I do see that the "filter" wasn't pushed all the way down on the can in the video. I've since pushed it down all the way. Thanks!
Purchase a k&n air filter cleaner at any auto parts store.. did you use carb cleaner to clean your throttle body?
I used MAF/Throttlw Body cleaner. I wouldn't use carb cleaner on it.
@@Greenlightfilming 10-4 thanks
@@Greenlightfilming well dude.. we have a major snow storm coming into my neck of the woods. Winter storm Gail is going to drop 18-24" of snow on us starting Wednesday morning all the way into Thursday night.. ugh.. or should I say it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
I was just looking at a catch can for my TA and the MM was one I was eyeballing.. Great timing!
Sweet, great timing there! I'd really like to install one on my TA. They are a great kit.
I’ve been eye balling a C6 corvette lately. Hoping to buy one next spring!
They are a great bang for the buck. Look for a Z51 car if you are shopping for a coupe. Otherwise the z06 is the way to go.
For sure something im gonna pick up for my ta this winter.
I'm sure you'll like it if they F-Body kit is as nice as the Vette kit. I'll probably pick one up for mine too.
ok , ive known about this product for some time now but really didn't know there was another way !! I'm convinced , that's the next thing i replace for my 300 dollar bird ....shes looking real good so far , have my dual exhaust installed and just got my passenger window motor and regulator in yesterday !! .....was 52 degrees in west Texas today ......hard to imagine what all that snow does to you not able to drive your bird but don't blame you , ....lol...heck i wont drive mine in the rain !!!!.....thanks for the upload bro ....old guy in west Texas !!!!
Keep telling me about the weather down there and I'll move sooner or later lol. This can is a real nice part, and it's probably great insurance on any engine. Keeping that sludge out of your intake and intake ports cant hurt lol.
subbing just so I can see more of this BA T/A!! Love the wheel / color combo! Definitely a dream car of mine along with the Z06 ! (And maybe a foxbody, someday , lol) Going to watch the rest of the video. Great content, keep it up brother!!
Thanks! Appreciate the support 👍👍
That's a good idea, nice work on that.
Thanks bud. Mighty Mouse did all of the real work making the kit itself.
You have two badass cars coming from a Ford guy owner of a Mustang Bullitt fully built supercharged 🤙🏻
I'd love to own another late model mustang. We had an s550 ecoboost and it was a ton of fun
Thank you for the video. I installed a non-vented catch can on my other car and no vacuum issues. This time I bought a vented one similar to you MM catch can. I thought I might have issues with vacuum and have not installed it yet. It seems you don’t have any vacuum issues so I am relieved.
No issues with vacuum on these systems. They have a check valve in the canister. 🍻
This ☝🏽 better be under my Christmas tree this year 🙄
Lol I hear that!!!
Put a catch cam on the Silverado for sure! Lots of those trucks on the road and I’m sure ppl would want to see it
I had that same line up. Sold my ta and my vette wasn't a z06. But they look beautiful together
They are both great cars. I've also had a C6 Z51 car. Lots of fun.
Catch cans are really an overlooked thing on alot of cars hell I just threw one on my 95 TA a couple weeks back and its doing its job pretty good so far its catching all of the oil that would be going right back into the intake manifold.
Agreed! That was my first thought after seeing the intake manifold. Seems like it should be the first mod to any car now.
So you can purchase a catch can for the LT1?
@@Greenlightfilming hopefully you don't have salt on your Z06 from the road conditions???
@@keilylmm6377 Yes, they are for sale on their website. I believe they offer them for LT1 and LT4 cars.
@@keilylmm6377 No salt until today luckily. It's been a weird year for weather here.
Be aware that using the filter on the catch-can causes a vacuum leak. The car will run but will be lean. You must block off the filter opening to use this on a vacuum sourced PCV like the stock setup. To use the filter, you need to have it connected to the valve covers with the vacuum port(s) plugged on the engine (non-PCV style).
You would be correct if this catch can didn't have a check valve that closes under vacuum.
I got the mild setup but a bit confused where to install the hoses. The dirty side from where the loop was coming from the Valley plate. I have a Sheet Metal welded custom Manifold Intake and it got 4 hoses going in with the larger 1/4 NPT going to the brake booster, the smaller 1/8 NPT coming out of the Manifold going to the vapor canister purge solenoid, the rest is where I'm lost.
