  • This video is part of my airbrush review series, and today I am reviewing the Iwata Revolution HP-CR. The revolution has a large nozzle size at .5 and has fantastic control and response. Within this review I'll go over all the data I'd want to know before buying an airbrush including spray characteristics, air speed, and controllability. Thanks for watching.

    Iwata should hire you to do their videos. One of the best overview videos I've seen. Clear, concise and all the detailed information I needed.👏
    Thank you. 🙏YL

    Amazing review Mark! Like all you've done so far, very objective showing the real pros and cons and I especially love the air flow speed measurement.
    There's a version with 0.3mm nozzle/needle set (called CR3) I wonder if the air speed would be the same....

      thanks Jose. You're right! I didn't know that one existed. I just assumed that it was the same as the CR. I appreciate it man. will have to pick that up to review someday too.

    These airbrush reviews are really helping me narrow down my choice of airbrush’s. I won’t be attempting any beautiful portraits however, miniatures/3d resin prints and dioramas along with model crafting. Soas if now the micron takumi has my pick. Thanks for all your content🙏🏻🙏🏻

    Another great review! I picked one of these up on my local marketplace for $125 CD with a compressor. They seem to be quite popular with makeup artists but it seems the true masters can use them anywhere.👍🏼

    Okay. So, Thanks for the review. Wish I'd found this when a friend was asking about the Revolution (he got it anyway, and I was just never sure how good it really was, but I do now).
    But, apart from that, that is some excellent work you're doing!

    It seems like most people don't know thus but the revolution cr3 comes with .3 needle nozzle setup. I didn't want to buy a eclipse but neo seemed the same as a sparmax. In the end I went with a badger krome that time but it's was available at spraygunner.

    I actually thought it was useful to see the spray cone, it gave a good idea of the flooding potential of the airbrush. You can always go thin, but when you go wide a huge proportion of the spray cone can become overspray.
    Scale Model Workshop has a great tutorial on this.

    Thanks for the reviews. You mentioned not including the spray angle of brushes going forward - I actually think it is a helpful metric. When painting miniatures (40k), I can't always get my brush close to the surface due to the posing of limbs etc. I'd be curious to know what the spray angle of this brush is, I own one for priming/varnishing and would like to compare it the spray angles offered by the various detail brushes you've reviewed.

    I've used the Revolution bottle feed for over 15 years now and I would say the only issue is the thread tolerance for the tip goes bad and you can't re-tap the thread. Also it's pretty easy to over tighten the tip to the point where it breaks off and its a little difficult taking fix. My buddy dropped his gun while changing the tip and of course it fell directly on the front and he couldn't twist the tip on anymore because it was bent. The issue with the tip thread tolerance should only happen after years of use and its simply because tips break and need to be replaced. I used my Revolutions for over 15 years so I would say they served me well. I'm a T-shirt airbrush artist running my business as a vendor at a local amusement park so my guns got used daily for years. Its an amazing gun but I would say go with an eclipse to eliminate the tip issue. Love your videos!

    I’m late to the party but I’m hesitant between this one and the Patriot 105. I’m painting miniatures and I’m starting to feel like my cheap airbrush is starting to limit the possibility a little bit.
    What would you suggest?

    • @Johnnybomb1

      The Iwata Revolution, far and away. The NEO isn't bad, but it's definitely not to the same level of build quality as the Revolution. NEO isn't made by Iwata, by the way it's simply backed by Iwata.

    I am new to airbrushing, and purchased a Revolution CR3 (0.3mm needle) 2nd-hand. I am spraying pre-thinned (for airbrushing) urethane paint. I even tried to thin it a little more thinking it was too think. My issue is the spray coverage - with the tip being 3-4 inches from the surface, I can barely see paint getting laid done (requires holding position in the same area to see much). To get a more 'defined' (visible) layering of paint (not wet look), have have to spray from about 2 inches away and then the width of the spray is about a 1/4 of an inch - if that. The airbrush was used, but very little before purchase. I purchased a new needle as there was a slight bend on the original. The airbrush is thoroughly cleaned. I have tried dropping PSI from 30 down to about 20 (paint manufacturer recommends 15 - 40 PSI). Thought or tips? I watched many airbrushing videos with many different brushes, and everyone else seems to be able to put loads more paint down with each stroke. I am even pulling back all the way for max paint. Any tips or suggestions?

    • @BoiseBryan
      @BoiseBryan Před 8 měsíci +1

      Water based paint? Is it partially clogged? Try even more thinner. Check the front nozzle cap for air leaks with soapy water. Keep experimenting with different pressures and paint thickness. Check the nozzle for damage. Youll get it eventually! Learning a new skill is half the fun.

    • @jay26cee
      @jay26cee Před 8 měsíci

      @@BoiseBryan Thanks. It is specifically pre-thinned oil based for airbrushing. I tried to thin it even more (it is pretty viscous). Doesn't make any difference. I will look at getting a new nozzle as this is the only thing I can think of. No air leaks either. I also tried radically dropping PSI down from 35 to 20 thinking maybe too much atomisation.

    • @BoiseBryan
      @BoiseBryan Před 8 měsíci

      Can it spray just straight thinner at all? Is the needle moving? Nozzles are really expensive and fragile should only be touched if all else fails, unless the nozzle is damaged. @@jay26cee
