You don't even need to be a Sunderland/Newcastle fan to understand what a howler this was.
Any football fan or just any sports fan in general, knows that you wouldn't decorate a part of your stadium in your main rivals team colours.
Pick any town/city in the UK and you'd get the same response from fans of whichever team was on the end of this.
The person who gave this the ok must have absolutely ZERO clue about football in the UK. I bet he/she was a "party planner" or "events coordinator" or something and when the client asked if they could decorate the space, they just said yes in the same way you'd say yes if they'd hired the room for a birthday, engagement do etc....
There's no way the person who OK'd this knows anything about football LOL!

@matthancock260 fans make the Derby not the owners. Sunderland Newcastle is a much bigger Derby than any of the Midlands. We get bigger, louder crowds, both clubs have some of the best away followings in Europe and its well known for being one of the biggest in Britain. Probably only topped by the old firm and that's all religion and politics.

The only time I think this is acceptable are for those special FA cup games were a non league club is drawn against a team sitting in the top six of the Premier League. The games where the outcome isn't really the issue, whatever the result it's a huge day out for the non league said. It's not something that should be done for teams within the football leagues.

Teams should be more welcoming than they are and it works both ways. Brighton for example light up the away end bars with their colours and arrange a guest beer from their area. It might defuse trouble and improve behaviour.

I don't get the fuss, away fans should be welcomed. How's it affect sunderland fans how the away concourse looks. Spurs have the crest of each visiting team embossed on their away end wall each time.
Firstly, it was the club bar, which had been turned over to our rivals. Secondly, the away end wasn't actually the away end, it was the home end, but somehow the 6,000 away supporters were more important than the 6,000 home supporters that were moved to.... the away end. This thing was a PR disaster from the get go.

Kyril Louis- Dreyfus, I believe, didnt directly sanction it - but he is guilty of unforgivable negligence as he employed whoever did sanction it.
My only hope is that this whole humiliating episode makes KLD wake up and realise what he has. Owning SAFC is an opportunity like no other - and if done well he'll actually make money, too!
The SAFC Commercial Department have a long history of being totally out of touch, out of their depth, and ultimately impact club profit with their admin negligence. (eg - ticket sale website is not fit for purpose, new SAFC kit launches badly timed then stock runs out within 48hrs - both cause revenue losses).
We get 40k avg home attendance despite being taken for granted & embarrassed off the pitch and at times on the pitch, too.
Atleast we havnt sold out to Sportswashers, though. 😊

It's all rigged and corrupt. Look at VAR for example, they brought in VAR to help make decisions on fouls. A clear foul will take place in front of the referee but they don't award the foul and refuse to check VAR so what is the point in having VAR? That's because the game goes in favour of the club with the most money. There can't be that much money involved and it not be rigged and corrupt. It's not sport its a business and also entertainment, the elite are providing you with entertainment.
Newcastle and Sunderland get big gates because they're large catchment areas with little competition. That's it.
