I've been riding Harleys since 2003 (when the prices on used ones finally came down) and I don't see myself ever riding anything else. I only ride carbureted Harleys. Not a fan of EFI.

The Bolt is a great bike and I am sure you will enjoy it as much as we do. The Bolt is definitely lighter than the V-Star and is not short of power by any means. There are also plenty of options to upgrade and customize it exactly to your liking! Best of luck with it all! 😎✅

P.S. The Koso Speedo is great and you can do so much to it. You can set speed limit reminders, it has a gear indicator, temp gauge etc and you can even change the backlight with 6-7 different colour options. Very happy with this mod and would highly recommend it! Links for the one that we bought are in the description.

Yes yes yes!!! The display is a must to change right of the bat. Love the choice of exhaust ! Have you thought to get a wider tire on the back or a wider wheel all together? I am curious in the changes in performance and consumption, as well as in the stability of the bike. Would look amazing with a wider wheel and bobbed in the back!
All good stuff. Don’t forget to set the original kilometres on the Koso from the old unit, I noticed it showed just 4km. Here in the UK if you have less mileage/kilometres than it should have (this is recorded when having the bike MOT’d, road worthy cert) it’s classed as “clocking” and could end up with a heavy fine.

Love the bike and the 3 mods were nice But im not crazy about the exhaust, I feel like that designe is more for choppers and your style bike would have looked Amazing with a Basani 2 into 1 exhaust giving it even a little more back pressure wich equals a little more power with great exhaust notes.. All just IMO ofcourse.. Great video

FYI - Make sure you get your ECU flashed to stop the over-popping (it's gets a bit much after some time) and it will also help with fuel consumption. THe flash will also put a bit more power in your throttle.
@@reinblunt Good tip! I'll enjoy the cracks and pots for a little bit. I was thinking about riding it out for this season, I love waaaaaaay up on northern Alberta Canada so the season is relatively short, then add an intake this winter and send the CPU out to Ivan over on Europe, I've heard great things about his tunes.
@@gingernaut2550 Another option is that you could send it here to Yuri in Brisbane, Australia, he is the king of flashes on this side. He flashed our bike (the one in the video) twice, once when we got the sweepers and again when we still heard popping, he fixed it up like a mad max mechanic! We tested it by racing against 3 other bolts and smoked em all, they were not even close, so it's a no brainer to get it done. Highly recommend the flash, with whomever you choose.

I've been looking around to get a bolt and I think I am getting too close to get one. I do have a Yamaha Stratoliner and I just want to downsize with everything. Happy riding and be safe at all times.

Compare that to the Bolt and you will have yourself a super playful, lighter bike with quick acceleration, a beautiful engine roar and an overall, awesome ride! The black paint is such a good colour on the Bolts! We have done a few more mods, such as completely blacking the bike out, changing the number plates display, rear lights and new LEDs, but nothing too highend that we didn't already show in this video. The flash is still doing its job and the bike is just as bad ass! We highly recommend getting the ECU flashed if you install pipes and/or airfilters.

@Rein Blunt is the Bolt R-spec a fast bike? I was wondering if it's a bike where u won't have to get bored and buy another bike with a higher engine capacity. 🤔
What is a fast bike these days? I guess everyone has their own version of what is considered to be fast. The bike does have some pull to it but it’s not a sports bike, if that helps.
It is a cruise bike though and it really enjoyable to ride, especially through the wind-ey bends. We love it!

How do you go with 2 off you guys on it. Does it get uncomfortable for the passenger and most of all still have power for the two of you. Also long distance rides thanks
Hi CJ, we actually have not ridden the Bolt with a pillion before, but we have been on ride groups with other riders who have had pillions and they have been able to keep up with the rest of the group without any issues at all. The Bolts are powerful bikes and we have completed rides that run for about 4-5 hours with no issues on top speed, torque or performance. We would highly recommend the Bolt, it is an amazing motorcycle! :)
How is the power stock? Do you notice anything different after getting the intake? Looking at one of these as a potential first bike and heard the OEM intake was pretty restrictive.

