I flew the 228 in the nineties, a super aeroplane, pleasant handling qualities and perfect for its role.
This and the twotter is my favorite STOL aircraft, just love these iron birds

An interesting video of the Dornier 228. It's just a shame that some of these films have to include background music which I find very intrusive as you have a job listening to the flight crew and engine sound which I find more interesting. Quite a big difference to the old Trislanders. :-)
It's like an ailment, the OPs feel/think they just HAVE to include background music which - as you say - is intrusive.

Q, Are French air traffic control utilised on this journey? ie are my holiday plans likely to be scuppered by another strike in 2020 when flying Southampton the Alderney?
Channel Islands have their own airspace and ATC. French ATC have no influence.

No, it is spacious for such a small commuter aircraft and the left hand seat has its own door.
