    Nothing better than shelling purple hull peas on a hot Summer day, sitting in the shade with a bowl to shell into in your lap, and stained fingers for days. Those were the best times- my grandmother would tell us stories about her youth ( she was born in 1900) and we had a meal of fresh peas and cornbread for supper to look forward to! Mama would can as many as she could get her hands on. You’re blessed to have such a crop coming on!

    We pulled up all our peas and beans because the aphids destroyed them. We tried to go organic to keep bugs under control, but we finally broke down and used Seven, now are garden is doing better than ever. It's good to know we can plant again this late in the year and get a crop. Thanks Alan.

    Praise the Lord for any rain we get In July and August! What is the lifespan of the buried drip irrigation hose? I have been using cheap soaker hoses from Walmart and I only get 2 to 3 yrs out of them, I don’t leave them out all year. I need something better. That’s a good lookin pea patch, I’m proud of ya!

    I watched your video this morning and am glad to hear I can still plant peas. I've got some ssg and red rippers peas ordered from green cover that Travis from LDF recommended. Have you looked into their soil resource guide? It is so awesome and they have webinars to subscribe to. Travis knows his stuff and he breaks everything down like Forest Gump's momma (Momma always had a way of explaining thangs....). But you maybe a little closer to my area than him. But he is my Goto. Seems either I'm catching on and thinking about what to do next and then boom he does a video on just the thing! Your peas are looking very good? No deer issues?

    If you would have put in a fence trellis along your purple hull peas that have runners (climbing vines), they would be climbing the trellis, keeping them up off the ground and making it much easier to harvest them. Make the fence trellis tall. A cattle panel will work great. The runners (vines) would climb higher if they had an even taller trellis.

    • @BIGALTX
      @BIGALTX  Před 3 lety +1

      I use panels and hortinova trellis on pole beans and other climbing veggie, but I don't think these are true "climbers"... although they might benefit from a trellis.
