RIP, Lance Reddick, the Concierge of The Continental.
He passed away from heart disease in March 2023. He was 60 years old.
Yea, it’s extra sad that he died irl not long after he did in the movie here
i think if john is dead is a pretty fitting finale because everything the marquis said is true. john has nothing to live for, the vengance was the only thing driving him as a way to stop mourning his wife for just a moment. he knows he broke the rules, and alot of people he cared about paid for it. so in the end he beats the table, saves his friend and his daughter, pays winston for all the help he provided and dies in peace watching the sunset and remembering his wife.
CONSEQUENCES!!!!
I AM KLAUS.
@@ardenaudreyarjibest answer possible
Klaus is actually a famous bouncer of the berghain club in Berlin which is notoriously one of the hardest clubs in the world to get into I think this casting is so unique and love that they hired someone outside of Hollywood completely to star in this role
He’s not completely out of hollywood wtf are you on about?
@@n0body550 he’s a German bouncer…how tf is he inside the Hollywood limelight goofy
@@Roobadoon I did a big goofy 😂 i must have been tired or something as i confused the character Killa with Klaus, my apologies good sir or madam 🙋🏻♂️
@@n0body550 no problem I thought I missed something and klaus was a bigger actor than I thought.
I think the overhead shotgun sequence is probably the closest to violence is art argument I’ve ever seen. It literally took my breath away for a second watching that in the theater.
took your dragon's breath away :P
@@Seraphis1911 When I play FPS games I always use shottys since my aim is crap. Lol So I’m well-versed in dragon’s breath and other flame-inducing shells. This scene appeals to the run and gunner in me. Lol
My cinema was going ape sh*t during that scene...just the greatest!
@@tonygmichael6434 I literally held my breath when it first came on. And then the scene kept going longer than I expected, which was very awesome.
@@mojoshivers Difference from watching it in a movie theater to at home right..Le Castle Vania rocking while Wick unleashes dragon breath on poor ass victims. There were folk dressed up like Wick in the cinema so they were hardcore fans and the longer it went on the louder it got. Then when he jumped out the window (certain death) everyone just laughed :D
The whole movie felt like a retro side-scroller game.
STAGE 1: DESERT Shoot through the henchmen on horses to kill the boss. Then find out there is an even badder boss.
STAGE 2: OSAKA Shoot through the henchmen in the hotel to escape the boss.
STAGE 3: BERLIN Shoot through the henchmen in the nightclub to kill the boss (co-op mode available)
STAGE 4: PARIS Shoot through the mercenaries to get to the final boss.
STAGE 5: BOSS DUEL!!!
Stage 6: Killing the real Boss.
I kept thinking about the nazi fight in Kung Fury, where it LITERALLY is a right to left fight. Including background people that never moves.
Donnie Yen was probably the best part of this movie for me. And I LOVE Mr. Reeves in these movies. But Donnie was just a huge standout to me.
Edit: the guy who plays the boss is a well known stunt man/fighter, and yes he’s wearing a fat suit.
Also, dragons breath is a real type of shotgun ammo.
Such a shame that he's an absolut garbage human being, supporting the implementation of the National Security Law in Hong Kong and accusing Hong Kong protesters of being rioters, for CCP clout. The complete opposite of Keanu Reeves.
Did my comment about using the Daredevil tv show guy instead, get removed?
@@SteelCityJW I don’t know? I’m seeing that it says there’s 2 replies, but I can only see 1.
@@kenny240 if you select comments to be listed by newest then scroll all the way down you can see the comment (not sure why you have to do that, its a vary stupid chat setup on CZcams's part). It's not my comment. So either i never posted it somehow or it was deleted.
@@SteelCityJW weird. But, you’re right. The guy that played Nobu would have been good. But, I think Donnie Yen brings a lot of fun and personality to this movie.
I think people overlook the big Warriors reference at the last third of the movie. You have the anonymous DJ calling out John's and other peoples moves, the song dedications, and John trying to "get home" to the duel. Its brilliant. However the Hotline Miami overhead was probably the best sequence i've ever seen for a very long time
Glad I'm not the only one who noticed it. Was starting to feel old there.
Same here I just made a comment about it and finally found some others that caught that
Isn't it the same song, too? Plus the close up on just her lips and the mic.
@@Kayjee17 Definitely. Absolutely. Yes.
YES!!
It was great for me because I watched The Warriors for the first time just a day before John Wick 4, it was impossible not to notice
RIP Lance Reddick.
