I’m still curious how him slapping at a puck, while his foot is in the crease, has been spun into “he had control.” I must’ve been watching a different game/highlight.
I've seen bits and clips of Ruff whining about this for years, but has anyone ever actually pressed him on that aspect? I've never seen one clip of Ruff talking about this goal that's longer than 8 seconds. Not once have I seen someone ask him about that.
they were calling dudes for being in the crease all season, regardless of posession. And then there was some memo passed around that nobody read. Idk. I was a huge buffalo fan during this era, yeah holzinger knocked the puck out of haseks glove its just as much his fault. But, they were calling this all season. Go watch games from the 99 season if you dont beleive me.
@@Gammera2000well if he made it from a foot back it would’ve been a goal. But the rule wasn’t “well since he probably would’ve made it anyway it’s a goal” it was supposed to be “he’s clearly in the crease so no goal”
The ONE thing that had been consistent that WHOLE season was if an offensive player’s skate was in the crease it was NO GOAL. Earlier in the playoffs the Bruins had a game winner nullified against the Sabres in game 6 of their series, or who knows it might’ve been the Bruins in the finals
Hull shot. SCORE SCORE SCORE, THE DALLAS STARS, BRETT HULL, THEY'VE WON THE STANLEY CUP! DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS, THE STARS, ARE SHINING! Gary Thorne
It was a good goal according to rule 78(b). You were allowed to be in the crease if the puck was there. You are not allowed to stand in the crease while another member of your team shot at the goalie. That was the purpose of the rule. Hall shot the puck, there was a rebound, incidental contact against him forced him to stand where he was, then he shot the puck in. That is a good goal. Absolutely nothing controversial about it.
I’m a Stars fan, and I also was at time, but if they have any bitterness, I can’t blame them. Still one of the most memorable moments of my life as a sports fan.
I'm a Sabres fan and AM still a little bitter... at how bad the rule was written. I hope you enjoyed seeing your team get the Cup. Any sane set of rules calls that a goal.
@@SquallLionhart409 I was glad the Stars won, but even as a minor, I saw the other side pretty quickly. I like what one fan said about the goal several years ago: Brett Hull had about as much control of that puck as I have over the weather.
In the crease or not that goal should not have counted for an even more basic reason. If you look closely Hull’s skate is interfering with Hasek’s stick and since Dominik likes to poke check the puck away that definitely caused issues with him stopping the puck.

I was a huge buffalo fan during this era, yeah holzinger knocked the puck out of haseks glove sort of, but the puck was never under haseks glove, holzinger might of thought it was tho and came to try to get hull away from the goalie but ended up hitting the puck and it drifted to the perfect spot for hull to just shoot an easy goal. But, they were calling this all season. Go watch games from the 99 season if you dont beleive me.

I'm a Blues fan, and I remember watching this. Really wanted Hull to win a Cup. But that should have been NO GOAL.
Didn’t the rules change after this though ?
@@RB01.10 Yes, the very next season they did away with that stupid rule. After the firestorm that erupted after this play.

Im still sitting in my seat section row 19 seat 6 waiting for the refs to say no goal!!
NHL had said earlier in the season that if a player is in control of the puck A FOOT IN THE CREASE IS ACCEPTABLE!!!! Dang it's been 25 years!!

@@joshuaneal7552there’s a lengthy interview from a couple years ago, where he talks about it.
He didn’t have control. He saw the puck get kicked out and shot it. I can’t find any angle that shows him even touching the puck until he shoots it.
His foot was in the crease. They were calling everything back all year. Stars bench cleared fans were jumping up. Refs were like" meh lets go home"
Yeah, his foot was in the crease, but only because #19 pushed it into the crease.
Yeah, it's technically illegal, but it doesn't matter. He still would have made the shot if he was back another foot.

We find ways to loose championships in the most heartbreaking fashions ever!!!
Greetings from Buffalo New York
Son of a B. So I rmbr they only got there bc of a bills eff up. I mean sabres
Yeah, the Bills by losing 4 in a row. Plus Scott Norwood in the first one...
sadly, this. - a bills fan

Yep. Just be glad the Kansas City Scouts lost their franchise. LOL. City of losers.
Foot in the crease no goal per 1999 rules.
Lindy Ruff was by far the best Sabres coach

And the Stanley Cup has been won"

If it wasn’t for the absolute brilliance of Domink Hassek this would of been a 4 game sweep.

Well the fortunate thing is that the whole foot in the crease rule doesn't exist anymore, alongside two line pass lol.

They called it on us in this series. I think it was even this game in the 1st ot they waved it off
Sabres have had 2 stanley cups stolen from them n ppl think sports leagues arnt rigged
luckily hockey karma exists because they lost to NJ right after then TB down the road and may the continue to lose anytime they get to the SCF.
Even if it wasn’t a goal, the gm would hav continued in OT n u still had gm 7 in Dallas had they won. This wouldn’t hav garinteed them a cup
😂😂😂😂😂😂
@slapshot68 we scored earlier in the game and they called it no goal... wouldn't of been a 2nd or 3rd ot.
When was the 2nd one? Considering they've only been in one Cup Final before
Brett Hull never celebrates a goal???
this was an easy one for prejudice to call. Golden Brett v Dominator. the narrative is clear. favourable scripts must be written.
