@@LeilaGharani Greek here Leila. Actually the translation is not 100% accurate. It translated the "It's great that you stay up to date" as "It's great to stay up to date". It gave the word "να", instead of the correct "που". This changes the meaning from actually "targeting" the audience, to a more generic form, an observation you'd say. Nevertheless, knowing that Greek is not the easiest language on the planet, this is still a big step for 365. Cheers and thanks!

Great video. In your last formula, I had an idea that Instead of Xlookup and checking against other ranges, you could have used the switch function, that way you don't need the languages and codes in other cells. But that would probably only be beneficial when you only have a handful of languages. Xlookup would probably work better if you want to have an updateable language list.

The question I was asking myself was.... "What if I don't know what source language is?"
The text I will translate is in A1, C3 has the language I want the formula to translate, and sheet2 b2:b10 has the table of languages.
The answer I came up with is this:
    =TRANSLATE($A21,DETECTLANGUAGE($A21),XLOOKUP(C$3,Sheet2!$A$2:$A$10,Sheet2!$B$2:$B$10))

There are three (3) points I will ask you about. My version of Office is the latest version 2024:
    1- How do I get a “translate”? She doesn't exist 😮
2- Also, the new “Check Box” does not exist 🤔
3- In the latest update to Office, an icon disappeared. This icon is at the top next to Exit, which collapses the top menus to enlarge the workspace. It has three options and looks like an arrow, as I remember. It is very important. Why did it disappear? ✨
    ................................................................................................
There is another topic regarding delaying the function. I asked you about it and you answered that by using VBA, I wanted to do without VBA. I wish this task existed in Excel without Vba 🤩🤗

It seems as if in a lot of the formulas in this video, as shown on the screen, there are unnecessary space-characters before and after commas (where the comma is a delimiter between arguments of a function). Again, what SHOULD happen if such a Cell-Entry is attempted is that Excel should balk, some kind of error-message or error-result in the Cell. The reason this is so important is a colleague of mine who lost half a day's work trying to work with text formulas. What she SHOULD have typed was something in the pattern of
    =SUBSTITUTE(A4,"Buyer",D4)
to replace the word "Buyer" in a sentence in Cell A4 with the word in Cell D4. But Excel's toleration of errant space-characters had left her with some sort of vague sensibility or impression (not probably the most conscious of thoughts) that the commas that are used as delimiters are like the U.S. English commas in "red, and white, and blue". They're not. One must WISH that Excel had used some other character as a delimiter, such as the pipe ("|"). Then this confusion wouldn't have been created, and she'd have typed
    =SUBSTITUTE(A4|"Buyer"|D4)
correctly the first time. But because of the U.S. way of doing punctuation in English, she kept on trying things like
    =SUBSTITUTE(A4,"Buyer,"D4)
in the belief that U.S. English grammar requires the comma to go INSIDE the quote-mark. Since the text "Buyer," (ending in a comma) didn't OCCUR in Cell A4, and since the SUBSTITUTE function doesn't give any indication of anything awry (nor should it) if the sought-for text isn't found in the text in question, all of her SUBSTITUTE-formula Cells contained the exact text as the Cell they were working on. And she didn't notice it until hours later. Then she got a bit frantic and thought the failure was owing to missing space-characters (which would also be required in English grammar), so, in vain she tried correcting to
    =SUBSTITUTE(A4,"Buyer," D4)
    and
    =SUBSTITUTE(A4,"Buyer, " D4)
and other combinations of things that didn't work. If Excel had been intolerant of confusing commas-as-delimeters with commas-in-English-grammar, and therefore intolerant of any notion that such commas need space-characters, she'd never have gone down the wrong road of unconsciously believing that the two should work the same way with respect to quote-marks that end literal text, and she wouldn't have had to scramble with the deadline and rush the fix once I arrived with the explanation.

I fix this issue by using text function for example =TRANSLATE(TEXT($S$6,"dd mmm yyyy"),"en","ar") I assume S6 = 1-Jul-2024
conclusions translate function lead to mute format text

=A1&A2 if you don't want any separator symbols between the text and number.
Otherwise: =A1&" "&A2 if you want a space between the text and number.
If you want any other separator then simply put any symbol you want between quotations.

With machine translation, there is of course the risk of hidden errors, but compared to having to maintain multiple sets of the same text, the benefits probably outweigh the downside.

I think so too. Especially if you need to maintain instructions in a couple of languages.

A very useful case. Does excel need Internet access to translate?

    • @LeilaGharani
      @LeilaGharani  Před měsícem

Yes, it's using Microsoft translation services.

Makes another bit of the add-in I wrote to use Azure Translation in formulae redundant :(