Its just crazy that every movie continued to up the action and sequences to an insane level. Movie literally starts at 100% then goes right into 1000%. Keanu also did most if not all the stunt driving. Man's a machine :P
.....machine?
_stare_
_blink_
Note: Keanu and Chad Stahelski (The writer/director, and also Keanu's stunt co-ordinator on The Matrix) have said they have no further plans for John Wick at this time. There are a number of spin-off movies and a TV series set in the same universe, but right now no more John Wick.
Clancy Brown is and always will be the Kurgen from "Highlander." It won the Academy Award for Best Picture Ever.
Now that you've watched this Chapter 4, you should definitely check out the *Sisu* film (from the studio behind John Wick) that came out around the same time. I guarantee it will be quite a fun experience! 😎
I second that!!
I agree, such a fun movie💯
The ending song was performed by Rina Sawayama who played Akira in this. She was hired after the director saw her choreography and acting in her music videos
That homage to The Warriors (1979) was unexpected! I'm sure others have said it but yes the guy is wearing a fat suit. That's martial arts movie star Scott Adkins.
Got to love Clancy Brown, he always finds himself in good movies or is the shining light in mediocre movies. First movie I saw him in was "Bad Boys" (1983 w/ Sean Penn), then "Highlander" and a little known movie worth a watch, "Shoot To Kill" (1988) which stars Sidney Poitier and Tom Berringer.
The first I saw him was in "Highlander". Clancy will always be Kurgan to me. ⚔
@@Easy_Skanking Kurgan in Highlander and Rawhide in The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension were my first Clancy Brown roles since I saw them around the same time and then my next exposure to him was as John Danzinger in the tv series Earth 2 and as multiple people in the tv series Gargoyles.
I appreciate that you guys gave some credit to the stunt performers… I did read somewhere that Keanu actually gifted each member of the stunt crew genuine Rolexes as a sign of appreciation for their work after wrapping. Given his reputation as “Hollywood’s nicest guy”, it seems plausible. Class act, this guy…
And yeah, the stunt performers were truly awesome…
Stunt performers needs to be a category at "The Oscars" .
Scott Adkins is in the fat suit. He's the main villain in Ip Man 4 for reference. Great martial artist and seems like a real nice bloke.
This movie was awesome, you all should watch 'The Warriors' to get the radio DJ reference! Great reaction, keep them coming!
Yes! The Warriors next!!!
The lady on the radio mic sequence is an homage to The Warriors. You guys should really watch that movie soon.
The sand running out of the necktie is a nice touch on the poster...
RIP Lance Reddick(Charon, the concierge)
Fun fact - Charon was the name given to the one who ferried the souls of the dead to Hades, in Greek mythology. Hades, being the "underworld", it makes thematic sense to give the character that name, since every character in the film series is part of the Underworld...not because Reddick died. Just to be clear.
And Chiron was a teacher (of many heroes) and healer. The centaur for disease control, if you will…
Apart from over the top action sequence, i really love the aesthetic design of Continental Osaka, especially costume design for Koji and Akira.
I find that ending really satisfying. Everything he did was because of the memory of his wife. And in the end he is free (or 'absolved' rather, because as he said he believes in damnation in Chapter 2). So he would be at peace.
I saw this in the theater with my dad, and we loved it!
However, this is not the end for John Wick, as Keanu Reeves might return as Baba Yaga one last time, but for now, he's getting all the rest he needs
Clancy Brown has done some good stuff he was the (over the top villain) the Kurgan in the Highlander and Sergeant Charlie Zim in Starship Troopers. And let’s not forget Captain Hadley in the Shawshank Redemption. All of which have CineBinge Reactions.
One of the theories i love is that John Wick or his late wife was the kid of the Continental Manager Winston. Also, that Winston was one of the Roma Family (noted by the language & some tattoos). So through the whole series, it was not just an age or mentor thing why Winston kept calling John Son.
Loving the idea of JW5 where John isnt dead. Maybe he's the new Charon/Concierge.
Yep, there are a lot of fan theories about Winston and John's true relationship.
I have one that Winston is the father of Sofia's daughter that John helped hide. 😁 Sure, it may be silly, but fanlore is just fun to spitball.
"NUTS!" He kind spammed that move, lol.
Happy birthday Simone!
"What stuff are they on that they don't notice?" My brother commenting on the club fight.
