I personally prefer the Oris to the Omega due to the movement, the design, the bracelet and the value for money. I also have a few things for viewers and potential buyers of these watches to concider after watching your video. Maybe these points should be included in a future video about these models.
    1. You refer to the Oris as a 40 mm watch at the start of the video and commenting that you think it is to small, but it is in fact 41,5 mm. It does have short integrated lugs which makes it wear a little smaller and very comfortably.
    2. You say the thickness of the Oris is thick at 13,8, but the thickness of the model in 41,5 mm (which is the only one shown throughout the video) is actually 13,5 mm which is exactly the same as the Omega Seamaster at 13,5 mm.
    3. The Omega Seamaster pro bracelet does not taper but the bracelet on the Oris Aquis does taper down to 16 mm making the bracelet on the Oris alot more comfortable and stylish compared to the thick and chunky bracelet on the Omega. The Omegas bracelet does however have toolless microadjust which the Oris does not. The integrated bracelet on the Oris offers superior comfort, but limits the possibility of 3rd party straps significantly. On the Omega you can shop a wide variaety of after market straps. The Oris does however have their own brilliant quick-change strap system which makes it very ewasy to change between the bracelet and the rubber strap without tools and without scratching the watch.
    4. You say that Oris does not offer any Aquis models in other metals, but they do in fact sell one model in gold (CARYSFORT REEF GOLD LIMITED EDITION) and one with a white gold dial (SUN WUKONG ARTIST EDITION). It should be noted that these models are both limited and very expensive. Oris also sells their other models in bronze.
    5. Skeletonized hands means less superluminova and therefore the lume on the Oris's hour and minute hands is alot brighter and longer lasting than the Omega. The hands are also a polarizing feature on this model.
    6. In addition to the 10 year warranty the Oris does also have a 10 year service interval which significantly reduces servicing cost in the long run. Omega recommends you service their watches about every 5 years. An Omega service is expensive so the Omega will definately be alot more expensive to have in tip top shape in the long run.
    7. The beat frequenzy of the Omega is 25 200 vibrations per hour (3,5 hz, 7 beats per second) where the Oris has a beat frquenzy of 28 800 vibrations per hour (4 hz, 8 beats per second). This means that the Oris has a smoother sweep of the seconds hand than the Omega. Some will care about this, others won't.
    8. The Omega is alot more expensive with a much lower value for the money, but it will probably hold its value better on the second hand market compared to the Oris.
    9. The big helium escape valve on the Omega is a polarizing feature along with the skeletonized hands. Maybe talk a little bit more about that?
    10. This last point is non watch related but since you mention it there are plenty of car manufacturers that offer long guarantees. Kia currently offers a 7 year factory warranty on all of their cars.
Keep up the good work with your videos! :)

I own both (black dial SMP300 on rubber) and blue dial Aquis but still prefer the SMP300. The lyre lugs, the ridiculous comfortable rubber strap with the thoughtful hidden buckle keeper, and the zr02 wave dial is just 🤌🤌. The 8800 coaxial movement is also an engineering marvel. The Aquis is also a stunning watch though and gets just as much wrist time. A more industrial, raw, with a "straight to business" attitude. The 10 year warranty is unprecedented as well.

You see I have a bit of an issue when it comes to watch snobbery, and this is probably the first Chisholm Hunter video where I’ve really felt it come across. And it’s just little things that infer something about potential Oris buyers, such as if you like simple get the Oris, and the quip at the end suggesting if you’re an amateur and you know nothing about luxury watches, then go with the Oris. The calibre 400 is a technical marvel, and a bit of background research would have uncovered exactly why it’s a revolution for Oris and for watchmaking. So shame on you Harrison, less watch snobbery in future please, we know you love your Omega, but please don’t justify it by downplaying the comparator.

