    Deadlifts are the one exercise I am very intimidated returning to. I am 9 weeks post-surgery and just getting ready to return to the gym...with great anxiety. My arm brace came off 1 week ago. Glad to see this video, knowing my fear will likely decrease over time. Stronger days ahead.

    Man, I'm two weeks post-op and I'm dying to work this freaking arm out again. These one side upper body leg day rest splits are not cutting it!

    I am definitely interested in the program, I am 58 days post surgery and just got cleared for 5lbs. My ROM is already phenomenal. Your videos are excellent and I have been following protocols. I deeply appreciate it

      @@Dr.JayDMD Still in sling. Threads are removed, rotation is not really good but it gets better. I'm taking multivitamins, collagen, magnesium etc. and working out on my own head. Hope for some instructions from my doctor this friday or I'll have to start looking for physio. More from the information I'm taking from you and other channel at this moment 😀

      This was a tough workout for me mentally.. The deadlift was one of my favorite exercises before the injury, now it's one of my most feared!
      How long ago did you tear your distal bicep tendon?? How is your recovery going?

      @@Dr.JayDMD I tore mine 2 months ago. Complete rupture. My biggest fear was having nerve damage and range of motion problems and not being able to return to work in time. By the time I had seen the Dr it all came back. So I told my self why get the surgery. I haven’t stopped working out and I’ve made some significant improvements. When I see videos like yours and others who have great recoveries I ask myself could that have been me and am i sure I made the right decision.
      I bet the fear of injuring it again is in the back of your mind. I hope you get to a point where deadlifts will be your favorite again.

    Thanks for the vids . Ruptured my left distal as well. Had an open grip with the left hand and pop. Sucked brutal recovery. July 5th will be my 6 month post op visit. Started lifting again. No where near your percentage of pre injury lifting. I am cable of going heavier just mentally not ready. My main issue is my shoulder locked up about the 10th week post op. They left me in the brace for 10 weeks. No one stressed to me importance of shoulder movement and bam locked shoulder. Fighting through it. But it is limited my push work outs. It’s hard to get a full gauge of my bicep recovery with the shoulder issue. Wondering if you have any advice on unlocking the shoulder. Thanks again for taking the time to make vids

      Hey @uniquetouch2816
      Thanks for the support! I'm glad to hear that you are finding value in my videos :)
      We are roughly in the same timeline wrt rehabbing this injury.
      I've said it multiple times, the physical rehab for this injury is easy, the mental rehab is HARD. I'm sure most will agree.
      The shoulder problem is pretty common after this injury. The prolonged period of immobilization of the joint (wearing that shoulder sling) takes a toll on the joint and surrounding muscles. I'm actually dealing with a bit of it myself. Its the main reason why I am still going to my RMT/Physio.
      What symptoms are you having? Shoulder impingement during pushing exercises? Shoulder pain while bicep curling?
      I can make a future video on this but to touch on it quickly:
      -Before every workout warm up the shoulder joint and rotator cuff muscles
      -Strengthen your rotator cuff muscles with bands and cables
      -Stretch out the lats and thoracic spine
      -Breakdown and massage your traps and pec muscles
      That is what I'm doing right now and it seems to be helping. :)

      @@Dr.JayDMD Thanks for taking the time to reply doc appreciate you brother. Great vids very informative. Shoulder impingement during pushing exercises for me. I feel like my shoulder may be in the thawing stage. No shoulder issues curling. To be honest though i dont do much bicep work yet. I use my arms so much working every day that I am always sore at the end of the day so I try not to over do it. Forearm size is finally come back. Still have some numbness on the inside of the wrist/forearm. getting better though. If it wasnt for my shoulder issue I would almost feel as if I never had anything done in the first place. Also I too had an open grip when I ruptured. IF you could do a video of the exercises I should do for shoulders that would be great. My shoulders used to be the strongest part of my body now the weakest. Only if you find time though, I know your busy as hell and making vids takes a lot of time. Your 100 percent about the mental part being the hardest. I WIsh you and everyone a quick and full recovery.

