In a 34-minute interview to Karan Thapar for The Wire, Ginza Vualzong, said the Home Minister has asked ITLF to find a different site for the mass burials they plan because the original site they have chosen is in the conflict zone. As a sweetener, Mr. Vualzong said the Home Minister has offered to handover the original site to the Kuki-Zo community to use for public utility purposes or as a memorial park. Mr. Vualzong said that he believes there’s a “50:50 chance” the Kuki community will agree. ITLF will now consult them. He says they will communicate their answer to the Home Minister in a week.

Interesting discussion. However, I am bit disappointed that Karan did not dig deeper on why the ITLF is opposed to the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur. Kukis says that there are only a few illegal immigrants and this would prove their claims. Even Mizoram has already initiated a NRC-Style Bill so why are they opposed to it in Manipur?

Only PR can bring back peace and normalcy and is the need of the hour. But the Centre is reluctant to impose PR, for they know that BJP leaders will be out of power if PR is imposed. The leaders are playing politics over this crisis.

It was always when the tribals were interviewed that there is no tutu-menmen and altu-faltu, they stick to the point and answered to as required.
This is one common character of KukiZo tribals that meiteis would not be able to adopt.
Moreover, this character of the tribals were often suppressed by meiteis where numerous examples can be seen since the violence started....

When it comes to india, meiteis are also minorities. For kukis, they still have a whole state called mizoram and also they reside in manipur, Bangladesh n Myanmar in large number. The kuki zo people has two state in Myanmar. Do you know that? But, meiteis we reside only in a small part of manipur (less than 10 percent of manipurs land). So, we the meiteis are the real minority in India as well as in this world when we compare with other tribes. Nagas also has nagaland, a state. That is the reason we are demanding ST. Meiteis really need protection.

Just some few questions as I have been following your discussions on Manipur since the beginning.
Compared to the last interview with a Meitei leader, your approach towards this one seems quite different
1. When a Kuki Zo leader said he represents the Tribal forum, but no Naga organization is a part of it, you didn't ask anything further meanwhile when the guest in the last interview said they represent the whole state and also told you that it was because of the conflict that some Kuki groups detached themselves, you keep on telling him that they cannot represent Manipur.
2. When the other party said Assam Rifles are creating problems and FIR is being filed, you keep on insisting for the proof to be sent to you while in this interview, you just keep on agreeing that the State force is being biased without asking for proof.
3. When the guest Sir said they do not like NRC, as a journalist, I think it is very important for you to ask why they do not like NRC, but again you skipped that part and I feel it is very important to bring out this matter to the people apart from those who are protesting against NRC because the people also need to acknowledge the problem.
And also, there are many more points.
This interview, I feel is more of swift going apart and very different from other interviews as it avoided all the critical questions and also sounds more like instigation for example, how you called the community attackers very conveniently. Sir, I think Manipur is already burning and I think we have to be very sensitive as outsiders.
may Manipur be healed and justice be prevailed.
