  • In this video, JoAnn goes over how to import handwriting or drawings into Cricut Design Space. She clicked import images at the top and then got rid of the background.
    Make sure to get rid of the background that might be behind the letters as well.
    The rest is easy, just put it through your Cricut, cut and weed! The same can be done for drawings you might want to turn into Vinyl projects. Let us know if you want to see more videos likes this!

    Thanks for the instructions! I'm getting frustrated. I'm a University of Texas degreed graphic designer who does a lot of work in Photoshop and illustrator. I'm just learning and am further along than my sister, who's had her second Cricut (Explore Air) longer than I have. I have so much trouble printing/drawing things I've done in Illustrator. I'm learning that I really need to do most of the work in Design Space to allow me to cut (eg. an earring card) and print my logo onto the card! I'm finding that I MUST use the text tool in Design Space to Draw. THEN I can't figure out how to FILL the darn thing. BIG learning curve!

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  Před 4 lety

      Hi Gaby, sorry for the delay. I don't use any special vinyl for this. You can cut without the mat when using the Explore, Air, Air 2 and One. It doesn't actually work on the Maker. You just need to make sure the vinyl is underneath the rubber rollers on the machine. Here is a video we did on that - czcams.com/video/dz4MwfDFjzY/video.html

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  Před 6 lety

      Hi, in Design Space you can import several different types of files. Some of them are automatically cut files you they will have all the cut lines on them. It sounds like the one you are using has that. On the last step of importing there is an option to have it as a Print then Cut image or just a cut image. You will want to choose Print then Cut. However, if it is one that has all the cut lines, the print then cut will still cut all the different spots. You could import your image as just a picture or jpeg image. Those require you to clean out where you want the cut lines to be. That is the process that was explained in here. Please let us know if you still have further questions on this. We'd be happy to help and answer them.

      Hi Jan, I drew the flowers myself so there wasn't a program for that. Then to edit it, it was just the default on my computer (WIN10). All I needed to do was change the colors so it was black and white that makes it a little easier to import in your Cricut.

      Images can be uploaded into the cricut design program as a print and cut. The program will guide you to print on your printable adhesive product, and then feed it into the machine to cut. This video will explain. czcams.com/video/pEvyJJERkPc/video.html

  • @christinepokriefka9173

    I don’t understand how you got the color. Is it from your printer or the Cricut? I only have one pen holder w my machine (CEA2).
    Also, I uploaded an image and tried to cut it out. The machine kept telling me it was too large, and it was well within the size of the 12 x 12 matte.

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  Před 5 lety

      The flowers were black and white she used a color pencil to put in the color. If you download it as a print and cut it should not be telling you it is to big, you can change it to cut file to get the correct size.

I’m looking into purchasing a cricut but I’m still not clear whether it can just simply replicate and mass produce my own calligraphy - (to utilize metallic inks instead of a regular printer!)

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi Amanda, yes, you can upload and just have the Cricut write instead of cut. There are a lot of different types of pens that will work with that. All you need to do inside design space is change it from a cut to a write image. That is done in the layers panel. Hopefully that helps a little.

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  Před 6 lety

      Hi Stacey, there are a lot of fun options with the Maker. If you want to have something draw instead of cut then you will need to change it to draw. To do that click on the image and then in the top left hand corner (layers Panel) you will see either a pair of scissors, pen or a printer. Click on that and change it to the one you want it to do. It will then draw everywhere that it would have normally cut. The other option is the Print then Cut option. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

      Hi JoAnn, great video but I have a different goal in mind that I can't find an answer to, I hope you can help. I have handwriting that I want my Cricut Explore Air 2 to draw, but when I change the scissor to the pen, the solid shape becomes a hollow one, just an outline. I've tried placing a shape over the outline and slicing but when I change the sliced layer to draw, the same thing happens. It becomes an outline. The handwriting was done with a chisel tip marker, it's calligraphy. Does the Cricut not fill in shapes with pens?

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi Logan, that would be a great option if it did but unfortunately it doesn't. When you change the cut lines to a writing line it is just switching what it is going to do. The pen will follow the exact lines that the cut line would have. Hopefully that makes sense. There are a few handwriting fonts that are available in Cricut Design Space though.

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  Před 5 lety

      You have two different erase tools. One is the select tool where you can just select areas and it will remove everything that is the same color and connected to it. The other one is the eraser. It works just like an eraser and will remove anything under it. You can also use the crop which will crop your image down a bit. If it is just the edges of the image you can not remove then that is a good option. When using the import you also want to make sure you are working with a very clean image. Otherwise it will be a lot of cleaning up. Hopefully this helps a bit.

      Upload your image as cut, or print and cut. Insert your image onto your project page. Select the image. In the top left of your cricut design space, to the right of the undo/redo arrows, you'll see where it says "linetype." click the arrow in the linetype box. It should show 3 options: Cut, draw, score. Select draw. That one image that was selected, is now a draw image. *always test before "Printing" your design*
