    I cannot believe it was that easy. I was out in the yard hitting some wiffle balls just practicing getting my wrists in the proper position for the down swing and all of a sudden, my ball contact was incredible, and my divots were 3-4 inches in front of the ball. This has been something I struggled with for 30 years. I cannot wait to get out to the range and start hitting balls. THANK YOU.

    I actually feel less in control when tuning down my swing speed. Less momentum and tension that stabilizes my body. But in return i get tired quicker and have a hard time controlling my swing path. When i get tired i do the mistake you mentioned with the downswing.

    Was eager to try this at the range today because I’ve been hitting a weak fade with all of my clubs the last month or so. I actually thought I was losing distance due to my age.
    This truly did help with contact and hence distance. I was hitting a pulled draw shot early which I’ve been known to do. Yet, I was able to straighten out.
    I also didn’t get near as tired. I wanted to keep hitting balls. Gonna rush to range again tomorrow and next few days in preparation for a round with some coworkers next week.
    I’m very excited. I’ve tried other tips from videos to shallow out the club but something about this teaching related to me. Thx for the teaching

    Maybe you can shed some light on this for me: according to indoor driving range, similar to the set up you have there, I hit the ball 20 yards farther than I ever have on a golf course? For example, I hit a 5-iron on average 185 yards carry, 200 yards total roll on an indoor range (I'm 63 years old, 9 handicap). On an actual golf course, I have never hit a 5 iron more than 180 yards to include roll out. Another example, a few years ago I was fitted for irons on an indoor machine. The result was a stiff (S300) dynamic gold shaft because I hit it farther (10 yards) than any other shaft tested. I tested the full gamut of shafts from L, A, R and S flexes, steel and graphite. I had clubs built with that shaft and lost 10 yards on the actual golf course versus my old regular flex shafts.......Do these machines lie to us??????

    When launching at 14°, you’re 2° stronger than the tour average and closer to the tour average for a 6i. All great for ball speed and more distance but you sacrifice your stopping ability on the green. You’re getting over 10 yards of rollout with a 7i which is not going to do anyone, any good.
    Only way this works is if you’re already a high speed/high spin player so that you still have the stopping lower on the green. With a 108 CS on a 7i and 8k backspin, I can afford to take spin off but most recreational golfers can’t If you’re already a guy who is closer to the average joe, you’re going to be rolling off the back of the green.

      @briantierney4703 Před 3 lety +6

      In all fairness to Ali his message is to the wider world and not necessarily directed toward the scratch or better than scratch golfer. But, even here, it reinforces just how valuable it is to swing within yourself and to compress the ball. Don´t get caught up and distraced by the 10 yds of rollout... remember these were casually hit shots as he talked his way through and where the club face was often slightly closed. I think he´s done an excellent job on getting the concept across.

    • @YoungMoneyInvestments
      @YoungMoneyInvestments Před 3 lety +5

      @@briantierney4703 I think we both agree that a solid, controlled swing will play better than an out of control faster swing.
      However, what you said reinforces why the average golfer shouldn’t want to take this approach to gain more distance with their irons. Less loft equals less height and less spin, two things most golfers already don’t have enough of on approach shots. He’s a teaching professional so the average golfer who attempts this is going to get more rollout off the back side of the green. Stopping power on the greens is important.
      Hopefully our differing views can help bring to light the pros and cons for those attempting or considering this. Cheers! 🥂

I would say your 6’-2” which will add more distance because of your arch of the club. You hit the sweet spot every time most of us don’t. When you slow your club speed you have to be careful not to decelerate to much or you will chunk the ball. That being said, I loved your video!

The issue was the distance loss was only with my irons and caused about a 30 yd gap between my longest iron (4) and my 21* hybrid. A quick checkup from my local pro showed me that my grip had gotten a weak and was causing me to leave the face open on the downswing and flip to square it at impact. A little tweak to my grip kept my face square to slightly closed during my swing and reduced dynamic loft at impact 4* - 5* and viola…spin launch and peak height came down and ball speed and distance came back up to where I’m used to seeing it. Almost every time I try to hit a club easy so I don't overshoot, my swing is much cleaner, I connect better and actually hit even further. There is a saying in Martial Arts - "Slow is smooth and smooth is fast". And it could definitely be applied to golf.

    I have tried to do this swing. It wears my left wrist out and I am drawing everything into hooks. The yardage is longer but I don't know if I want to switch to drawing every one of my clubs.

    Instead of changing your existing swing and delofting your irons, what about simply keeping the swing you've already grooved and take one more club while swinging smoothly?

    Slowing everything down helps a ton.. backswing mostly, I’m seeing much more consistently straight shots. I had to readjust club selection for irons a bit.. I was muscling my PW to 150-165.. but with inconsistent results. Save your back.. arms.. and strokes.. slow down!

    Try hitting your clubs 3/4 of the distance you normally do but still with a full swing. THAT will smooth your swing & you'll make good contact from the center of the face more often. You'll be surprised by the tempo it gives you & even better distance just by hitting the center of the face. Try it for a whole bucket of practice balls & give it a chance rather than quitting after a few bad shots. It's a little harder than it sounds. Let the club swing rather than pulling it down from the top. IMO, the 1 thing that's rarely mentioned by teachers but 1 of the most important factors in the swing is grip pressure. For speed in the swing, you can't have tension in your hands, wrists & arms which doesn't allow the full weight of the club to go thru the ball thus reducing speed. They call it a golf "swing" for a reason. Relax & let the club swing freely rather than trying to control it.

    I've been trying this move but it seems to hurt my left wrist a bit. Working on getting the grip into my fingers and less in my palm. Helps a lot.

      I'm no pro but I had the same issue at first. I've found that you can compensate for the hard left wrist roll simply by taking a stronger grip on the club with your left hand (meaning palm facing more toward the ground). You can then roll your wrist less to where it's more comfortable for you and your club face will remain aligned with your spine angle if done properly. Also, key point you mentioned is keeping the club in your fingers! Hope this helps. Cheers.

    Was at the range yesterday thinking this exact thing of why I am not getting more ball speed but I feel like I'm swing so quickly.
    Can you PLEASE do the same type of video but for the driver? Also, what if you use a stronger grip, will you still need to roll the wrist?

      Your swing speed should remain the same regardless of whether you're hitting a wedge or a driver.

    Wonderfully explained, I'm the kinda guy that plays Golf Well but Honestly things like Smash Factor , Side spin and other things are foreign to me. I wanna hit a draw I do it, I wanna hit a fade I do it, Knock down ??? You get it. I can hit every shot in the book but I want to know some of the Science behind it for when I get in that so called " Funk ".
    Because when that happens I gotta bust 1,000 balls to get out of it. Would be nice to know what's wrong so I could fix it sooner rather than have to take 3 Dozen Tylenol and a bottle of Scotch to Numb the pain of 1,000 ball at the range. You got yourself a subscriber. God Bless.

    The main problem US armatures make - is trying to square the club head back to it's starting position, so why change direction/s of the hands throughout the swing? Why not just keep the back of the logo on ones glove (right handed golfers) pointing towards the ground through out the whole swing (which I will try out tomorrow) Surely with less moving parts of the bodies limbs will help to get the club head to ball square and easier!
    I look forward to trying this out and maybe some feed back from others if they have tried out my theory? Thanks Ali!
