You might find this berceuse rather sad. It has a very natural reason. The little boy of Armas Järnefelt had been ill quite some time, and a doctor was asked to make a diagnose about him. This diagnose was very negative: this boy would very probably die in a few hours. The father was very sad, and so he composed a musical necrology for his son. However, the diagnose was wrong and the boy lived a long life. So Armas Järnefelt changed the title so, that it was no more a funeral music. However, here in Finland this piece has been used in the funerals, if the deceased one was a child.