The guy in the fat suit is the legendary Scott Adkins...a real martial artist, stunt guy, and movie star. He had a ton of fun playing the role in Wick 4.
So the actor playing ‘Killa’ is indeed wearing a fatsuit. His name is Scott Adkins, and he’s gained a big following for his work in starring in modern martial arts films, such as Undisputed films (the sequels, at least), Ninja (just watch the sequel to that one), a very underrated down-the-line sequel to Universal Soldier, fighting Donnie Yen in IP Man 4, etc.
The ending really reminded me of the ending to Cowboy Bebop, which I felt was fitting since Keanu was in talks to play Spike for the longest time. So imagine my surprise to find out that I was totally right, the director DID take inspiration from Cowboy Bebop
There is a big reference in this movie to "The Warriors" (1979) that you guys didn't notice. You should watch The Warriors now!!
I saw JW4 in IMAX. It was brilliant! Btw, Ian McShane has such a cool voice. He voiced Tai Lung in Kung Fu Panda.
Nobody , as tracker present himself before card game , was in this movie , same film makers did movie Nobody 2021 , similar action .
RZA plays brother of Nobody , Bob Odenkirk , very similar looking than Shamier Anderson .
I love that they gave Akira an audible blade for the post-credit. To me that's an easy out for the directors to get Caine out of the assassination attempt. Maybe they will do something more with the two characters in another movie. Keanu said outright that he'd continue to play John Wick as long as people keep watching, so I don't think he's truly dead.
The sexy radio lady is a nod to Lynn Thigpen doing a similar thing in 1979’s “The Warriors”, one of the coolest films on the planet.
A round of applause for "I'm Mr Nobody, you hit my puppie, prepare to die". Such an awsome reaction, as always!
What's crazy is that, according to the director, the events in the first three films happen within a week. Apparently, there is a longer gap between the events in the third film and the fourth, with it all taking place in less than a year's time.
The woman who had Wick hanging... she was in Harry Potter but most importantly, she was Doris in Superbob which is probably the best superhero movie ever... its stars Roy Kent
Also in Game Of Thrones
@@O_Towne_Bear thought that but wasn't certain so hesitated... haha
The Dragons Breath is an actual shotgun round. A very expensive one at that, 50 bucks a shell. Count all the shots in this sequence and multiply.😮
The scene from above with the dragon breath shotgun, was inspired by a game called The Hong Kong Massacre it’s a fun top down view game with bullet time effects.
john falling down all those stairs is definitely a rage quit moment in video games
Lance Reddick died about a week or so, before the movie opened. The premier was dedicated to him.
Absolutely love the commentary!
35:38 Very John Woo at the end with the Thompson Contender 1 shot duel pistols there such awesome guns John Woo often had villains use that gun in his movie's such as hard boiled and Hard Target
Clancy Brown is also the Kergon (Sp?) in Highlander... great role and he played the psychopath perfectly. He was also the drill sargeant in Starship Troopers...a smaller role, but still memorable
Kurgan.
John wick - He Grieved
John wick 2- He Raged
John wick 3- He Bargained
John wick 4- He Accepted
I'm pretty sad they abandoned a lot of the realism for this one, because I think an action film series that sort of felt like Game of Thrones where anything could happen at anytime was something unique and fresh, so it's sad to see that was majorly reduced by the end of the series.
I agree. I enjoyed the film, but the over the top fighting at the end reminded me more of a Kill Bill flick.
I think they lost the realism of the series with 3. Enjoy them all of course but felt the video game feel starting in that one.
I'm still reeling over the Arc de Triomphe scene. The cinematography... How does one safely control live traffic?? Omg amazing, amazing.
That's because there is a ton of CGI in that sequence. But they used it so well that nobody noticed it. This wohle sequence wasn't even shot at the Arc, but on en empty lot 😁
Movie Magic!!! 🪄
That scene sucks, it is a CGI fest.
@@DemNikoArt It is obviously CGI.
Loads of CGI. Seemed pretty obvious.
Thats because you useless bag of cunts were looking for it
Wick is like a video game character that specced in both speed and accuracy, with everything else put into physical resistance.
Clancy Brown will always be The Kurgan to me.
The recurring oblivious dance club theme is great.
Quick-cut fight scenes are so much easier than putting in the work to train the cast and choreograph and film fights the right way.
I was amused at George chuckling over Japanese people speaking English to each other. How you forgot about the frequent use of other languages with exceptionally well-done subtitles throughout the series is beyond me.