The OEM intake is a large plastic cover and so yes, we would agree that it is pretty restrictive. From memory, after getting an aftermarket intake and exhaust, the only difference we noticed was the sound of hearing the air being sucked in and the crazy loud exhaust pipes but not much difference in power. The bike also made a lot of popping sounds upon deceleration. At first, the pops were welcoming, it was like "Woah, listen to that sound!" and then after a week, we realised that the popping was more annoying than "sounding cool." We sent the ECU to Yuri, the best of the best up in Queensland and he worked his magic and re-tuned it for us, tailoring it to the mods we now have on the bike. Once we got it back and connected it to the bike, it was like a whole new machine. Power increase about 15% (especially once you hit 3rd and 4th gear), the pull was much quicker on take-off and the popping stopped. The bike was overall, more responsive. We have heard that the Bolt has a lot of cool mods out there, we know as we have some on ours already, but the ECU needs a tuning with each added mod as they all run and work differently. Without the ECU tune, the bike will simply look cooler, but, from our experience, the performance was not noticeable until the ECU had been tuned.
Overall, it's a great bike and we love it! I hope this was helpful!

Remember these bikes are electronic fuel injected which means any exhaust and air intake mods will have some negative effects. Most important making the bike run leaner which will make it run hotter. Doing these mods without doing any fuel adjustments is not advisable. There are fuel mods you can do for the Bolt and you should either go all in or leave it stock.

Are you still able to use the passenger foot pegs with that exhaust? I see he had to grind alittle bit of metal off for exhaust to fit.
We had to grind a little off too in for them to fit. We have not actually tried them out though, they are more for aesthetics at this stage.
So did you reprogram the EFI for the new air cleaner and exhaust, and if so what did you use to do it?
Hey Gerald, we did send the ECU off for an overhaul/reflash and I believe that this also took into account the new air filter. The bike runs amazingly now! :)

I am not sure what a foot pack is. We had to grind some of the passenger peg in order to fit the sweeper.

Going from the rebel 500 to this... do you think you could have just started with the bolt or would that have been to big of a jump?
That is a very good question J. Falto. In Australia, you would not be able to start off on the Bolt as the engine size is too big for an "L" plate learner rider (the maximum engine size limit for a learner is 650cc). For me, when I was once a beginner (learner rider), the Rebel 500 felt like a monster truck because I had never ridden any sort of motorbike before, so really any two-wheeled engine seemed intimidating! However, after a few really good riding courses and some solid time on the road, I became more confident with the Rebel and motorbikes in general. At bike ride meetups, I would meet other awesome riders who had bigger bikes, like the Bolt and/or Harley Davidsons. Simply holding the bike upright and sitting stationary felt like I was sitting on another 'Monster Truck.' A Bolt rider once asked me if I was interested in ever purchasing a Bolt one day and I told him that I doubt it as that bike was way too big and powerful for me.
After about a year of riding the Rebel, I felt like I wanted more power, more grunt. I felt like I had outgrown the Rebel, even though it was only a year ago that I first sat on the Rebel, thinking "Holy shit, this is the monster trucks of the bike world!" After 2 years, I couldn't wait to get a bigger, more powerful bike. I watched all the CZcams clips of which bikes are better, I chatted on forums and asked lots of questions and spoke to lots of more experienced riders at bike ride meet ups. All of them agreed that a bigger bike has so many more advantages, so I took the plunge, sold the Rebel and bought a Bolt. Doubling my engine capacity, I was excited but also extremely nervous. I purchased the bike about 2 hours from where I live and as soon as I had completed all the paperwork, this 'out of nowhere,' ridiculous storm appeared and I found myself riding home on the highway doing speeds of about 40kph (in a 110kph zone), in the pouring rain, on the wet road, on a bike that was twice as powerful and about 40kgs heavier than what I was used to. I very quickly had to build my confidence, and improve my riding skills. I cannot praise enough how amazing the Bolt is to ride though, and within a few weeks, I felt in total control of the Bolt and I freaking love this bike! I also just had the ECU upgrades to a stage 3 so the engine is now running at 100% capacity and I cannot wipe the smile off my face when I open that throttle!
Would I recommend the Bolt? YES!! Absolutely!! 100%!! If you have ridden bikes in the past (or used to be a seasoned rider), and are returning to motorbike land, then yes, I would definitely recommend the Bolt and potentially even suggest that you consider getting the EUC flashed (retuned) too. If you are brand new to motorbike land, I would suggest getting a cheaper, basic bike (like a 250cc) that you can learn to ride for a year or two first and then put your hard-earned money (as good bikes are not cheap) towards upgrading to a proper, more expensive machine, like the Bolt, once you are confident and skilled enough. People make the mistake where they see the classic Harley Davidson stereotype rider and want to feel free and ride off into the sunset on a badass machine, and to that I say, like anything, "Know your limits, practice takes time." There is no need to rush, this is how accidents happen.
If you're looking at any Cruiser as long as you're strong enough to control the bike or you have good balance nothing is really going to be too powerful besides maybe some muscle Cruisers.
I purchased the Bolt as a first time rider , it's light enough to handle, but does have a bit of power. I went very easy on the throttle till I had many miles on it. Today I have 9,000 + miles and I'm glad I have the power. Not overwhelming but satisfying. Frequently have the Mrs. on board and it performs flawlessly.