I own both the Aquis (Sellita version, on bracelet) and the white SMP (also on bracelet). They are both great watches, but for daily use, I believe the Oris to be more versatile and comfortable. The bracelet on the Oris, while less complicated in terms of finishing, is a lot more flexible and fluid and just feels nicer on the wrist. Both are very good value for money watches though. As for the Breguet model I like the most, I would have to go with the 3230, very classy and I love the different dial textures/finishing.

The Aquis range and Titans before it have always had the best case design in the diving segment. The lugs curve beautifully around to hug the wrist. The case and bracelet marriage is sublime. It just looks better and doesnt have that pimple at 10 you just want to squeeze. The legibility in low light is clearer, Even the bezel action is better. Oris punches well above its weight amd aesthetically has few competitors.
I own many more expensive watches than the Oris, but not many better

  • @thinsmough5948

Both are beautiful watches beyond a doubt. My personal preference is the Oris. I love the quite tool-oriented no-nonsense design, and the movement is really impressive. Contrarily, though, I think the bracelet is too polished and not really in line with its tool look. Also, the price aspect of the Oris is downright impressive for the movement and quality you're getting. As for my favourite Breguet model, it would be the Marine. I love every aspect about that watch, right down to the rotor.

As an Aquis owner for many years, I can share some insights. Watch on rubber is absolutely fabulous the clasp is easy to adjust on the fly and wears very well. Compared to the lack of adjustability on the Omega rubber strap, it is superior. Two negatives on the Aquis is definitely the antireflective coating is not great. And the accuracy is not great either, I typically lose 5 to 10 seconds a day. Typically to make sure I'm never late, I just set the watch five minutes ahead every month and that keeps me early and on time, but I expect more accuracy. It definitely is well built and looks great, you can get deep discounts. Also I do own the stainless steel bracelet and it definitely is quality, but lacks the micro adjustability.

  • @kk7sm
    @kk7sm Před 2 lety +1

First, my favorite Breguet? My Type XX that just came back from service a couple of weeks ago (and that was expensive service). :-)
40mm too small for a dive watch? There's a Mr. Rolex at the door saying something about Submarines? :-)
So, I actually own both of these watches, the blue Aquis Cal 400 in 41.5mm and the Seamaster in white. It was like you were showing me my own collection here. I'm wearing the Oris right now, though. The Oris is great around the house and I wear a watch at night because I'm nearsighted and can't see the clock. When I wake up in the middle of the night and wonder whether it's worth it to try to fall back asleep, the lume on the Oris is legible - the Seamaster, not so much. It's the skeleton hands, they don't stay bright quite as long and trying to focus on a triangle and a dot with blurry vision, it's just too much for me. That said, I wouldn't own both if I didn't love both, but there's just something undefinable about the Aquis that makes me happy.
If I had to sell one, though, I would sell the Seamaster before the Aquis. I think, in my case, it all comes down to how I use it.

  • @a_watch_enthusiast2149

When I was choosing a new watch, I was debating between the omega seamaster 300m and the aquis 400. I thought i already own the previous green aquis so decided new watch over new movement. Great review as always.

Oris was a pin lever company until the 1970's... Come on! The Oris doesn't compete at all with the Omega. It is a brand not only below Omega and Rolex but also below the level of Longines, Tudor and Baume et Mercier. The Caliber 400, on top of that has some unacceptable problems for the price.

@@mood1676 It has problems with the time setting. The hands jump when the user pulls the crown or push it in, which makes quite difficult to set precisely te time. The hands jump between 1-5 minutes! At this price... Not even swatch system 51 has such a problem.

@@leestrada1 oh wow, I was always told to walk back the hands to prevent that but ya that is not good. I really want to root for oris, but maybe it will be a few years before they can really compete in luxury watches.

I own omega seamaster. Oris belongs to the category of tag Heuer aqua racer. The aesthetics the co axial movement all wins for omega. The oris caliber400 has some quality control issues. That can never ever happen with an omega watch.I want peace of mind which comes with omega.

Stupid comparison. Omega blows it out of the water in every way. Only people with an Oris would think differently.
