    The thick, heavy sound of the double bass with the other instruments is just mesmerizing 🤤

    Wonderful playing of Dvorak at his masterful best - and it shows that the double bass should be taken seriously as a chamber music instrument!

    Why is this String Quintet “No. 2?” As far as I know, the only other string quintet by Dvorak is the Viola Quintet in E-flat, but that one dates from 1894. Usually n a work is renumbered, it is numbered based on its opus number (if there is one) or its year of composition. So this quintet should be No. 1.

    • @olivleonardo
      @olivleonardo Před 3 lety +3

      Indeed, this is the only one for double bass (from 1875). But you have String Quintet No. 1 Op. 1 (1861) and No. 3 Op. 97 "American" (1893).

    • @adriepram
      @adriepram Před 3 lety

      @Leonardo T. Oliveira is correct. Dvorak's String Quintet no. 1 in A minor is dated 1861. Dvorak's String Quintet no. 3 in E-flat is also what you call "Viola Quintet"/"American", dated 1893.

      In classical music 4 string basses have an extension on the lowest string that enables them to simulate the fifth string when the clamp is released.

    It is active, - too active. It is stressed. Every single person here - except the bass player - is driven, as it is obviously normal, nowadays. Look at their faces! Highest energy is not always best energy.
