Anyone saying Emma is wrong for being quiet is probably someone who doesn't think before they act. She is sitting there, listening, and not listening to respond, she is listening to comprehend and understand. She's the youngest in the room and i think she is showing maturity and taking the opportunity to listen, understand and learn from these women. Great interview, loved it so much.

I agree. It takes just as much strength to actively listen and absorb information as it does to speak your opinion. Plus, Ellen specifically is quite a bit older than Emma and was saying very powerful things, and I believe Emma was respecting that and learning. At least I hope so.

That's because she started using that power she has inside and telling the writers she wanted Meredith to be a stronger woman and less of a cliche.
You can see the change in her character through the seasons, and that's all thanks to Ellen making Meredith just as badass as she is. A more realistic woman.
Unfortunately, she ended up leaving because the writers couldn't let go of the "will she?" "won't she?" of her love interests, and she just wanted Meredith to be able to have a happy life. But that's not the drama that gets the ratings, according to the producers. They don't want a medical drama anymore. They want a romantic drama, and that's where they focus now.
I respect emma for sitting back and listening and learning and then talking about how she feels, shes understanding, there r some people who talk about things they know nothing about, sometimes it's ok to sit back and listen it's what a lot of people dont do these days important.

I love that Ellen mentions the crew. Because they're not on screen, they're often overlooked, but everything flows both ways, behind the scenes to before the scenes. People want to get into the behind the scenes as well but can't. Love that she looks in an area that's often overlooked. Same as her concern for her stylist of 12 years. Crew members are often overworked and underpaid because they're more "dispensable."

yep , I appreciated her pointing that out as well . the only reason I know about the lack of diversity behind the scenes is because I live in Los Angeles and have friends that work in the entertainment industry . for example , a friend of mine works in wardrobe for one of the Lifetime soaps & told me how she'll be the ONLY person of color on set , out of everyone from behind the scenes to on-camera . I've heard similar stories from other friends that have worked on set as well . She hears how insecure the other actresses are to voice their complaints as to not come off as difficult and not to mention she is the mother of 2 visibly black children and it must be heartbreaking knowing that they won't be afforded the same privileges as you for something as arbitrary as skin colour.

I've just started watching roundtable discussions and you can tell that the company is holding down the actors down with saying bad words, including the names of big corporations, and what not, but when compared to this interview I see that they were given lots of room and privileges to open their thoughts and ideas completely instead of thinking about if it's okay to say or not. I really am looking forward to new videos on this channel it really seems genuinely determined to give people a place to say what they truly believe!

serpentinefireball yes this should have been a five person panel with an Asian woman or other minority not currently represented. I think Emma on this panel is important addition *because* she didn’t say much. We tell people to listen and learn she clearly is a great example of doing just that. She engages when she has something to add from her experience, but in areas she’s ignorant too she listens. And hopefully as she listens and learns she can become more vocal like Ellen is.

So let me break down what I meant (not because I owe you or anyone an explanation but I have the time) : quit the job I have now sooner rather than later and start somewhere on my own. I have always been fond of cinema and have done a couple projects here and there but never on something I get to call my own. So definitely not for the wrong reasons. This isn't something I thought of doing just now after this video... And even if that were the case I mean who cares ? Lol. People can pick the careers they want.

@Kongo Bongo don't call a viewpoint bullshit just because you don't agree with it. Your viewpoint doesn't invalidate theirs just as theirs doesn't invalidate yours. Listening and taking in what others have to say and keeping it in mind while you walk around the world is what is going to make the world a better place (which is what most of us want). If it doesn't change your viewpoint oh well no big deal. Now you know the other side of the argument more in depth (which is never a negative).
That was excellent! Thank you, especially to Ellen for calling out the current interview she's in and having them making it more diverse. This was one of the best realest interviews I've seen on this topic + they were all dressed so well, and looked amazing.

People are bashing Emma for not speaking up, but I think she did great. She represented the younger generation that is here to learn and understand what others have to endure and as a young white woman she listened and understood, whether it was intentional or not, her space. Women of color were talking about their experiences and Ellen was offering ways to help as a white woman, so Emma, who seemed to really be taking in all of the information was doing a beautiful job as she was being taught how she could possibly help others in the future. I loved this so much. They are all great examples of women I just wished there was a fifth woman who was Asian on this panel!

HOLY CRAP. I am so in awe of this interview & these women. This even put a knot in my throat. Knowing I get paid less than my male co workers because I'm a hispanic women but do the exact SAME work. I felt what Gina said "Because I think I first went through the appreciation and grattitude for being here.. stage." Asking for a raise it challenging. And again if they say no it's like they said if I don't keep it someone else will take it. So us women and men really have to stand up for each other.
I hear you. This made me SO glad I stepped up this year and started asking for what I was worth. Hardest thing in the world to do though, especially as a freelancer!

This is my favorite interview I've ever watched. These women inspire me to fight for a day when I can walk into a lab (planning to pursue a degree in molecular/developmental biology) to collaborate with a truly diverse group of people and be confident that everyone is being paid equally

I work in a grocery store and I've been told "if you can't work in the "department" we can find another who will" "feel lucky that your working for this company, you still have a job" "there is team work" yet management doesn't want us to have teamwork. This was the most edifying video I have seen yet. All the things you ladies spoke about is real. I have noticed the same thing actually happenes to everyone on~line. Because when you think about it... being on line for those of us who don't act is pretty much the same thing. Just reduced down a bit. It is all fear based actions; or lack of action because of fear. And though fear has always existed we were not like this, 15 years a go. And so working backwards my guess would be that shaming others is why. Right I mean if we had no fear being shamed we would be who we really are... instead of who we want to be. Millions of people not being themselves because of fear. Edifying in deed.
