- Jennifer Lopez IS "The Mother." And we ARE the film critics with a review of her Netflix action thriller. Lopez stars as a former military sniper-turned-mercenary who springs into action when her 12-year-old daughter gets kidnapped. Thankfully, she's got a particular set of skills to help her take out the bad guys. Directed by Niki Caro ("Whale Rider"), written by Misha Green, Andrea Berloff and Peter Craig. Co-starring Lucy Paez, Omari Hardwick, Joseph Fiennes, Gael Garcia Bernal and Paul Raci.

The Cell is still the coolest thing she’s done. I agree with Christy that she totally has a screen presence for serious stuff but rarely utilizes it.
Yes, The Cell!
Anaconda for me.
It's a laundry folding movie....background noise during mindless chores...I like it
I love that shirt Alonso!
No, you don’t. 🤥 🙃
I had a recommendation that said something like “if you like Fish Jelly, you will like this”- and I’m actually happy about my CZcams recommendations for once!
Nice! They are lovely guys. Thanks for joining us.
uhhhhh, I'd give it pass, in my mind, I'm still thinking "you want to tussle? we tussle" from Out of Sight 25 years ago
Gosh, she was electrifying in that.
Love Alonso's shirt tho...😏
Jennifer Lopez is giving 100% to this role in this movie with eyebrowsing writing that is 40%. She deserves better.
She is, and she does. Thanks Jane!
Yes, She does, but the Only thing they SEE is that She is HISPANIC, and Some People CANNOT STAND her having ANY Power in Hollywood.
Exactly, the surprises are only things that don´t make any sense! The film has a lot of false starts and endings, good actors are wasted and this is just one more of those "Netflix Movie: The Movie" they release every month.
There are a lot of these, it's true.
I loved this movie!😍❤
That's great!
I find action films to be Movies to Wash Dishes By. I don't know why I find action films soooooo boring, but I do. A short action sequence or two is bearable, but when action is the main attraction, I'm doing the dishes.
Hahah I usually listen to music when I do chores.
I thought this film was one long advertisement for Roger Ebert's Idiot Plot rule. The most shocking thing to me about this film is it was directed by Niki Caro.
She directed the live action Mulan. Is it that shocking?
Its similar to her movie Enough, running away, protection her daughter etc. The difference here is she had to learn how to shoot 😜
This gets a higher rating than Guardians 3? 🤨
except they already write simplistic dialogue for her.
I want to love this movie with every bone but it's so covidy and has that cheap Netflix b movie look to it. Plus the story just drags on & on...😢 I love jlo, excited to hear your review, gonna push play now,🎉
Good luck!
Covidy? 😆
I really liked her performance in Angel Eyes. The only romantic comedy she’s great in is The Wedding Planner lol
Monster in Law was a treasure.
I literally folded my laundry to this movie. LOL..
AND??
Who's Asking You??
Christy is bringing back '80s shoulder pads.
Ha, they're puffed sleeves.
100%
A movie with a strong buff female action character - why am i not suprised that they shit allover this movie. Go back and watch their reviews of Salt, Haywire, Pebbermint, The Interceptor to name a few and you can see a clear pattern.....
Oh JLo is great in this. But the movie itself isn't great.
This was one tedious piece of nonsense. And I'm sick of the media and J-Lo fans always finding excuse after excuse to prop her acting up, even though deep down they know she's basic at best. Lopez is just not a good actor. She has two speeds as an actor...wooden or histrionic and both are obnoxious. But she wasn't alone, the overall acting in The Mother was horrible. Plus the "mother's love" bit they tried to foist upon the audience, was laughable. J-Lo's "bada** female assassin actually treated her daughter mostly as an inconvenient annoyance. Oh and by the way, let's play "who's the father of her 12 year old daughter", because that storyline was just an afterthought. Is the father him over here or him over there trying to kill her?
And a supposed highly trained assassin, how was she not using some sort of birth control? Don't get me started there. Everyone, except Lopez thinking she's a female Jason Bourne with a franchise in the offing, looks eyerollingly bored, clunking along with some of the worst dialogue known to humankind in this exhausting hot mess of a film. I watched it because being an action/thriller, I thought...how bad could it be right? Well, I wasted time I can't get back, and if this wasn't on a streamer most of us already pay for, I'll bet you that hardly anyone would waste time and money going to see this film at a theater. But I can say with absolute certainty, The Mother is the end of the road for me with J-lo films. Enough already. I'm done
Yes, the fact that she gets involved with either of these guys, much less both, makes no sense.
Lmao watched this review while doing laundry and I’m like hmmm maybe rewatch the movie
Ha, did you miss important stuff?
You just like crap 😂
Watch the other The Mother film. Starring Daniel Craig. That one is provocative in a good way!
Or Bong Joon-ho's Mother.
The best mother film is Albert Brooks's film Mother. Debbie Reynolds always shines.
is there an outrage against the title?
In the matter action with beauty no other women or girls can beat Charlize Therone.
Angelina Jolie Monica Belluci 😂
I like J.Lo’s performance, but not the movie. It’s very trivial and doesn’t stand out in any way whatsoever.
Agree! Thanks for watching, TP.
So basically women are just as good as men at directing poorly written movies with shallow characters in recycled plots. Another win for diversity.
I suspect it's Sarah Palin's new favourite movie, after 2020's The Hunt.
A movie being written by the same gender shouldn't sway your criticism of it the mother still a dumb thing don't matter who wrote it or directed
I luv this JLO in action and trillers
She's definitely up for the challenge!
Me too!!
Never liked these Jlo bad*ss flicks. Enough (2002) is one of the worst in the "women fights back" sub-genre.
And watching a Niki Caro film after her silence on Xinjiang? Can't do it.
God, I wish she would just stop making movies. She's like the Rock: You always know what to expect, and at best, the film is mediocre, yet people keep forking over their money.
Sometimes she's great! She's always got that star quality that makes you want to watch her. But her film choices have been questionable since Hustlers.
NO, it's NOT, She did a Great JOB here.
@@BreakfastAllDay NO, this is a GREAT MOVIE.
@@12567NoYouCannot Wow, your frequent capitalization really makes a compelling case for this movie's merits.
I saw the movie last week. Very generic movie. Protecting the own child as a killer, agent or whatever, we have been seeing lately a lot. Ofc all men are dumb. E.g. in the mid the one villain had the great chance to kill her, and ofc he went for some sexual shit instead of just killing her. It keeps unclear why they kidnapped the daughter in the first place. To kill her? No, they could do this very quickly. To lure the mother and kill her? No, also they were numerous possibilities, see above. We have a little bit of Leon, the professional. Then ofc the daughter drove back to her mother, despite she still hates her, and get catched. How many times we have seen this? The action scenes were not very elaborated. Clearly not a good movie, a 4/10 seems justified, maybe because I expected worse, tbh. But at least I made it to the end.
Nope, I’ll pass.
thanks.
Probably a good call.
This movie is whack, every movie now is trying to be John Wick! Storyline poor, action sequences terrible (too much cut scenes). Don't waste your time!
I really wanted to chill out and enjoy this movie and forget the outside world for a couple of hours, but I just couldn't connect with it. I even found myself laughing out loud during a several unintentionally comical scenes. It's a particularly bad movie, such a shame.
They should've focused more on the romance between Jlo and Omari...Once she linked up with kid it took me out the film.
They had good chemistry!
@@BreakfastAllDay Exactly, they dropped the ball. That would've taken the movie to the next level.
I have an issue with the word mother. No one other than like the upper class refers to their mom as mother nor does any mom ends a note or letter with your mother they write your mom or ma or mum. No one normal people never uses the formal word.
