ABOUT ME
I’m 32 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 850 breeding ewes.
I shore over 19,000 sheep this season in the UK and have my own shearing run which lets you see many different farms in the summer months.
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on CZcams and decided I could have a go and now here we are!

The ram that stayed to take notes was amazed by the flying sorting gates. ✨ Magic. The big boys didn't seem too thrilled by the carnival ride. It would be fun to hear them compare notes about their experiences. "He forced me to drink." "What are you talking about? Silly, he just sprayed water at us; didn't even get us wet." Brilliant taking the guess work out of dosing and the gun looks so easy to use. I always had a problem with being left handed which kept loosening off the thread.

So that's a very cool new toy......
I have the junior version, it doesn't have the electric eyes and it doesn't weigh them and it doesn't act as a turntable but I didn't need all those extras. Love the machine! I have their separate scale system with a 3 way sort. The gun I've had for about 4 years now, what a difference that makes for those of us with old arthritic hands. I should be able to farm until I am 90 with these machines. Weighed 99 lambs in 13 minutes last year with just me and one dog.

Very good kiwi gear. I started using Racewell gear about mid 1990s and was amazing how easy they are for weighing, drafting and dagging.
My son now uses one here in NZ so see him on Kiwi Farmer on CZcams.

Cammie I just watch the video and you said you don't trim the hoofs of the sheep but I know Sandi Brooks from Canada does. I know you watch her videos because you both mention each other on videos. I'm also from Canada too.
That’s a bit different Mark. Her’s are inside and well fed so they need trimmed. Mine are just on grass and outside so naturally extra hoof breaks off. 👍

I can’t believe this, I spent at least two hours on CZcams last night checking out automated systems for sheep handling, not that I can afford one but I can dream as good as anyone else! Out of 5 or 6 different systems I felt te pari would be my choice. Saw a guy whose channel was called ‘ ??? contracting’ , helpful I know! Anyway he had purchased a second hand one direct from te pari, not as pimped out as Cammies but it has been simply life changing. Lizzie won’t know herself! Delighted this is happening for you both. Mind you, two things, keep it locked away where even you can’t find it and start putting a few bob away every week because you’re going to be buying an ex demo handling unit this time next year!!
