    Some of the best in engines I've built were collections of parts from other blown up engines

      I know its not that same but my buddy took a rusty small block chevy block that was sitting outside, we ran a ball hone thru it, took parts from 3 other small blocks to make one. Best running small block I've ever ridden in. Put like 30k miles on it and we think it cracked a pistol or broke a ring. Good enough for us!

      @54raceman Před 4 lety +2

      Buddy had a slapped together sbc 383 dirt track motor that he bought off his boss at the time and it didn’t have even 2 pistons that matched and ran that thing on and off for probably 15yrs as a backup for when his good engines were broke until it finally let go few years ago in spectacular fashion. That thing ran like a scolded dog to have been a piece of junk

    • @54raceman
      @54raceman Před 4 lety +2

      it’s replacement was a block and crank out of a ambulance that jumped time and piston hit valve, some rods and pistons from 2 or 3 blown up engines that were setting in a bucket beside another friends garage and some heads from another buddy that had been through a house fire that his brother machined for him one night at a local machine shop when he got off work at the railroad (bored block same night)and a used cam he still don’t even know where he got it or what it is

    Best time trial training for an engine build with the worst timing lmao. It's pretty awesome that you guys are sharing this real world scenario with us and also damned cool how the shop, owners, and staff all work together and operate like family to help each other out. Also I'm glad I'm not the only one who has luck like Josh is experiencing.............not in the sense of I build engines and theu blow up, in the same way that you imagine to yourself worst case issues, combine all the possibilities as a joke and maybe exaggerate it for the sake of humor...............then in reality it ends up even worse than you off than what you jokingly made up 🤣!
    Keep yer head down and let er eat Josh, with your determination and skill there's no way you will fail bud!! There's a shop, well many shops and manufacturers that clearly believe in their products and you to make all this come together, so lord please keep videoing all aspects of this build, tear down, and rebuild process!!!

      Most steel piston applications in that bore size call for 002" to 003" PTW clearance because steel expands at nearly the same rate as cast iron, it needs less initial clearance. Some would argue 005" was too much clearance and caused the piston to rock and break the skirt. Regardless, setup #2 with cast pistons and a moderate 008" PTW is still hanging in there!

The quote that says it is doing the same thing over again and expecting different results is incorrectly attributed to Albert Einstein and instead is from author Rita Mae Brown and is attributed to the fictional character Jane Fulton from the book Sudden Death. It's funny how things like that get started and before you know it people start believing the Earth is flat.

      It's an aftermarket replacement 6.7 Cummins based engine block produced by Hamilton Cams. 300 mpa alloy vs 275 mpa alloy on OEM Cummins blocks. Thicker cylinder walls, thicker outer shell, thicker webbing in the bottom end, roughly 13 lbs of added material all in critical areas to increase strength. It was designed to be a solution for 1200 to 1800 HP street trucks that would otherwise split a factory block but didn't have the 30k for a wet deckplate engine.