While I agree that using a catch can does help with the oil issue, using a vented can has to be the best ways to ruin the car driving experience. Oil vapour smells so strong and it fills the cabin when you vent it in the engine bay. Always showing up for dinner smelling like an oil change shop gets old pretty quick. One way to avoid it is to run a venturi tube in the exhaust and plump the top of the can to it. The passing exhaust creates a small vacuum that draws in the oil vapours and sends them them out the back through the exhaust. Obviously, you can't do this if you're running cats ... but if you're running a catch can, chances are you're not running cats.
Yeah, and I want to put this in here too. I've seen where thottle bodies on C5s are linked to the radiator. Their thottle bodies are actually water cooled. I've heard the c6s are too. I've never checked on mine.
This car did not have radiator fluid running through it. I don't think the C6's did in general. My Trans Am did, LT1 F-Bodies did, as well as all of the TPI third gens. Not sure what else did, but the common practice is to delete it with a "TB Coolant Bypass".
I had 2004 Ford Everest TDI, i tired fix the original 2.5 diesel engine, want to swap LS3 with T56 on it, any tips to make it realible and durable? Add oil cooler or something?
Thanks
Great informative video. Also, huge thanks for not having some awful rap song playing in the background!
I'm glad it was helpful, thanks for watching!
What is the breather on the can for? Doesn’t clean air come in through the normal PCV routing, pre-maf?
Oh your halltek filter is good forever. Just garden hose it inside out till white. Reoil with a k&n or any other cotton filter oiling kit liberally and let dry overnight. Like new again.
I'll have to wash it out then. I figured it was a reusable filter. Dont have any of the oil product
I prefer purchasing expensive stickers and getting complimentary parts.
😆😆
Has one valleyside outlet has two outlets where the loop hose was pulled from and you only have two hoses to the catch can , don't understand the routing of the 2 hoses when you have three Outlets?
Link to installation document/routing diagram. It'll make sense when you look at this. *edit - this is where Mighty Mouse hosts it*.

Nice. I just picked up a low mile, cammed (Katech Torquer 110) C6 Z06 myself. Mine is Yellow though cause I like the more brighter colors. Anyway, thanks for the video. I picked up a mild MM catch can setup to put on my Z also. One quick question, you going to do the Evo-X seats in your Z? I'm thinking about it myself as a future upgrade. I know you put them in your other C6.
Also, it is about time someone uses REAL MUSIC during the video. Love your taste in tunes, I'm sick in tired of overused EDM BS, LOL!
Full disclosure - the EDM stuff is used for a reason. Way easier to find copywrite free music. Everything else is a total crapshoot lol. They'll mute your video, or you cant monetize it....
I might change the seats out. I really liked the evo seats in the white c6, but the girlfriend didn't lol. Theres definitely a trade off in comfort. The factory seats are pretty nice but lack the bucket feel that the corbeaus have.
Sickkkk
Pricey little sucker. Wonder if it's really of value vs brands that cost significantly less. e.g. Moroso or others.
Check! I already put a upr catch can on my Ls within a year of getting it.
Good deal. The catch can is key on any car.
man i would love a black c6, is the paint not that bad to take car of?
It's a chore, that's for sure. Looks great but it's high maintenance.
Have been thinking about a catch can for my 02 WS6. Which one do you recommend ? (Would want it all black)
As far as Fbodies go, I've only had the one that's on my TA. Theres an oil level sight glass and overall it seems sort of cheap. Dont quote me but I believe it's a Speed Engineering one.
Looks like Mighty Mouse makes the same kit for the F-Body, so I'll probably go that route.
Elite engineering is another good catch can mfg. Not sure if they offer a kit for the f-body but it's worth a look if you dont care for the open filter look.
Go Mighty Mouse. Definitely the best setup. They will also help you with any questions or alternate setup if you’re not stock.
Do you have an installation video on the transam?
Negative. I'm hoping to pick one up for the car sometime soon here.
Is there one you did for your trans am. I’m building my ls1 and was thinking of buying a catch can for it.
Negative, I have not done one on the Trans Am. I'll probably pick another one up when they have a deal on them again. It's a well made kit, and I'd be happy to run one on everything.
@@Greenlightfilming okay youbro thank you. Stay safe. Say no to drugs
Hey on the tans am have you ever had to replace the Optispark or the PCM?
