the top of his head, and his tail is mostly black with a white tip. I found a picture on Google of a black and white Norwegian Forest Cat that looks nearly identical to him. He is a big cat, with big paws, really fluffy (but his fur is really silky and soft). The temperament fits him perfectly too. I'm thinking of getting a DNA test for him to see what breed/s he is.

    I own a 3 month old norwegian, and I have to say in this case he was very lucky to have been adopted on to a home with 2 other cats, because this cat absolutely craves companionship.
    When we brought him home we didn't introduce him to our other cats right away because we were afraid how they might react, so we wanted to let him explore the environment, well that backfired as he got depressed and wouldn't eat or get out of his bed.
    It wasn't until we let him openly be with our other cats that he perked up and started eating and playing.
    Can't help but wondering what would've happended if he had gone to a house with no cats...

They are the smartest cat, mine has learned some tricks and learned to respect when a Human sleeps/lays down (doesnt make a sound, doesnt bother you, tries to sleep aswell) & incredibly active/energetic the entire time they are AWAKE and you are on your FEET, cat will follow you around the house 24-7 if he/she is a lone indoor cat and isnt tired. I would also say not to worry much about food when it comes to Males, they are HUGE (Males can go up to like 25+ lbs, mine is 28 lbs) and ENERGETIC, just give it the best food, i leave dryfood bowl always filled (NFC "Royal Canin"), he learned his diet, when/how much to eat by himself with time & give him wet food once a day, he is in super health, no fat.... burnes calories like a mad man.... I have a huge balcony that i netted, a custom cat tree i built from a real tree/with branches both inside and out in the balcony for it to climb & chill.... and have made some shelves along the walls for it to climb even more / use the space, never bored! He sleeps with me always.

    It is such a strange thing with these cats, when you say they are not pushy that is meant really literally. I have had three and the one I have now will be in the same room as me, always. In fact he hates when I go to the kitchen to cook and will tell me so, loudly, because he doesn't feel like he fits in there (it is long and narrow). He is never on me or even next to me necessarily, just in the same room, on the char or the floor and if I move to another room he goes there, rarely next to me, just close by. I can pick him up and place him next to me and he will stay there for maybe up to an hour and then he will migrate back to a space in the room nearby.

    I've owned several NFC's over 17 years and they have no negative points. The hereditary disease HCM can occur in all cats, of all breeds, even ordinary house cats. NFC's are not hyper active (like Abessinians f.e.).The allergy negative applies to all cats, especially short haired cats. The NFC does not need a big house, he needs a big cat tree. The only thing to take into account is that it is not good for the NFC to be the only pet - he will languish if there is not an animal friend in the house (other cat or dog). The Norwegian Forest Cat is the best breed in the world!!! Once you get acquainted to them, you will be hooked for life!

    My Norwegian is a mixed breed of some kind which means she's only a NFC in looks. She's:
    - Clingy/Demanding
    - Not very smart
    - Very lazy
    - And afraid of the outdoors/strangers/other animals
    So, her personality isn't really there, but I know she is one because of her appearance, what with the long, fluffy coat, and specific face of a Norwegian Forest Cat. We adopted her from a shelter as a kitten here in the US, so I'm guessing her mother was a stray.

      @@Tulin___ that's what I thought. My white calico's sister was a Calabby, but a broken calico tabby, she only had those markings on the top of her head, kind of like a little hat, a heart shaped mark on her side, and her tail. The rest of her was all white. Oh, and she had little markings on her toe beans. R.I.P PRECIOUS. 😔🐈🐈‍⬛🐱💔

    I have owned only NFC's my entire life (so has my relatives, family) & must say through my experience that MALE's were generally better than FEMALES especially when castrated.... they become so incredibly relaxed, instinctfully more social, affectionate, patient towards strangers/children and will rarely hiss (never ever heard my Male hiss in my life) or try bite / throw paw at other humans (unless you force it by way of playing with it with your bare hands)..... ALL Females ive found to be much more afraid, careful & agressive, hissing (and biting / throwing paws), they are more moody/unpredictable/emotional, some more some less....

    Im trying to find a good Norwegian Forest cat breeder I mean GOOD...vaccines deworming microchips health testing testing for breed related disease pedigreed ancestry contracts everything
    My dad is wanting a female Norwegian Forest cat as a travel companion/ESA as he lives out on the road and travels often.
    He's worked with animals for many years, horses, dogs, cats and used to be a big contributor to the hedgehog rescue community as well
    He's fully prepared to invest time and resources into this, she will be a lifelong companion for him
    Location does not matter as long as it's within the 48 contiguous states
