      Hi there. Thanks for watching! I would consider making it at least 7-9 layers of news paper for a pretty sturdy costume. I have made some pinatas (11-12 layers) that were so hard to break that my family had to use their hands to rip it apart. Even punching at times. Mind you, they were adults that got the last throws and got the candy out. lol.

    • @the12makeit
      @the12makeit  Před 2 lety +6

      Hi there! Thank you for watching and for your kind comments! You can close the hole by adding a piece of cardstock paper as small "hid" to open and close. I usually leave it as is. As far as candy, it depends on how many layers you make the piñata ball. I normally make the main balloon at least 9 layers. I had parties where a 9 layer piñata took about 15 people (no blindfold). If I want lots of people to hit it, I make it with 10-12 layers. For the size of this piñata, I added about 5-7 fun size bags of candy or 2-3 bags of big bulk party candy bags.
      Keep in mind that the rope I use is not just any rope. I only use "Red Heart" nylon crochet thread. Trust me, it makes a big difference in holding the piñata. You don't want all that work to just use a simple twin only to have the string rip and the piñata fall to the ground only after a few hits.
      I'm currently uploading a new piñata video and should be available shortly so stay tuned.

      @the12makeit  Před 9 měsíci +2

      Hi there. Thanks for watching. Sure you can pop the ball instead of waiting for the air to come out. However, if you want to reuse the ball for other pinatas or for using at the beach at a later time, then I would suggest to let the air out through the air hole. You can place a straw in the air hole to allow the air to come faster.

      I use the rope this way as it I believe gives a better hold than other pinata makers that just add the rope by making 2 holes around the top. My thoughts are that the weight of the pinata and candy will not hold well if you add the rope like other do. I like it to be around the whole ball.

    Do you think this could be complete in 4 days?? Allowing for drying time? Do you double layer in one day to make it go by faster? I need this project completed in 4 days :( !!!!!

    • @the12makeit
      @the12makeit  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi there,
      Thanks for watching! Depending on the area, if its cold, it might be done in four days. I have a room in my home that gets warm and that's where I leave my piñatas to dry faster. You can also place it out the in sun if its warm outside. You can also use a hair dryer to make the process a bit faster but be careful and watch for the balloon to expand as the balloon can pop or the paper mache can tear if expanded to much when using the hair dryer. If you use the hair dryer, do it for a few minutes then let it cool for a bit and repeat.
      I do several layers in one sitting when applying the paper. Keep in mind, double layer just means 2 layers. So sometimes do 3 "double layers" for a total of 6 layers, then I let it dry. I normally do a average of a total of 9 layers (5-6 layers the first day then let that dry then another 3-4 layers on the second day) for a stronger pinata.
      Sorry for the long message but I hope this helps.

      Thanks for watching and for your comment. It may appear that it does but it really only took me about 5-10 minutes using my hands. I usually place a pencil or something thin enough for some of the air to come out on its own for a few minutes. Once the ball has less air, I then start to work out of the pinata, which again that would take about 5 - 10 minutes.

      Paper mache mix is what I use with the paper over the ball or balloon.
      Paper mache mix video:
      czcams.com/video/5HtDAdpu8v8/video.html
      Joint Compound.
      I mixed it with water. It is not necessary to do that step but you will use less paint if you do. It also hides imperfections. If you decide to use tissue paper (the ones that you use for gift bags) to decorate the ball instead of paint, then you do not need the joint compound.

    What is the mixture of your liquid?

      Hi there, thank you for watching. I have a video of how I make my paper mache mix. It is made of flour, water, & glue. Salt is optional to add to avoid the mixture from getting mold if you intend to make a lot of the mixture and use it for several days. I only make enough for the amount I need for each balloon or project.
      Here is the link to that video.

      @@tinagary3775 Hi there, I'm sorry for not being able to get the video up yet. I have been working like crazy. Gotta pay those bills. lol . However, I wanted to let you know that I do have another video of a disco ball pinata where I show how I added the rope to it. I used the same process as for the large ball as the small ball. Here is the link to that video and you can skip to 6.06 on the video to go start to that part of adding the rope. czcams.com/video/8a7l3KE6SqI/video.html

    it would be smart to get a large cheap plastic 3inch or so diameter container, cut the bottom out, and insert it in the fill hole to pull out the inflatable more easily without damaging the rim, note, th cut side of the container should be facing outwards to prevent catching or even cutting/damaging of reusable balloons

      Thanks for the suggestion. I'll have to try that sometime. I try my best to remove my inflatable beach balls safely for the same reason. Thankfully I have done so successfully and have reused it several times.

    One hit and that pinata is destroyed 🙄

      Actually, I've made this several times and all took lots of hits before it completely broke to get all the goodies out. Even several teachers took turns at a school function. If you make with at least 9 layers (I normally makes these 9 to 11 layers for the same reason, it will take several good hits. I'm sure many think the same thing so thanks for the comment.

      @@chrisiwissy3872 Let me know if you have any questions. I don't play with all the work that goes into making these to just have it break so easily or fast so also use a certain type of rope. That rope is listed in the description in case you wish to use the same. Happy crafting!