what is the size and name of the original turndown slip on you had on before the vance and hines exhaust? looks like a universal one and i like the sound.
Hey James, I think the old exhaust is known as a Shorty GP Slipon Exhaust. I did have to Google this one as I could not remember the name and my search brought up a lot of short exhausts that look similar, so you might have to dig a little deeper. Starting with "Yahama Bolt Shorty GP Exhaust" should get you started. The old exhaust has a nice sound when idling, but at higher revs and sitting in lower gears, the exhaust is a bit annoying-ly loud... and not the nice kind of loud like the Bassani. For us, it sounded like a truly modified slipon and we wanted something a bit more deep sounding similar to the Harley Davidson sounds. It's all about individual preference and what you prefer. No power commander was needed for our Bolt, but I guess that was our preference. Yeah, we had to order the Sweepers (exhaust) from the USA. Cost a bit in postage as we are Australia based.

@@michaelwall4258 After grinding a bit off the side of the footpeg, it was able to fit and function as normal. Sadly, we have not actually used the pillion seat or pegs to be able to assist with your question. The pipes do heat up and I would assume that the right pillion peg would also get hot during slow movement or traffic stops, but we have not actually tested this out to make a conclusion.
What's it like for leg height my better half is thinking of an xv950 she's 5,4 and she wants get feet on ground and not tippytoe.the bike looks and sounds greaaat👍
Hey Stuart, thanks for the question and feedback. Sarah (the gorgeous girl in the video) is about 5'7 and she can put her feet flat on the floor with no issues. I would like to say that your better half would probably just be able to touch the floor but I wonder if there is a Bolt near you that your better half can do a sit test on to try it out first?
Also, if your partner does the test and can touch the floor and you decide to get the Bolt for him/her, could I suggest that you maybe look at some other exhaust pipes beside the Bassani Sweepers that we have shown in this video? The reason I say that is because I am almost 5'11 and Sarah is 5'7 and both of us end up touching the exhaust pipes at some point or another, especially in traffic when you have to put your feet down a lot or when reversing the bike and you need to use both legs/feet. Yes, the pipes sound awesome, but they also sit high up, just below the seat actually and unless you're stupid tall, you will more than likely catch your leg on the pipes at some point. And those things are hot, so when it does catch you, it burns like a mother &#@&^%!!
I hear that the Vance & Hines exhausts sound pretty good and they sit much lower, more towards the bottom of the bike which could be better suited for shorter folks. If your partner is 5'4, there is a good chance of him/her also catching their leg on that bloody hot pipe and we wouldn't want that! You can always do a search on CZcams for "The Best Bolt Exhausts" and hear what other peoples different exhausts sound like. So, just food for thought for you.

They really are amazing bikes, reliable, powerful and it sounds like there are lots of extras on it which is not cheap. I know because we have spent about so much money on mods and accessories, all totally worth it though.