Don't forget the series The Continental: From the World of John Wick, scheduled to premiere on September 22, 2023 on Peacock in the United States, and on Prime Video internationally.
Clancy Brown is also the sheriff in Pet Sematary 2, and the Kurgan in Highlander. And shows up in commentaries for some of these things.
21:43 his name is Scott Adkins and he's a martial artist too. And a fuckin good one at that.
Me and my dad, (the biggest highlander fan ever) were really hoping throughout the whole film that Clancy Browns character would say, "Mr. Wick, there can be only one."
I was PRAYING in the theatre when he's discussing the rules that he would say something like " ... as far as a winner: there can be only one."
But no 💔😭😭😭😭😢
Holy shit! Gateway Bag?!?!? Someone at work a few weeks ago left a perfectly pristine Gateway computers backpack in the breakroom to give away for free and when i lifted up the lid on it it had that old black and white milk cow pattern underneath the lid. It's like New-Old Stock or whatever. Simone, are you secretly seeing random things from your subscribers lives? Is this where the weird opening phrases come from?!
For me Clancy Brown will always be "The Kurgan" from Highlander (or at least the devaronian Burg from "The Mandalorian").
The DJ is clearly an influence from the Warriors
Cool reaction as always Simone & George, you both have a great weekend
The Dragon's Breath scene is a huge reminder of how much better the score was in the first movie. Top tier and wish they had kept that atmosphere/sound for the rest. Still love them and the franchise. One of the coolest action scenes in years.
Tracker and Akira are some of the coolest additions to this franchise and I really hope we can see more of those two.
That Cowboy Bebop ending
George, Clancy is also the voice of Lex Luther if that makes you feel better. 😂😂😂
cant even play card with john. he will kill you with that too😂😂
I remember clearly when JW3 came out, they were talking about making it a 5 movie series. Then when JW4 came out, Keanu and Chad were saying it was the last one. But now, they're with the "if there's a good story we'll make it" talk. So who knows what will come out of it. Paralell to this, there's The Contenental series on one of the streaming platforms coming up, based on the Wickverse. And there's The Ballerina, with Ana de Armas, coming next year.
John Wick: To Tartarus and Back
It's John Wick vs the Gods and beasts on the underworld, going through all circles of hell to save his Wife's soul
I think they're doing a prequel series called The Continental about how the table formed and its set in the 70s.
To address Caine asking John if he's dead. After that John tries to imitate last breath and holding it until glass gives away he's still alive
I find it funny how the flashbang didn't do anything to Caine, since a flashbang also makes a VERY loud bang -- hence flashBANG. It should have affected his hearing. But of course, we don't question realism here 😆
The sexy radio bounty raise near the end is a homage to the Warriors movie of the 70's or 80's
My Clancy Brown story. I was a working actor in Los Angeles. I went into a popular photography printing company to okay the work being done on my new headshots. I saw that Clancy Brown was up at the counter and he looked at me as I walked in. He smiled at me like he knew me, but we had never met before. I sat down and waited my turn. Clancy kept turning around and smiling at me. I smiled back, but never went past that. He didn't say anything as he left, I think he may have realized his mistake, or he thought that I was being rude. I had a lot of people think that they knw me, I have that kind of face.
And yes it's the legendary Scott Atkins in a fat suit.
Did you guys miss the after credit short? It shows the blind guy holding flowers walking up to his Daughter playing the violin as the older daughter of the guy who the blind guy killed approaches from the side with a held low knife. and the scene ends there.
The radio dj talking about the bounty and playing the song "nowhere to run" is a direct homage the the 1980 street gang movie "The Warriors"
That overhead fight scene was AWESOME
yeah, charon was the ferryman on the river styx, not to be confused with chiron who was a centaur that taught hercules in warfare and combat
Kind of a lore thing, but John Wick's universe and the universe in the game PAYDAY are the same. Wick is a playable cameo character in Payday 2, and the devs mentioned it was canon. You also see the characters from Payday (Chains and Wolf) as posters for a brief moment in John Wick chapter 2. Iirc Payday also added Continental coins as a currency. The musician Le Castle Vania also did music for both things, and had a cameo in John Wick chapter 2 😄
On the topic of Keanu Reeves, I hope you guys get around to finishing the Bill & Ted trilogy. Bogus Journey has the best on screen grim reaper, ever, and Face The Music is a heartfelt way of wrapping up the story. It’s one of those rare trilogies where all 3 movies hit the right mark.
