The Arabs helped the British fight off the Ottoman to control the Middle East and create the state of Israel as well as divided the Middle East into separate states giving each Saudi heir a country of their own.

It's funny the British actors playing the parts of Germans and Turkish officers give the worst accents almost a Monty python ploy

As crappy as the movie may have been, these guys did the impossible, they came out of the Sinai desert to attack. They did this before Lawrence did it.

this was 1917 during the British invasion of Palestine, Yeah I agree this movie was really propaganda one sided on behalf of the "Allies" when in WW1 there was absolutely no good guys or bad guys, just nations killing each other for unfortunate circumstances in the long run. The British Desert campaign was technically going to have nothing to do with WW1, it was going to be a filthy greedy objective of snatch and grab of the Muslim lands to steel the oil. Attack and Conquer if you will. The British were the Axis of evil during that campaign.

@@doublekatana95 There certainly were good guys and bad guys in WWI. The central European powers were anti-democratic. The concept of "Lebensraum" was strong in Germany already (Hitler later adopted it, but he didn't invent it). The world fought to prevent German dominance of Europe, which at that time was the main industrial powerhouse of the world.

Well, the Turks did win the battle of Gaza, in that they weren't forced out. But Allenvy wasn't finished. He ordered Chauvel to attack Beersheba, where the Turks were forced out and it turned their whole position.

Best Mounted Infantry of the British Empire, but thanks to Britain's aristocratic dunderheads, they use them poorly. Von Kressenstein's words be true.

Drew Cobb the stupidity of British commanders probably killed more British, Australian, New Zealander, Canadian, and other Empire/Commonwealth troops than the German and Ottoman commanders' decisions.

Infantry is on foot, it isn't "mounted". The term is cavalry.

They weren't mounted infantry. Australian doctrine drew a clear distinction between Light Horse and Mounted Infantry. These were the former. They had some of the characteristics of both mounted infantry and cavalry, and also from the Boer kommandos.

You can tell it's an Australian production " They are not cavalry, they are Australian light horse, they are formidable soldiers"...I'm sure they were but actions speak louder than words and there is enough action in the movie to compensate for this lame script. In real life Australians, New-Zealanders, South Africans and Rhodesians (before Rhodesia was called Zimbabwe) were known to be the best soldiers of their times.

They were colonials...When Rommel went up against the Australians in Tobruk and was stopped... he reported to Hitler and Hitler asked him how he could be stopped by a bunch of colonials. As Rommel replied...give me two batallan of colonials...and I will give you the world!

The saying is correct, however. Australian doctrine in the Mouted Service Manual of 1902 distringuished between Light Horse, mounted infantry and cavalry. This arose out of a comprehensive assessment of Australian experience in the Boer War. Australia had 23 Light Horse regiments by 1914 and they were c0nsidered most appropriate for the defence of the Australian mainland. As it turned out, they were also very well suited for operations in Egypt-Palestine.
