    Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture. With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

    Not sure how many years I have been watching this channel, but every year, watching Zach and his dad work together give me joy. My dad and I never farmed, but we cut a lot of firewood. We spent so many hours cutting wood together, we didn’t even have to talk, just gestures and looks we know what needed to be done. That’s how I see Zach and his dad working, and I love it. Onyx will likely be next up in the process! Keep it going Zach, our country exists in large part for families like yours!

    I never thought about a farm being broken up into wide spread fields. I always pictured a farm as a HUGH single plot of land. This is a fascinating channel. It really makes me appreciate farmers. I will never be impatient if caught behind farm equipment on the road. I will slow down & put my 4-ways on and do everything I can to help and for the farmers safety. The whole country has been having extreme weather. We’ve had 57 tornadoes so far this year in South Carolina, which is more than what we normally get in 12 months. Back towards the beginning of April we had an outbreak of 15 tornadoes in 2 days which ended up killing 3 people. The last time we had a deadly tornado was 2004. The tornadoes in our state are normally EF0s or EF1s that cause no damage but that storm made EF2s and EF3s.

    I learned long ago not to fight Dandelions. They are a friend and seem to love compacted soil. Their big long tap root will aerate and break up the soil and then they will fade away after the soil gets loosened. Also pull up calcium for other plants without as deep a root. Works wonders in orchards to uncompact from picking.

    Love your style in all your videos! Informative, funny, sarcastic and you don't just show the best parts of the work all of you do. It's hard work but I love watching the details! If you need a farmhand from California with exactly zero experience, let me know!

    I wonder if JD will be redesigning those ExactEmerge row units to have some better quality sensors? Or maybe it's an electrical issue with the voltage supply to the sensor? Possibly a wire harness issue? 🤔🤔🤔
    Cannot imagine trying to debug this stuff while trying to get 1000 acres planted while having limited weather windows. Hopefully the kinks get worked out and soybeans goes smoother.

    Don’t worry JD is adding sensors to detect when those gage wheel tensioners get loose. 2 per 👍🏻

    Does it ever cause a problem when you take the planter apart and drop a bunch of seeds? I've always wondered that when you do that with seeds or even fertilizer. Also, peanut butter M&M's are pretty darn good too.

    I glad you’re finally knocking some acres out. Hopefully the weather will hold out and your planter doesn’t have anymore problems than it’s having right now. You can plant a lot of acres in a short time with that massive planter when it’s working correctly.

    I watched the weather system this past holiday weekend that ripped through you, Larson and Sonny farms area's. You 3 were along that line of low pressure. Strong thunderstorms, high winds, hail and the possibility of tornados for 3 days straight. Rough spring but it appears your weather from here on out will average back to normal. Best wishes on a tough Spring planting

    Sensor issues aren't so bad when you know to ignore them. I mean that thing also went through a tornado, so I think it being a little wonky is okay.

    • @ryanfranck5494

      Until one doesn't let you do anything. Had a hydraulic oil extremely low sensor go bad and wouldn't let me do anything until I unplugged it lol.. but you still have flashing stop machine NOW lights flashing at you

    • @JHruby
      @JHruby Před 2 lety +3

      Yes the problem is the sensor issues that shut down the planter and won't let you do anything. Technology is great. When it works.

    Wow! 472 acres in one day! Sweet! That's the beautiful thing of having large fields! Around here our largest single farm is 60 acres! Lol and of course you're pulling a house of a planter! We spend the majority of our time moving from field to field! But man! Oh how we need some rain in this part of NC! It's dry as a bone! We just got thru planting peanuts and almost had to stop because of no moisture! Smh Glad yall fellas got on a roll and yet praying for recovery from the tornado!

    Zach with the air being more dense at night puts drag on the planter is why you slow down at night. Not to mention the forces that the lights are pushing against the planter. Man do i have a head ache from when we fell coming into the field off the road. And i have a weird sweaty foot smell in my nasal passages. It’s just one of them days i guess.
