I always thought Umbreon was more of a "Jackal" then anything. And there is a certain Hindu goddess that is highly associated with Jackals, and that is Dakini. More specifically, the *black jackal*. Also Dakini is an evil goddess. She literally goes around and sucking people's your life essence. In Japan, Dakini is called "Dakiniten", and instead of being associated with black jackals she is associated with kitsune, foxes. And you know who is the most famous evil kitsune? Tamamo no Mae. And to make a long story short, Tamamo no Mae gets killed and her corpse turns into an evil poison gas spewing rock called 殺生石 (Sesshouseki). It killed a lot of people, and a traveling buddhist sealed the poison rock. I won't say that Umbreon didn't take some inspiration from the Ushi-Oni, but I think it's far more likely that Umbreon took inspiration from Dakini and Tamamo no Mae.

Never really interpreted Dark as evil. More as channelling energy through emotions. Kinda figured there was a trinity to Dark (emotion), Fighting (body), Psychic (mind). Letting your emotions get the better of you is considered taboo in most cultures, so I could see the evil typing, but Umbreon is also an Eevee. It's noted that Eevee is one of the pokemon that are easiest to get along with, so probably why it kinda sucks as a Dark type. While most use powerful emotions like rage, jealousy and hate, most Eevees don't get shown as angry death beasts, so maybe it's running off positive emotions, and thus not having as much affinity to dark as most others. Like Spiritomb. A literal being of hate and rage.

I remember drawing a ghost eeveelution based off Umbreon when I was like 10 or 12. It was shaped like Umbreon but purple, with blue ghostly rings like blue ghost fire or shiny Umbreon's rings, but the rings flickered like they were on fire. It had a more fox like tail, with the white tip was again ghostly blue and flickering as if on fire, had its legs separated and floating above its feet and more blue flames coming from the ankles where the legs would connect. I also drew another picture where the rings separated and were being thrown like weapons from its body, a new move exclusive and signature to it, maybe learned by other ghosts like chandelure so not exclusive, agony rings functions like frustration but more damage, so you want to keep friendship low, because even if you feel sorry for it, being around it invokes fear because it doesn't trust you anymore. To evolve it you needed to build friendship then drop it back down to 0... I wanted to emphasize how ghostly and tragic this eevee was, even though I was a kid.
I also made a steel one that was a combination in appearance as Jolteon and Vaporeon, spikes like Jolt but the slenderness of Vapor, evolves with metal coat while leveling instead of trading, but to make up for that needs high friendship, the highest because Shadeon needed the lowest, it was stalwart, resolute, adamant ready to protect its trainer at any cost with its life like a knight. Also a dragon one in high school... though oddly enough, despite being the most recent, I don't remember what it looks like.

I think the one thing I don’t like about Umbreon is how it has an interesting amount of moves that benefits its stats but the most seen or utilized move set revolves around stalling. I’d like to see it get a new unique move that makes use of its dex entry, a dark type move that can poison the opponent if it makes physical contact, but most of what I’ve experienced was toxic, moonlight, protect, taunt, curse, calm mind, baton pass, and wish.

    • @hi-i-am-atan

i mean, yeah? those are the moves that benefit its stats, given it has 60s in its offensive stats and speed and twice that in its defenses. you're not exactly gonna be accomplishing much direct offense with that sort of stat spread, but it's perfect for walling and utility
unless you mean "benefit its stats" by _buffing_ them, but ... it doesn't. it gets curse, work up, and focus energy, and has never once had access to calm mind. that's a pretty anemic spread of buffing moves, and none of them are particularly great on it. i mean, i suppose curse ain't bad for a physical set, but its strongest physical stab is foul play, which, uh, yeah, don't really need to commit your own stats to make use of that

They were likely a little smaller IRL, and had feathers (basically a large killer turkey). Now don’t even get me started on the Tyrannosaurus Rex!
Unfortunately, Hollywood feels the need to ruin history for a good films. Now, inaccurate Velociraptors and T-Rex’s have gotten into the public eye and been accepted as fact over fiction.

      @PansyPops Před 2 lety

@@bestbrogamer6993 another issue is that they’re always shown to be predators. Recently, people are believing that T-Rex’s were more like vultures than anything; a scavenger. This is a more recent thought, and just a theory at that, so I’ll give them a pass on it. No feathers though? It’s mildly annoying, but I have to put up with it because featherless dinosaurs are all people think of these days. For now, I can only dream of seeing a feathery thunder lizard on the big screen.
Now that I think of it, Jurassic Park can probably get away with it. They said they mixed frog DNA to fill in the blanks, which also allowed them to change gender. Chances are they were meant to be feathered (in film lore), but because of missing DNA strands, they were unable to add in the correct DNA so became scaly from the use of substitutions.
Edit: I’m not an expert or anything on dinosaurs or palaeontology, I just have a random section of my brain dedicated to Dino facts I’ll probably never use, like how T-Rex’s would be unable to run more than 27 mph else their legs would break.

I had an . . . idea for how we might get more Eeveelutions. Currently, there are 9 Eeveelutions (including Eevee), and 18 Types. Exactly half. So, what if it were possible that we might get a regional variant of Eevee and then every single Eeveelution became a new element. It's shaky, and the matchups aren't perfect, but what I've got so far is:
Eevee -> Fighting Type, gives it a reason for all the changes, Eevees in the region are tougher, more scrappy, and thus that extra aggression comes through in its evolutions.
Vaporeon -> Dragon Type, mostly because its the one that looks like it would transfer to Dragon Type best. Maybe it became a Leviathan or Sea Dragon or something.
Jolteon -> Ground Type, that's the best I got. They were the odd ones out. Maybe there's some connection with grounding or something, but it's weak.
Flareon -> Rock Type, the idea being the fire upgraded to lava, and then the lava hardened, making it rock.
Espeon -> Ghost Type, probably one of those "ascended to a higher plane of existence" kind of things.
Umbreon -> Poison Type, I was torn between that or Bug (with the idea that it got so used to living in the dark, it developed features of the bugs that lived around it), but this video and you bringing up its origins convinced me it would work as Poison on a thematic level.
Leafeon -> Bug Type, the other one vying between Poison or Bug. Poison would have been it developed poisonous defenses in its leaves, while Bug would be something like, it got infested with bugs that ate away its leaves and now it has bugs living inside and on it.
Glaceon -> Steel Type, no reason. Glaceon would just look good with steel in the ice patches.
Sylveon -> Flying Type, as a nod to what many thought it might be before Fairy type was revealed? Maybe the bows get fully flourished out to wings?
It's . . . not great, but I thought it might be worth thinking about.

If Umbreon was originally intended to evolve via a "poison" stone, then maybe that was going to be a reference to the Sesshoseki, "Killing Stone," the now-broken rock that Japanese folklore holds was used to seal away the evil fox spirit Tamamo-no-Mae. The rock is located in a region of Japan were subterranean geological activity often allows toxic fumes to leak out at the surface, and the people in the region believed the air was being poisoned by Tamamo-no-Mae, lashing out from within the stone she'd been imprisoned in. The Sesshoseki has the association with poison, obviously, but given Tamamo-no-Mae is one of the most high-profile -evil- foxes in Japanese folklore, where foxes were often more benevolent than in China or Korea, it works post-type-change, too. Also works as a counterpoint to Espeon, with Tamamo-no-Mae being the kyuubi-no-kitsune to Espeon's nekomata