I did think Caine was Ken Jeong in the first half of the movie until I looked it up. Donnie Yen and Ken could pass as twins.
The guy in the fat suit is Scott Adkins, great stunt man, and the radio DJ is an homage to The Warriors movie.
the ending with Winston and Bowery at johns grave can be interpreted in two ways. either you take the dialogue head on and see it how its portrayed, john wick died and they are saying goodbye to him. OR (what i believe) they are saying goodbye to the man "john wick". he is now fully retired, no ties to the assassination world anymore. his grave is a mere symbol of him being a free man. or more a "free" man. they winston questioned if john is in heaven or hell. with that he means if john wick is in heaven because he got finally out or in hell because now he has nothing left to live for.
That scene with the girl and the radio MUST be a reference to the warriors, from the old school tapes to the close up of the lips even down to the music where warriors had "no where to run, no where to hide"
Love the shout out to "The Warriors" movie in the Paris scene!
The place in Paris where they had the traffic fight is called the Place de l'Etoile; the roundabout is the Star it is named for.
The reason the concierge was killed off in the movie was because the actor, Lance Reddick, had late stage heart failure and was needing to bow out. Unfortunately he died not long afterwards. Fans of his work in the video game Destiny 1 and 2 held and in game vigil in his memory.
John wick always brings Splinter Cell blacklist to my mind
The scene with the elder was where they filmed parts of Lawrence of Arabia. 4:09 watching this scene got me wondering if Lance Reddick knew he was dying and they gave him an on scene death. The fight on the stairs to the final duel was chosen by some of the stuntmen to use. The director took a couple of them to scout locations and the first one they weren’t sure then they found the set they used and the stunt crew had huge grins on their faces. Once filming wrapped Keanu bought all the stunt crew a custom shirt that said how many times the performer met their demise in the film and he bought his five man stunt team each a personalized $10,000 Rolex Submariner watch. Keanu also spent 12weeks studying martial arts & stunt driving lessons so he could do as many action scenes as possible. In an almost 3hr movie John Wick only says 380 words which averages about 2 words a minute. Keanu cut out most of the lines to make John a man of few words. Friday September 22nd Peacock will be streaming a series called “The Continental” which is like a prequel to John Wick. There’s also a spin-off coming called “Ballerina”. Donnie Yen’s character is fully blind in this movie. Apparently he gave his eyes to the high table like John gave his ring and ring finger.
37:05 it’s funny you mention “like brothers” when Donnie Yen’s character is Caine and in the Bible Cain killed his brother Abel.
John Wick kills 438 people in all four movies
John Wick 1 - 77
John Wick 2 - 116
John Wick 3 - 94
John Wick 4 - 151
Another little bit of trivia: John is shot in the same places the doctor asked to get shot. In other words, non-lethal areas.
The best part is when he says "it's Wicking time".
So I just watched the movie on Blu Ray. YT notification popping up and now I'm here for the reaction. JW4 is epic.
Keanu Reeves has only 380 words in John Wick 4 😳😳😳. An absolutely stunning movie!!!!!
@24:51.... The Harbinger paraphrases the Kurgan, "There can be only ONE!"
that first hit on beginning of movie in theater i almost shit my pants
Love the John Wick series. It series reminds my of a darker and more refined version of the 2008 movie Wanted, with James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman, and Chris Pratt. Funnier version of a assassin filled world you want to see an expanded universe.
Love you guys!!!
The overhead scene woth the dragons breath ehere George said its "video gamey" is because its a total homage tk a videl game hotline miami
The street with the roundabout is called the Champs-Elysees. The name is a reference to the Roman and Greek heaven. Literally, it's the "Field of dead heroes".
theres braille on the cards thats how kane could tell
The Gold Coins are like in-game currencies. You can only earn them by completing missions, and you can only get advanced equipment and services by paying in Gold Coins.
I am so glad I saw this in a theater.
Clancy Brown's also the abusive sergeant in Starship Troopers lol
Dragons breath shotgun shells have magnesium in it. Which is where the dragons breath type of effect comes from. It’s fun to shoot!
21:40 It's Scott Adkins (seriously, check out the final fight scene in "Avengement"), and yes, he's wearing a fat suit.
Nice to see the warriors getting a call back with the women on the radio doing the whole bopper segment
I fucking love this movie! Everything from the music, to the costumes, to the fights, and the scenery. It's better than it has any right to be! Hahaha
