Michigan Shore Railroad In A Severe Thunderstorm

- Michigan shore railroad train Z627 (symbol used on CSX tracks from west olive to Holland) fights its way through Grand Haven as A severe thunderstorm breaks overhead with CF&E 3885 leading G&W 2019 and 19 cars from Muskegon.
While at the beach taking photos of the lighting I could not help but over hear scanner chatter from The Michigan shore as they finished up work at Bay Logistics and began their Run south towards Grand Haven and I could not pass up the opportunity to chase. The first shot, I must admit, had a lot of luck played into it. By the time I reached Washington they were already blowing their horn for crossings in town. I struggled finding a good location to film from as rain began falling which caused me to cut it very close on the first shot. After watching I headed south to Hayes street just as the brunt of the storm hit. Winds gusting at 60+ mph battered the train throwing branches and leaves around and sending the rain horizontal as it became a down pour. My last attempt at filming looked promising with Intense lightning illuminating the usually dark crossing, however the last shot was ended abruptly when a change in the wind sent rain streaming into my car, soaking me and my camera affectively ending the chase. - Zábava
Over the years I watched this video several hundred times, I don't know why but i find it very soothing to watch.... Thanks for making and sharing it.🙏🙏
Great video with the train and the lightning. At 0:18 I'm wondering where the train is coming from. Then there's a blaze of lights and , lo and behold, it emerges from a store front!
Nighttime, a thunderstorm, and a train. It all came together to make a opportunity. Great video!

very flashy thunderstorm, now did that hit already, or is it about to hit?
Computist40 The storm was about 5 minutes out at this point, it actually got so bad, it ended my chase early
+Andrew Vriesman Was this the day (August 24, 2013) that the storm hit or no? If it was, was it in the morning or at night? Trying to recall if we had a storm that day or not...
This would be late evening, likely around 11:30. It probably would have been a day before the upload day
+Andrew Vriesman Thankfully, modern technology allowed me to search old radar images. It appears the first part of your video was taken around the time of 10pm on August 21. The second half of your video when you changed locations was shot in the middle of the storm, it appears, which like you said is around 11-11:30pm. Correct me if I'm wrong. :)
+Joel Fritsma; What website do you use for that?
Why did u go in a severe storm? Lol
