    Nice demo. To me it sounds more focused and a bit brighter.

    Love these! Beastly on synth and Bass. Have like 8 of them…only thing is there is a high cut around 15k that I‘d love to take out…did you try to mod these? Also I think you can change the input transformer ratio as it is the same transformer as in the 781 is that true? All the best, Tobi

      Interesting that you're mentioning this.
      The input transformer is indeed a step-down 3:1.
      Wiring it in reverse would increase the gain by a factor of 3 * 3 = 9.
      Which roughly corresponds to +19 dB if I'm not mistaken.
      With the max gain of +9 dB on the front panel and a bit from the fine gain trimmer we're hitting +30 dB.
      I could definitely see a mod to a low gain mic preamp.
      Must investigate further...

      I have pair and had a technician in Germany take look at them. He showed me his Neutrik scope you can get 9-20db of gain with a transformer modification, but you lose a lot of high end has a result.

      @3str  Před 5 měsíci

      @@dweeebazoid Yup this is a known issue with this mod. The top end loss occurs because the amplifiers following the transformer arent't loaded properly.
      They "see" a different input impedance with the switched transformers.
      However I've seen some dude on eBay sell V742s that are modded for up to 40dB gain.
      Which actually sounds pretty wild.
      I'd love to see what he did to the modules - but this may just as well be a dud...

    Nice video but the RFZ sounds to me 1db louder.

      Indeed it does. As I said in the intro I matched the peak levels, not RMS. And here's where the benefit lies IMHO: You're getting 1-2 dB RMS "for free" + the character from the transformers. I use these modules as a permanent front end for tracking, the benefits are cumulative.
      My 2 cents..

    Are they hard to come by?

    • @3str
      @3str  Před 6 měsíci +1

      They pop up occasionally here in Germany. Most of the time folks don't know what they're good for.

      @@magzdee Well I have a pair available. Do you want to DM me on facebook? => Michael Hank - it's the profile with the guy with the microphone..

    Wow, so fat and also solidifies and making more alive transients, especially on drums, and boosting lows and highs a bit. Very nice unit, indeed.