@@reinblunt hi Rein thought I'd let ya know the outcome of our bike search .First the one we were gonna get delivered didn't happen then better half decided it was the xvracer model she wanted so search started again found a lovely ice blue one not twenty miles from us went had test ride lovely looking bike mint condition some xtras agreed price better half had her doubts about seller and sure as he emailed next evening to pull out of deal long story to that one.so it now looks like we've found another from dealers in North East Scotland they're gonna bring it half way to another one of there outlets plus I got 300 gbp knocked off of asking price it's a 2018 racer 3000 miles .even got into a bid on ebay for almost new vance+hines competition exhaust so here's hoping it's the one safe riding keep it in between the hedges 👍✌🏴🏍🏍🏍

Does the tach work well? I've heard aftermarket ones don't have real time updates
Thanks for the question Michael. In our experience, the tach works well. We have had some issue with the engine light turning after installing the tach and then again after installing a new LED and blowing a fuse in the process. The way we fixed this was by reconnecting the old tach and noticing no engine light came on with the old one and then reconnecting the new one and noticing the engine light disappearing. We also notice that the temperature is set higher than it should be. We can see that it says it is running about 50 degrees higher (in Celcius) than what the bike is actually on but other than that, the tach works great! We love it!
@@reinblunt did you tune the bike after the exhaust? If not, your bike will be running leaner causing the higher temps.
@@cameronlafond820 We sure did Cameron! The bike runs about 20% better too than even before putting any accessories on them! I highly recommend Yuri (if you’re in Australia) to do your retune! 👍🏻

Yes, we needed a retune for sure after adding these accessories. We used the one true re-tuner here in Australia, Yuri! Highly recommended! The bike is so much more alive and responsive now, we absolutely love it! :)
How's the heat on your thigh or leg when you installed the bassani?
We pretty much avoid using the Bolt for any traffic rides as the pipe gets a bit too hot for our liking. So we go on more longer, group rides which are way better. As long as we're moving and not stationary, it is a really great exhaust! :)
Do you burn your leg at all with the exhaust being that high up?
Yeah, sometimes. It’s a price to pay for badass pipes!
How is this bike with taller people like 6feet 2"?
I am about 2 feet short of 6 foot and I sit comfortably on the bike. I have heard of taller folks having some issues where their right knee sits unevenly because the air filter sticks out, but there are plenty of better aftermarket air filters that do a better job than the stock one and are not in the way. Also, if you get the Bassani exhaust, the same as what we have, then you will have that height advantage with more legroom to steer clear of it. Best of luck with it all Tom.
Won't passengers melt their shoes because the pegs are directly under the exhaust tip?
That is possible @VALLESSARIUS although as we have not tried this ourselves, we are not sure what would happen there. We have ever only had 1 rider on this beauty.
@@reinblunt I've heard that you cannot have the passenger pegs with the Bassani exhaust. I was surprised to see it in the video here.

That is a great question Harold! We first had a 400cc no name brand and a Honda Rebel 500cc to start off. As new riders, the Bolt would have been way too big and way too scary to start off on as a first bike. In Australia, first time riders cannot ride anything bigger than a 650cc for the first year or two anyway. We spent that time on the smaller bikes to learn and build our confidence and then moved up the Bolt after these first few years of riding. I guess it depends on your rider ability, confidence level and strength. Best of luck in your decision though, thank you for the support and ride safe.

Yup, she had the ECU sent off for a full retune and the bike is now running about 20% faster than before.
So I'm going to buy a yamaha bolt for my first bike and I was wondering with the sweeper exhaust can you still have a passenger? I don't want to burn my girlfriends leg😂 awesome bike btw!
Get a Bolt for sure, they really are amazing bikes to ride! The Sweeper gets really hot though @SS Squatch, so while it sounds super nice, the heat that comes off it is the downfall. I am not sure I would recommend the Sweeper if you plan on carrying a passenger too. I would recommend something like the V&H brands which sit much lower to the bottom of the bike and are more heat-free than something from the Bassani brand.
Just keep the same exhaust, it sounds sweet already, long rides annoying that loud.