      "thawing stage" I love that. Wishing you all the best my brother.
      I can 100% make a video about this. Its a very common problem people get with this type of injury and I think it would be very helpful. I'll outline all the corrective exercises and stretches that should be done in order to "reprogram" the shoulder and involved muscles.
      For now you can check out one of the shoulder workouts I uploaded during my Phase 2 rehab process : czcams.com/video/LK40anBKXjQ/video.html

      Im ~5months from the day of surgery.. I haven't tried BPC-157 but I can say that I'm happy with the speed of my recovery without it.

    • @restlessundead8606
      @restlessundead8606 Před rokem +1

      @Dr.JayDMD I have been researching it like crazy. I have a partial tear in my rotator and bicipital tendinitis and my job is nothing but heavy lifting. I'm 6 months and tear is recovered but have bad inflammation and fluid still in my clavicle and biceps upper tendon to where it pops like crazy and hurts. Just got my BPC-157 today and will be starting tomorrow night when I get the rest of my supplies.

      @@restlessundead8606 it’s probably too soon, but have you noticed anything different since taking bpc-157?
      Are you taking oral or inj.?
      I’ve been thinking of making a video about this since most people going through this injury have probably come across peptides for faster healing

      @Dr.JayDMD taking injectable, so far half a ml. Second day after taking it and might be placebo but my shoulder doesn't bother me as much. Not as much popping and cracking with pain. I will keep you posted after about a week. Going to take half ml every other day for 3 times.

  • @Rokoshano
    @Rokoshano Před rokem +1

    When you ruptured it deadlifting, were you using a mixed grip? And was the arm that tore the "reverse grip" hand? (Appears to be the case in the video)
    I know this is generally the most common way to do it.
    If that's the case, does that mean you'll always use overhand/hook grip to avoid that?
    Straps is a good idea of course.
    My main concern is returning to weighted pull-ups-chin-ups, chin-ups in particular.
    The shear load that the bicep faces is scary prior to injury, let alone now.

    • @Dr.JayDMD
      @Dr.JayDMD  Před rokem +1

      Hey @Shane Gordon
      Yup, spot on. I was using a mixed grip and it was the supinated "reverse grip" that tore.
      I had this stupid idea in my head that using straps or grips was considered "cheating" even though I've NEVER competed in a powerlifting comp. So I stayed away from using them for the most part.
      Obviously things have changed since then.. And to be honest I don't see myself attempting a heavy pull using a switch grip, let alone not using straps. Weighting chin-ups and Preacher curls will probably be in that same category.. (I think pull ups/neutral grip pull-ups will still be okay)
      But we'll see.. I could just be saying that now since the injury is still fresh in my mind!
      Thanks for the continued support brother! Hope all is well on your side :)

    Hey Jay. Great vids along your distal rupture journey mate. I’m 9 days post of a full distal tendon tear surgical reattachment. I’m back in gym working legs, core and stared the left-good side. I’m quite nervous thinking of the time when I get the ratchet brace off and can start rehab with flexion moments again. Any advice?

      Hey @markstubbs5051
      Thanks for the support! Its nice to hear that my videos are helping you out! :)
      Sounds like you got a good routine going on. I truly believe that staying as active as you can post-surgery will help get you back to normal faster!
      As far as being nervous when you start using the arm again, its totally normal! But let me reassure you that its totally doable. You can see from the progression in my videos. I started VERY LIGHT and worked my way up.
      You're in the thick of it right now (~2 weeks post surgery). But In the next couple of weeks you'll start to see that you actually rehab from this injury fairly quickly!
      My advice for you is to make sure that you have good ROM and mobility before attempting any exercises. If you start working out while not being able to take the elbow/shoulder joint in full range of motion, you'll end up developing faulty recruitment patterns and problems down the line!
      A good Physio/RMT should get your sorted and let you know when you have the green light to start pushing!
