The touch tanks are cruel, especially at Shedd where it is extremely loud and many of the fish seem overstocked or sick and not properly quarantined for treatment. When I learned those Sturgeon only get to leave that little bitty pool once they reach a certain size, I began to question why we have to perverse the way nature is meant to be encountered out of some sham of "respect" or "conservation." It's okay to want something that will draw in kids and cash, but I'm so sick of the amount of mistreatment swept under the rug of these "touch tanks" for stingrays, sturgeon, jellies. What happened to tidepool discovery zones? Why do hundreds of kids need to pet the same group of fish every day?