I have not had to personally replace those things, no.
No Optispark on LS engines. Those finiky parts were on LT1 engines. If water got on them it would cause issues so GM installed them under the water pump.......just because.
Did you fix the heads or was that not a concern? I have a ton of people on me about my stock heads on my 2008.
The car came with the heads already fixed. It's a problem on the Z06's for sure. If I recall it's more prevalent on the 2007-2008 model years?... Check on the Corvette Forums for better information. It's all on there.
What’s your exhaust setup and what headers you using
On the corvette? Longtubes into the factory NPP exhaust.
@@Greenlightfilming x pipe or straight
Serious question here but I was watching this video while doing something so I'm not sure if you stated this, but is there a serious benefit to doing this to a stock LS1 engine? I mean obviously it will keep the oil out of the intake part however is there a serious need for it, my ls1 has about 185k on it (i was told mostly highway miles when I got it at 178k but we never really know) i just won't have the funds or the means to rebuild the engine for probably 5 more years and I'm trying to maximize it's lifespan as my daily driver
Yes, there is a benefit to be had on the entire LS family of engines. They all have closed PCV systems like the Corvette does in the video. It's cheap insurance, and I plan on doing it to my WS6 sometime here.
@@Greenlightfilming awesome! Thank you, this will definitely be the next item i get
@@michaelsassman9883 Sweet. Hope it keeps your engine running cleaner. I know it's going to help my Z06!
What oil do you run on the vette. I run m1 O-40w
How much oil does your Vette use?
I'm running Mobile 1 5w30 synthetic. I think it's using more oil than it should.
I don't know how much exactly. I check it and add oil. Just seems like it's using more than it should.
Have you had similar issues?
Do you Suggest one on a 2006 gto?
Yes, I would recommend them on any LS engine.
What do I need to do boss I got 2002 Camaro
Go to their website and select whichever can you'd like from their F-Body menu.
Good info but why do you guys that are narrating have to include Hand waving & direction as you are filming just pointing at the car, just wondering
We must all have the same defect
Love your videos man and also follow your threads on LS1tech. I have an 00 SS With H/C/I LT’s and thinking I should be doing this mod.
Sweet, a Tech member speaks. I still like reading photo threads, so I keep adding all of this stuff there too. I figure other people are the same way lol.
I'd definitely recommend one on your car, especially being modified. Tuning an engine is great and all but I feel that oil consumption is a variable that you can eliminate for the most part with one of these. In theory it'll make the car more reliable?
@@Greenlightfilming I’m going to add it to my Christmas list 😂
I also just watched and read your rear end install on the WS6 which is going to be extremely helpful in the near future. I plan on upgrading my rear to fingers crossed a MWC fab. I’ve had my car for 20 years and no plans to get rid of it. So the goal is to try and do it right..once. 😎 Now I just have to convince my wife lol.
Haha good luck with the last part! It's like her convincing you that she needs more clothes lol.
You'll do fine with the rear end swap, in all reality it's pretty easy. You'll have a great setup with the MWC stuff. Hope you keep yours for a long time too!
The catch can cuts down on oil consumption?
How much was oil consumption before and after?
What oil do you like.
I like Mobil 1 but I'm thinking of switching to Amsoil 100% synthetic.
I run 5w30.
Do you think 5w30 is best?
What about 5w20, or the 0w40 Mobil 1 used in the C8?
Thanks.
Good video but you said it backwards when you comeback from showing the instructions dirty side steelwool side and clean side is shiny sliver when you went back you said the opposite had ne looking at my catchcan all weird lol i have MM also making the red cap the clean side n the dirty side none red cap like on the instructions red cap goes to intake manifold which is clean some reason your came with red cap on the wrong side should been on the right side away from the peak view glass
Is it too late to put a catch can on my vette with 80k miles?
Never to late. The best time to put one on is when the car is new. The next best time is now.
What song is this and who sings it?
Check the video description
Need a ws6 video
Just uploaded one. Ask and you shall receive!
Mighty mouse for the trans am
I'm thinking about getting one. The catch can that's on it seems cheap.
Hey there, I hear you are using my song in the intro of your video. Coded
No, it's not. The artist has been credited as they should in the description. Thanks.
@@Greenlightfilming HI yes, I checked in your description, it is Coded. I don't have a problem with the use just acknowledging that it's my song.
