I have a 2GB symmetrical at home and these are perfect for that connection. Well worth the money.
Has your review changed at all in a year? Has the the software interface changed to allow disabling wifi isolation mode etc?
Good review. But I think one thing not mentioned is the Orbi AX can handle up to 100 devices under most circumstances. The old Orbi recommends not connecting more than 50 devices if you are using heavy bandwidth consuming applications. That is a big difference. Also AX or WiFi 6 is going to be more important if you are accumulating more WiFi devices. I probably have 80 devices in my home already. I had the old Orbi and it was good most of the time. I am a chord cutter so I would get buffering occasionally. Now I hardly get any buffering with Orbi AX. Not to mention I pay for 150 mbps down and 20 up. I consistently get 176-179 mbps down and 23 up in every corner of my house (even the basement) via WiFi. Latency is slightly lower too. So the dropped features were not a big deal for me given the upside of this router. Also my home is just under 4000 sqft. The router and satellite easily cover that. Make sure you use a DOCSIS 3.1 modem like cm1100 or cm1200.

Yes, I am a tech-savvy nerd!! Thx for the vid👍🏽. I purchased this same model awhile back but for only one feature it has over the RBK50 and thats the antennas! And for me it does make a difference, but the price does make me feel like a fool cause honestly it should cost around $500.

Got the Orbi 5 triband the other day and I feel a lot better on the purchase since it’s not a huge difference on speed compared to the orbi 6. Great review!
Nice review. I have a quick question -- I currently have the RBK752 model. I'm super happy with its performance. The one feature that I'm missing is the ability to create multiple wireless networks and to be able to isolate them by vlan id. I've been reading that the 852 model does provide such feature.The product description says that you can manage up to 4 SSIDs and VLANs. I'm wondering if that's the case. I'm not so much interested in isolating the wired ports. My goal is to properly manage 2-4 wireless networks (e.g. 2 IoT, my cameras, and my private wireless network) from a security standpoint. Thx
I got the alien router and I’m getting between 700 to 800 over Wi-Fi 30 to 40 ft away from it🤘💪
Your phone wifi symbol is showing you are only using wifi5 or older. With wifi6, there will be a 6 in the upper right of the wifi symbol to let you know your on the new AX band.
Not with an iPhone.

Also I believe the 852 has 8 antennas, versus 50's 6. Could you test range strength between the two?

It might be overkill right now, but you wouldn’t have to upgrade your router for many years and you would likely be able to get the full 200 Mbps in every corner of your house.
Awesome. Very helpful. I'm upgrading my house to Cox Gigablast at 1G/sec and was wondering what difference a $300 (RBK50) vs $700 (RBK852) would make for me. All the devices in my house are 802.11bgn devices, so I was thinking already that I wouldn't see much of a difference going with an AX6000 router over a AC3000 one. The price point for the RBK852 is pretty unbelievable, so I'd have to be getting a LOT to make that worthwhile. I'm just not seeing it, and apparently you didn't either, so I'll be opting for the RBK50 and saving 400 bucks. Thanks!
DoctorFixMaster I recently just upgraded my Cox plan to Gigablast too and I was looking at the Orbi routers. How is your Orbi router holding up? What are the speeds you get wirelessly and what’s the range like? Consistent speeds all throughout the house? Would highly appreciate a reply!
@@TheTarzan266 I couldn't get myself to pay that kind of money for the Orbi when I don't have any wireless devices in the mouse > 802.11n I decided to go with the CM1200 cable modem, using the 4 ethernet ports on it to feed my existing router and 3 other high bandwidth devices in the house over cat6 ethernet. Way less expensive than what I was originally considering.
Any suggestion how to get faster down/upload speed? I have gig speed internet but only getting 400+ download/upload hardwired to the router. I tried testing the speed the router is getting from the modem using the orbi app, and its at 900+. Any suggestion how? Btw, i tried AP mode too, but same results
Gig is a wired speed only from any ISP, depending on the age/materials of your home (which is most folks issue) you will almost never see fast than about 600 mbps on wifi in the most ideal circumstances (newer homes). I work for a major ISP and spend my entire day explaining this to people in 60-80 year old inner city homes. Furthermore, you should have zero issues doing just about anything at 400 mbps, including gaming which is more of a latency issue than a speed issue and fiber has almost no latency, both. XBox and Playstation gaming servers only support 100 mbps flowthrough....most people shouldn’t waste their cash on a $700 wifi 6 Orbi, if you need better wifi using mesh, the $200 Linkysys Velop will work just as well for the average user.

I realize that to get the full benefit of wifi 6 I would need wifi 6 compatible devices, but since I have no plans on replacing all 60 of my current smart home devices, would this Orbi AX6000 setup help even a little bit in terms of speed and drop off issues with my older devices? I have the RBK50 system and while In the same room as the main router I get about 650mbits over WiFi. And about 450-500mbits when connected to the satellites. If I upgraded to this, do you think I’d say any improvements to those speeds over WiFi
A Orbi is not for network nerds... they are lacking 80% of the futures network nerds need. this is for people who don't want to play with settings, just install and have wifi

Can you hook it up to a generator during a power outage? Not sure how many kw’s it takes?

Im disapointed with netgear interface and their support. I have orbi non wifi 6 and im getting around 400. Cant justify paying more money for wifi 6. I think my next mesh network is going to be google or ubiquiti
I get shit for speed on my same routers! I have fios best connection. New fiber ran to my house with cat6. Brand new. I get 95mb up and 35mb down. Wtf

No. Maybe in the future they will offer that, but not right now.
If you connect to you modem, is it possible to add more Ethernet ports?

I don't think you need WiFi 6 for 400mbps. 5ghz 4x4 160mhz should be able to go more thank twice that fast, and that's just AC rather than AX.
I'm curious with the old one and the new one if it can give you over 900mbps on a modern device.

People, just hold off a couple more months, lots of more affordable WIFI 6 Mesh systems coming out.
Things move soo fast. It’s all about WiFi 6e now. And what for companies to catch up and make WiFi 6e capable products.

I think you misunderstood. It is a good product that performs well, but it is a hard upsell over the RBK50.
