Never been a Rafa fan. So I was rooting for Medvedev. Partly because I dont want Rafa to get ahead of Federer. But by the 4th set, I just didnt want Rafa to lose after coming back so courageously. And at the end it, I just have to admire this great athlete - his competitiveness, his unwavering spirit, and dedication to his sport. This is what sports is all about - breaking records and pushing each other to greatness. I am a fan now - never too late I guess. Great comment. Probably the best perspective on all this. Roger, Rafa, and Djoko made the last two decades the golden age of male tennis so far. It is fine to be a fan of anyone of them, but I never understood the need of some people to hate any of the three or try to diminish their accomplishments. It is hard to deny that Rafa will go down in history as one of the most resilient athletes. That mental strenght is legendary. At the rate things are going Djoko may end up with the most titles, but right now Rafa is on top. Time will tell.

Nobody has any idea how mental Nadal is... Rafa didn't want to get into Medvedev's game which is flat powerful shots, Nadal quite possibly let himself win the first 1set, for Medvedev to think I have to continue playing like this... Rafa wanted to win the 2nd set at half speed 50% and he couldn't, and in the 3rd set he was forced to play at 85%... THAT TACTICE OF GOING FROM LESS TO MORE leaves the opponent anxious and unbalances him mentally, I've noticed that that Novak is the same, he uses the same psychology (they are the only ones who do it) in general, EVERY player on the circuit ALWAYS PLAYS TO WIN 100%, ALWAYS that is a serious MISTAKE... Rafa and Novak lose the matches on purpose''without importance ´´like the masters 1000 against ascending players like medvedev, Berretini, Tsitsipas, Zverev so that you think´´I have the key to defeat Rafa and Novak, I must play like this´´, BUT Nadal and Djokovic in the Grands Slam only show their true LEVEL and the rivals end up confused thinking ''today I was not fine''

I can't help but feel Medvedev didn't thank the fans on purpose. Especially when he ended the speech with ... " Last but not the least ... (dramatic pause) ... I just wanted thank my team once again".
And honestly no one can blame him. I'm the biggest Rafa fan and I understand that Daniil feels really hard done by the crowd.
Best wishes to you Daniil. Stay strong.

That last part itself shows how low his thinking is. He did get support when he was winning too. He has a habit of focusing on negative and likes to be the victim like Novak. He is truly mini Novak, arrogant and hyped beyond his skills. Making faces and purposefully not thanking the crowd, just doesn’t allow to support him. Great player or not first need to be a better person. Rafa was also booed at French open at the age of 18, but did not resort to low level tactics. That’s why he is where he is.👍👍

I was in Chalon, France, in the spring of 2005, in my hotel room. On TV, they were showing the final of the Madrid Classic. Describing the experience of seeing the then-teenager Rafael Nadal for the first time as a revelation would be an understatement. It was more like a force of nature being unleashed. With a blazing, sleeveless, orange shirt, white shorts, flailing long hair, fist pumps, high leg kicks, and an astonishing combination of fire & flair, he was unlike anyone I had ever seen. Down 0-2, this remarkable 18-year old, won in five sets, to my utter disbelief. SEVENTEEN years later, Rafa, you've exceeded even your own, stratospheric standards, winning the 2022 AO in the same manner. Part soccer player, part prize fighter & owner of, potentially, the biggest heart I've ever seen in any athlete, you have elevated Tennis to unprecedented heights. Nadal is both a loveable man & player off & on court - personification of humility & hard core will power coupled with never say die spirit. It is rare in sport to come across such a player almost perfect both on & off court.
He had come so close on this court turf to win his second title yet fell off more than once in the past 13 years.
His conviction in himself & his die hard spirit of determination, effort & endurance had finally paid off & secured him his second title on this turf after a gape of whopping 13 years.

Rafa, I will never forget the first time I watched tennis in the television, it is not a very popular sport in the country I grew up with, you lose the match to someone I dont remember, but I remember how much I adored you from that very moment.
