my Grandad was polish and he was abducted by Nazis on a sunday afternoon at age 17 after leaving church with his family. He was the youngest of 7 siblings and he never saw any of them except 1 again, or his parents. He was forced to work in fields farming from which he escaped by jumping on a moving train. He arrived in France and ended up joining the french army and was a tank driver. He was shot in the neck, however the bullet skimmed his neck so he lived but he could only eat certain foods for the rest of his life and always had to wash it down with a drink as he struggled to swallow it naturally. He died a few years ago at the age of 95. God rest his soul. He was a warrior and he never liked to speak about what he had been through as it upset him dearly. Love you Grandad, i miss you x

Similiar story to my grandmother - she was abducted by Nazi at the age of 17 and taken to german family as a governant/maid. She's never seen her family again. After WWII she finally came back to Poland and - as she said - it was even worse then living as a prisoner in Germany. The country was so devastated that sometimes she suffered from hunger. But the worst is still ahead. The Soviets! Poland was betrayed by allies and given to Stalin as a trophy. 6 years of war and 50 years of communism threw Poland into the basket of third world countries.
My granmma dies in late 2000. Germany never paid for her 6 years of forced labor, declining her prisoning, cause there was no evidence and documents. Like Germans were supposed to do that. However she was always very cheerful and all of her grandchildren loved her so much. She was very kind despite the hell she went through during her teenage years. A real hero to me - her beloved grandchild.
My great grandfather was a polish veteran in ww2. He mostly conducted sabotages and sent info to resistance groups. One time when collecting info he was caught doing it by nazis and he escaped through a corn field. He didn't die and he lived up to 2015 or 2014 where he passed away. His surname was "pająk" or spider when translated to polish.

According to modern data, the number of losses suffered by the Soviet Union in World War II amounted to 27 million lives. 10 million of them are military personnel, and 17 million are civilians, including children and women. China's losses still cannot be fully estimated.

no one of them tried to help USSR in 1941-1943
The British gave the USSR as many USA to British supplies as the British could "spare and dare," from July 1941 onward. The Kriegsnarine sank many British cargo ships (merchantmen) in this effort. The British supplied the USSR with Hawker Hurricanes.
Prior to 1943, the USA supplied the USSR with hundreds of Curtiss Kittyhawks (the export version of the P-40E).
Prior to 1943, the Soviet Army ate tons of canned ham (Spam) gifted by the USA, and delivered by British convoys.
The Royal Canadian Army paid dearly with a heavy loss of life attempting to establish a beachhead at Dieppe, France in 1942.
In 1943, the USA supplied the USSR with thousands of very large trucks that the Soviet Army used to transport fuel for its tanks.

Thank you for a great video. Both my grandmother and grand father fought in WW2 under the British army and navy. My Grandmother was a driver of cars, trucks and ambulances. Whilst my Grandfather went to sea up to Norway. After the war they married and started a new part of their lives. My Grandmother passed away only one year ago, aged 92 years old.
I'm from Russia. My great-grandfather fought in this war, fought in Stalingrad and took Berlin.

The reason hitler invaded was to use force to change the fate of the german people. And look at where germany is now, prosperous and a good place to live. If there was no hitler then germany would be poor for more than 100 years.

You forget to say that in May 9, 1945 USSR captured Berlin and ended Nazi Germany. That was a major point in ending of war.

A very nice overview of a big conflict. It's understandable some things are left out, but the comments provide additional information. The Polish resistance was very huge as already pointed out. In Indonesia (previously Dutch East Indies) Dutch civilians were put into Japanese internment camps were many people died of exhaustian and malnutrition. Keep up the good work!

This is great! With this video I'm going to totally pass my AP exam tomorrow!
Its currently 1 am right now and tomorrow is the deadline of my history paperworks because my brain best works around 11pm-2am and I don't know how to do my timeline or ww1 and ww2 if this channel didn't exist. Tysm for making my life easier and for not having me read hundreds of paragraphs about this war gawd it bores me. I'm so productive at night and rarely get anything done in the morning. @@isyaboi7818 I mean it would take literally 10 seconds to mention 100 other small details which had a huge impact on the course of the war. Then you end up with a 30minute video.

@@commanderlightgaming8315 maybe delayed the Allied victory, but Axis power was not nearly as strong as it had to be to try and fight in 2 fronts.
*IF* Japan was as strong as Germany, and had a combined strategy with the Nazis, then maybe they could have helped taking the USSR after Hitler was done with the UK.
The only way Axis powers would have a chance for victory would be for the USA to stay neutral for at least 5 more years, and in that time frame the fascists take the UK and USSR (which was also something they would have a slim chance of, as RAF was doing a superb job defeating the Lufftwaffe; and also, USSR had all their massive industry and budget directed to building more and more tanks and jet fighters).
I guess the best scenario for an Axis victory would be for Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan to join forces against USSR, defeat the Red Army by taking the 2 fronts to the Russians´ mainland; and, while doing so, if Hitler got a nice embargo on UK, forcing them to negotiate a truce.
Europe would be completely taken or forced into being pro-Germany (by becoming neutral or puppy States), and the Axis Empire would be fully extended to Siberia, with all the Pacific territories under Japanese control, which would struggle to fight Australia but would eventually win.
Having developed the A-Bomb during these years (this above hypothesis would take the war into the 1950s...), USA wouldn´t be invaded, but then again all other resources apart from the Americas ones (North and South) would be under Axis rule, as African colonies of European states would become pro-Axis, or would be invaded by the Axis forces.
By then, USA would have the urgent need for signing treaties that would prevent them from going bankrupt, as most of the world (Europe, Asia and Africa) would be under the rule of Germany (Europe, some lands in Africa, and part of USSR), Japan (Asia, including part of the USSR) and Italy (some lands in Africa and part of the USSR).
Who knows, in this hypothetical reality that i described above, what would happen in a world divided as such, maybe by now (2021) the USA would have desintegrated due to pressures (economic ones, mostly), with many independent states, with some being pro-Axis; and maybe Axis new territories would have faced major rebellions and we would have much more "terrorism" happening in all parts of the world, on a daily basis.
