    Tchaikovsky's chamber production is small - he left us the three quartets, the piano trio and this magnificent sextet.
    Without any demerit from the other chamber works, this is clearly the work of this type in which he is most comfortable.
    The musical speech is extremely coherent and the beauty is unparalleled.
    The performance is superb! Bravo!

    Wow what a cello section! Gabetta and Siranossian are two of the greatest cellists on the planet right and they both play with such unbridled joy. That famous cello unison passage in the third movement just explodes.
    If you love Souvenir, you should also check out another terrific live performance on CZcams with Janine Janssen and friends. They're both wonderful and it's fun to compare the interpretive differences.

    3:27 - 3:40 The same phrase is repeated, first played by the viola and immediately followed by the first violin. The two play with a different kind of bowing, making the phrasing completely different from each other.
    I believe that chamber music involves uniting ideas in order to achieve a single musical concept. I don't see nor hear this here, just good performers who get together a couple of days before to play a gig.

    • @hansjuergenkohlhaas871
      @hansjuergenkohlhaas871 Před rokem +2

      The phrasing of the two here ensures a lovely dialogue, imo.

    • @mosaiques23
      @mosaiques23 Před rokem

      @@hansjuergenkohlhaas871 Look, if you play a stringed instrument, the general rule when you're doing chamber music, even if you're getting together for the first time and there's little time (as I think is the case), is to agree on the bowing. It's an essential job and it has to be done. That doesn't even happen here.
      I'm sure that individually they are very good musicians, but the criticism is about working together... In fact, there is no working together here.

    • @NotSilent_
      @NotSilent_ Před rokem +3

      That's such weird criticism lmao. This is a music festival, so there is a lot of music played in a fairly short amount of time. These are people coming together to make music. These musicians aren't touring together. Could you honestly tell their bowings were different just by listening? Your criticism has such an elitist attitude and it turns people away from enjoying this music.

    • @mosaiques23
      @mosaiques23 Před rokem

      @@NotSilent_Oh boy... I can't believe I have to explain this.
      Of course I can hear the difference when played with different bowings, I'm not making a visual criticism. I'm a musician and I know the business.
      The first thing you do when rehearsing a piece like this is agree with the bowings. Ask any other musician if you don't believe me.
      The criticism that I make is precisely in defense of the audience that, after having paid for a ticket (probably quite expensive), does not deserve that musicians (no matter how good they are), go on stage without even having agreed on the bowings. It's just not professional. I know what I'm talking about.
      Look, I would love for the audience not to be interested in these things, it would make my job a lot easier, but it doesn't work like that.
      Would you like to see an orchestra where the string players each play the bowing that comes to mind?

    • @robertmanno5749
      @robertmanno5749 Před rokem +2

      I find the different bowing much more interesting, so that the repeat has a different character. To keep it the same is not imaginative.
