- (excerpt from live show) Jimmy Z says, "This was Freedomfest, Nelson Mandela's 70th Birthday celebration, before he was released from prison. It helped spark the worldwide anti-apartheid movement. Our set was at 9:30 in the morning and we followed two short acoustic sets by Sting and George Michael, so the crowd was ready for a full electric band. I'd been on a pub-crawl terror for two weeks in London so I was feeling a little wobbly but the adrenaline rush of playing to 100,000 crazed fans seemed to help my aches and pains. I thought at one moment during the harp solo I was going on a bit too long but then I said to myself, " ...oh what the hell ...one more!" www.ztribe.com
8 degree black belt master of the Harmonica!!!!!
It's less than 4 weeks away from 2020 and this remains The Gold Standard for How To Harp.
Thanks for putting this vid on...I thought it was lost forever....honestly I always rated this solo as THE greatest crossharp solo ever and there are some riffs Jimmy does which I find to this day incredible difficult. Amazing solo simply out of this world!!!!
I remember watching this performance on French tv when I was young.
I still have this solo in mind and think about it on a regular basis : for me this live version of There Must be an angel is the best ever.
A big thrill each time I see it :)
As a Marine saw this concert live but from Mombasa Kenya. Doing a dog and pony show for Kenya and this was on tv at a bar. Wild thing was it was still morning and I’m like why are they playing in the morning and not at night. Anyway they were great and wish I had a video (dvd) of this concert.
A magical time. Thanks for sharing!

Expectacular!!!
Amazing❤
it´s on an sampler called: "Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute 1988"
Pretty rare, video-tapes has been merchandized in those days, don´t know about (regular & official) CDs. But ask for 1988 Mandelas 7oth tribute. There is some more great stuff!
Awesomely & outlandishly impressed Jimmy Z!!! I always have been singing the praises of your "Muzical Madness" album, which by the way IS one of the best albums of the 90's, but I never knew you worked with The Eurythmics and this is a total throwdown! You have a special gift & never ever think that your efforts go unnoticed homeboy!!!! Love It
Just goes to show that sometimes a blinding hangover can really up your game (:
Hi Jimmy! I met you when you played at Caravan of Dreams in Ft. Worth, with Robbie Kreiger and Eric Burdon. I was with my old friend and bandmate, Jack Morgan. That was a great show. I remember Jack was always talking about you. He was right...you really are a great Harmonica player! BTW, I played bass in the very first band that Micky Raphael played in while living in Dallas back in the 70's. Cheers, Tex
INCREIBLE!!
Incredible!!!
Wow. What an incredible solo!
