John said when he wrote this he really needed help dealing with life. When the beatles got huge he was very independent and the fame he wanted, caused him a lot of emotional stress and worry.
I find it refreshing to hear the Beatles' tunes through new ears, that experience the magic for the first time and recognize great song writing.
John Lennon always regretted writing this song as an up-beat tune, because he felt it trivialised trouble he was having at the time.

It is quite simply a cry out for help. The Beatles spent quite lot of time working hard for their chance to get noticed, being rejected by pretty much every record label and wondering whether they will ever get known outside Liverpool or Germany. But when they finally got famous, they found themselves not prepared for some things that come with fame.

Love your reactions to these songs! The Beatles have always been my absolute favorite band! I really like what you have to say about these songs. Nobody could say it better! Their early music has such energy and excitement. And their later music is so deep and artistically done. There hasn't been anyone else who has been able to match their achievements. Another great song I recommend to you to listen to is "She Loves You". Love you! Love your reactions!