He who has the most toys wins where is your atc 250 r I’d love to have one again lol
I don't have one of those lol
@@Greenlightfilming I know but damn they hauled ass
Or for half the cost just go to a Motion raceworks can and make your lines....
How would you be able to replace the entire PCV line set, buy a can and fittings for less than this setup?
Mr. Green, I use catch cans on my 6 banger Vortex and my little LS3. I've used catch cans on other engines too. I never install those little red filters on the tops of them. I leave the holes for them blocked off. I've never understood their purpose. Seems to me having an Open hole there causes a leak in a Closed system. Also, I perfer spun stainless steel (pan scrubber) as a filtering media and really a catch can's optimal benefits are to be had when the catch can is mounted at the Lowest Point possible on the vehicle. Check it out if you want to. I don't come here that much anymore...maybe I'll check back. I do email you stupid shit once in a while, probably goes straight to spam........my Quick Jack arrives this Monday. El Paso.........
I had to check with Mighty Mouse about the filter, as you weren't the first person to ask about this. You are correct that it's a closed system, and the open filter would be a leak in the system. They actually have an integrated check valve in the can that takes all of that into account. I had been getting the emails but I figured you cc'd me on them by mistake as they appeared to be going to other people lol.
@@Greenlightfilming I guess, why would the add the cost of this filter, hole, threads and check valve if not a design sold for turbo's, supercharger that would increase crankcase pressure. Seams as a terrible waist unless it just look good. It just serves no function in a closed system?
Certified Automotive ASE Master tech since 1978.
@@deankay4434 would a regular turbo style catch can work better?
@@damnitdang (Cool name dude) I am not a catch can expert, but I do understand engines. Running a power adder such as a turbo changes things, depending on max boost, normal intentional use and current condition of your engine.
A turbo greatly increases volumetric efficiency by shoving air into the engine. This if used on an engine with ring gaps wider than spec, somewhat new and used several times each week to make the guy in his 14 year old Mustang change his under-britches after he stops crying, no problem. Let us built an oil catch can system together and you can easily compare notes to watch you have! Cool...
The preferred set up is to pull crankcase fumes from the center or valley of the engine if possible. Other wise, get where it is easy. I like easy! If you have a oil catch can with a top filter, use it. Run the hoses normally. (Can Placement) Put the oil catch can away from the radiator, engine block and especially exhaust. These cans are aluminum and gain heat and hold it. Place the can (If able) behind a headlamp will get mostly all outside air to cool the can. (Ideal place is touching the aluminum A/C accumulator if there is room) If able, after mounting or fabricating a better bracket, zip tie the can so it touches the accumulator. Many don't use them but I don't know what you have as newer cars & trucks place an insulation Shield around them. If you have one with room, cut a 1.5 inch slice out of it as round on round don't fit well, but just touching it with a slight amount of insulation gone (Save it, if selling 5-9 years, black weather stripe adhesive will look new) The turbo my friend, at conditions of high boost will or May over-come the oil catch can with volumes of normal blow by and now exit the top filter. That is the only reason to have this filter unless you have over 500 cu in under the hood.
I truly hopes this helps you, and brings you an understanding that leads to success. (Note; Intake valves for years got so caked with carbon, they absorb fuel. This cause hard cold starts as the carbon act like a sponge holding fuel, robbing the cylinder so lean it wouldn't fire or stay running cold. Damn I am old!)
@@deankay4434 I have acouole builds I'm doing. A new 22rte being built and will use a catch can. And a 2jz imm do the same. Watching your vids whole I'm researching ls swaps. I wanna do one on it also lol
Should be a sealed air/oil separator, not a can with a breather since you are adding unmetered air into the intake.
There's an internal check valve. It's not wide open as it would appear.
@@Greenlightfilming until that valve fails and you don't know it chasing a lean issue.
@@mgrotel any part can fail on any vehicle. Never had a problem with these, nor heard of one failing.
@Greenlightfilming exactly, so why add more parts that can fail? Why complicate it? Plus I would guess it's open sometimes when it shouldn't be.
@mgrotel well, lucky for you, it's something you'll never have to worry about. Thank you
little carried on
i dont care about this catch can company but they doing it wrong intake should have clean air not oily gases so catch can should take the vapors from the engine and clean it to the atmosphere no need to get it back to engine this is not 1950 anymore
