Cicero's reasoning on the nature of the gods existing comes across as an ancient version of the "god of the gaps." I also noticed how there are these presuppositions of "superior/inferior" going on in the text.

I’m usually not a big fan of stoicism-or Romans for that matter who seem more like lawyers/bureaucrats playing philosophy than philosophers themselves-but this is a pretty legit and rational argument for God(s).
I always new inside that organized religion was based on Man creating God in his image. Amazing reading

If humans can become wise, how does it follow that either the universe must always be wise or it can never be wise.

if gods (superior to man) do not exist, what can there be in the universe superior to man, for he alone possesses reason, which is the most excellent thing that can exist. But for any human being to think that there is nothing in the world superior to himself would be an insane piece of arrogance. therefore there is something superior to man.

whence did intelligence, wisdom come from? Beyond question, nothing exists amongst all things that is superior to the whole world. Nothing superior to it does not exist, but cannot even be conceived. (tech still has to use nature so not conceived independently?)

Zeno - a running river escape pollution while enclosed pool sullied
flowing stream of eloquence sweeps aside the censures of criticism whereas as a syllogistic/closely reasoned argument defends at difficulty.
so that what has reason is superior to non-reason, but the world trumps reason because (Zeno used to do this). world has faculty of reason, wise, happy, eternal (more than human reason) and more superior than human reason. therefore world is god. world has parts taht are sentient therefore world is alive.
trees bearing musical playing flutes, wouldn't doubt trees have musical capacity. so why doubt world can breed wisdom or rationality.

fire/heat (catching fire): a literal analogy. things that have heat have life.
earth: rubbing stones together. warm temperature of soil
water: warm because not ice
air: boil water air = heat? storm. nature coldest but still has heat as coming from water.

world owed its preservation to heat. interfused with whole of nature (fused with male/female and growth of animals)
element hold whole world together - - element possessing sensation and reason - complex object contains ruling principle (in animals intelligence. trees the ruling principle is the root. Has the supremacy in that object/sort.
parts of world/world possess sensation and reason and therefore ruling principle has it too in higher/intense form and therefore possess wisdom. world is god.
glowing heat is purer than normal heat. and man and animals possess this. spontaneous motion - more divine than reactive motion. heat is a soul (animate being) - big leaps!
reason-Reason logos-Logos. self realisation. world intelligent, wise being from the beginning. best of all things.
man in purpose for imitating the world (egoic?) - disregards animals? for our sake.
dog better than puppy, man better than boy (more complete) -I think the claim being made is better is more virtuous and world wants to compete this realisation. therefore is essential to world as realisation aim? virtue can be realised within man.
fire means life (in stars.suns.bodies)
fire as consumption vs glow of life (flourishing and bring forth increase). sun must be alive because has that glow of life.
The earth isn't round. Its as flat as a pancake. Fact.
No its not, its been proven many times that its not
