    I eat my words. Tamiya had provided a center gear diff option for the XV-02

    I used pictures by rcscrapyard.com and tamiyausa.com found on google images
    I forgot to mention that I think this will require a low profile servo for steering

    A quick explanation of what caster does:
    When a car goes over a bump, the wheels move up and down, obviously; when the car is going straight, you want the wheels to stay vertical as they go over the bump for maximum traction. But when you steer a moving car, it leans to the outside of the corner, and if the suspension keeps the wheels aligned with the chassis, that means the wheels will _also_ lean to the outside of the corner, reducing traction. Caster forces the front wheels to be tilted towards the inside of the corner when steering, which counteracts the outside-tilting effect caused by the chassis leaning.

    I am going to be all over this. Probably going to drop a Evo body shell on this one. I think it will be a unique handling chassis but whether it will feel as good as the XV-01 remains to be seen. Great video Rex

    Looks good and be interesting to see how these perform. I must say that I really enjoy the XV-01 handling with the weight up the front. I'm not into racing so the enjoyment is more important than quick lap times for me. Many thanks for an informative video 🙂

    A very interesting video, Rex! I like your thinking and I totally agree with your conclusions. With more weight focused in the centre, it should be more neutral handling, with the option to alter this with the front/rear gearing bias. It's going to be a blast to experiment with!

    Wonderful analytic skills you have, it shows you have an understanding and interest of car physics, but i seem to remember you told me that you raced once, so that doesn't surprise me.
    I think the chassis is very neutrally ballanced, very well designed, but one of my pet peeves with Tamiya are their grease filled differentials. I really hope they decided to equip this chassis with sealed differentials.

    First I like to thank you for the presentation and analysis Rex.
    I wasn't a fan of the XV-01 because of this exposed postition of the motor. I don't mind about driving performance. It's just my opininon that in the motor shouldn't been the first thing that takes an impact direct after the foam-bumper.
    So now I am interested in this new chassis. On the plus side I see:
    The motor is better protected inside the chassis. The kit has a complete set of ball bearings.
    My hopes:
    I hope that the battery door is still at the bottom of the car, for a change without taking the body off. A good soulution for changing the differentials without disassembling half of the car. Complete body-kits with all additinal parts and stickers. Searching everything separate is a nightmare in my dealer's online shop. Oh yes, cone diffs insead off ballers would be nice, too.
    I don't like they put hex-screws in it. I'm ruining them so often.
    I'll get a VX-02 for sure, but probably won't be the first.

  • @schuttrostig5729
    @schuttrostig5729 Před 2 lety +1

    What i dont like is the standup battery and servo, raising the cog. Tamiya has a habbit of mounting standup servos not solid enough, making them move left and right which is verry bad. From the picture i can not see if its solid, provides easy access to evrything and drives well. Also if we have a slipper clutch or diff or oneway option in the middle will change a lot. Super avante looks great, but slipping diffs, moving servo, virtually unchangeable motor and over 12 screws to access the rear drivetrain are not really competition-ready.

    I like the new design never liked the motor hanging out over the front concept it makes for a tail happy car...also the shaft drive it nice I never liked belts much more maintenance and adjustments needed all the time. I think the new XV-02 will be way better and drive faster through turns.

  • @pugs1377
    @pugs1377 Před 2 lety +3

    Nice! Any word on price? Should be a good ripper. I hope Traxxas brings the rally back out but with some updates to compete with better handling cars. I think your spot on with all the technical stuff but as I'm sure you have learned(like me) things that should and do apply to 1:1 cars don't always work. For the intended use tho it should be a lot of fun tail out racing with the rear diff over driven

  • @hendrahendra
    @hendrahendra Před 2 lety +2

    XV02 is a dissapointment, its just a more trick reverse TT02B. Think about it if a TT02B has rear steering and drives backwards its what XV02 is. The best thing about XV01 is the unique front engined handling of it, just like a real car. The reedeming feature about the 02 is the trick center differential and most likely comes with full ball bearings. 😂

Im not sure what is the best option for suspension, however I am using the Tamiya CVA suspenion for TL-01, and Ive left out the travel limiter they tell you to use inside the shock, I have found this setup has A LOT of travel 😁

  • @deusexaethera
    @deusexaethera Před 2 lety +2

    Eh...it looks like a competent chassis, but it doesn't have that signature Tamiya quirkiness I've come to expect, with the sole exception of the overdrive/underdrive diff gears. Anyone can take a normal touring-car chassis and lift the suspension to make a rally car; I know this for a fact because I've done it myself about ten times. My favorite rally conversion of all time is the HPI Nitro RS4 3 Evo+, not least because it makes cool engine noises. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for the XV-01 though, because it's so wildly reconfigurable, and QUIET. The belt drive is damn near silent, perfect for when I want to drive outside on the down-low without attracting every kid in the neighborhood. The XV-02 just looks...bland, honestly.

    • @rexrcs
      @rexrcs  Před 2 lety

      Hi Shawn! Thanks for stopping in to have a chat, this is far from a touring chassis lifted, but I’ll let you find that out on your own my friend. I think those who arent excited about it will change their tones once they see it running. The XV-01 was for pure feel and being different, it has no competition because its not a performance based chassis, I truly believe the XV-02 is focused around balance and handling, of course this is only going off my knowledge of vehicle dynamics, we’ll find out soon i hope 🙏
