Thank you guys for always sharing the science, as well as some drills, with your advice. It's greatly improved my game and helped me think through what I've been doing right and wrong. Please don't ever stop making videos.
Got to say thank you, that " keep the arm swing under the turn " tip has transformed my game , I've been working on it for a month now . Shot a 76 yesterday never broke 80 before , I had always thought because you see the pros with the increased side bend and bent right arm at impact that they'd simply carried this position from the top of the backswing. Just shows how a static picture can deceive the eyes . Great piece of coaching got yourself a new subscriber . Cheers gentlemen all the best from the UK ..
Thank you for pointing out the cause of my misery lately. Did not realize I was doing this while trying to create more lag, ie, pinned my arms to my body n rotate, instead of dropping it in the early down swing. Easy fix once I realized it. Awesome!
This is fantastic content, thanks guys. Really like how you offer 3 reasons why the club might shallow, which allows us viewers to work out which one may be affecting us most. I don't see too many youtube instructors doing that! Great stuff :)
I watch all your videos and watched this one thinking it didn't apply to me and then I watched the first part and realised exactly why I've been getting 'stuck' - i was throwing my shoulders at the ball. i.e Pin the arms to the body and rotate hard. I quickly watched the last part and then rushed out to the range and tried the fix. Not only did I find it easier, I was hitting it straighter with a solid contact. I found when I did the fix (dropping the arms) the body automatically rotated correctly. I've been playing a long time - and i'm excited by this and want to keep working on it. Thanks Guys
so much great info on this one videos will have to watch it several times. like how holding his shoulders to prevent spinning out keeps your back at the target longer, lets your arms and hands fall more into slot to prevent coming over the top. when you say flex the wrists, is that the same as bowing? thanks john
Great video. Love the channel. I know you covered squaring the face in a drive like a pro video but what would be interesting to see is club face closing in degrees and a percentage on the downswing. When I swing on plane and shallow (as best I can) I feel I can't start to square the face until the club is parallel to the ground in the downswing otherwise I lose the club head on the outside of plane.
I'm so glad I found this. Although there are similarities to other shallowing vids I've seen, it now is starting to make sense why a George Gankis approach isn't working for me. Either that or I'm misunderstanding him. I almost gave up, now I can't wait to get to the range and try these simpler tips.
Glad you found it, Matt! Shallowing shouldn't be some big production from the top of the swing. There are certinly much simpler ways to get the club in the position it needs to be in.
Another gem! Keep 'em coming. Didn’t know you were a Crossfield fan. Dan Whitaker and Chris Ryan are also good sources to check out. Your hook is having animations, numbers and practical interpretations that are tremendously impactful. How about throwing in some live Trackman and GC Quad numbers when Shaun hits balls. Just a thought.
I'm 6' 5" and I get really steep in my downswing. Your simple fix has eliminated most of the chunks I encountered in a typical 18. I now slightly drop when I begin my weight shift and I'm beginning to hit a natural draw. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Love your videos they've helped me improve my golf swing in so many ways, (especially club face is the CEO) keep up the great work. Question. Do you feel on take away you are swinging the club face on an arc like opening a door and then picking it up or just picking it up into the top of the backswing? For me the club gets to the same position regardless, but picking the club up into the top of the backswing feels more powerful through impact then if I swing the club back like opening a door? Any help would be appreciated.
If you hitting it nice and solid, and that's the feel getting you there... do that! Often time when we have guys come in and say something similar, we can't really see the difference visually. If that's the case here, then go with the feel that produces the best results and don't worry about trying to have the "right" feel... whatever that might be.
I am Korean and watching your videos in Korea. Whenever I watch your videos I learn totally new things about golf, so I just want to say " thank you guys".~!
I’ve got my clubs a few degrees upright. I’m getting them slightly flatter due to my iron swing feels absolutely different from my fairway wood swing. That move holding his shoulders and getting him to drop his arm gave me some confidence in this new change about to happen. This steepness carried over into my fairway woods loosing all power and accuracy.
Great video. While watching, I was also wanting a discussion of the lead arm position in the downswing. At what point in the downswing should the lead arm become perpendicular to the ground? Perhaps a better question is: what are the proper lead arm angles in the down and through swing?
I’ve messed around with this a lot as of late, and found that doing this also requires a check on arm tension and grip pressure. Just as an observation being too tight seems to make flattening a lot more difficult and hard to repeat.
Sequence is always and I repeat always the issue. Many people do not understand the sequence. I finally had a lightbulb moment. You really get your whip and speed from getting sequence which causes lag which gets that trail elbow in the right spot then the whipping action from extending the arms
Great video guys! I’ve been trying to figure out my fat chunks for a good while. They only happened a few times around, but they kill a score, and are so frustrating. I’m sure that my problem is the arm wrestling move on these occasions. Any other tips would be greatly appreciated, both by my scores and also my psyche:-)
A lot of time that arm wrestle move originates in the shoulders (rear shoulder mostly). Feel like that shoulder is moving away from your ear right off the bat.
Truth! Figured outage first after finally having had enough of the shanks for like 9 months (it was ridiculous and maddening!), arms down before the shoulders pick up rotational speed is now a key principle for my understanding the concept of the golf swing. Figured out the lag illusion a couple of years ago just from the anatomy of the wrist joint. As a coach of throwing athletes the 3rd one seems kinda obvious to me but given I was a dummy about the first I can understand how it could be missed.
Athletic Motion Golf I’m thinking it was offered to counter the “pulling the rope” thought and consequently steepening the shaft. That’s the hard part about figuring this stuff out - what might make sense in one context is completely counter to a different context.
Is the video of the Pro vs Am "Golf Swing Timing" another reason for the steep? It is for me, as that last "lift" causes the club to kick out and over. Any thoughts as to what to do? Thanks, Tim
I don't recall exactly where that one came from, it may have been custom made. But you can go to Amazon and search "foamnasium" they have foam wedges that look to be nearly identical to the one in the video.
Totally unrelated to this video, but perhaps a future video...I've been feeling this for a while now but still haven't quite figured it out, but it seems to be the key to a good swing for me.... when the club feels in balance during the back swing I tend to strike the ball really great, and when it doesn't I feel like I have to manipulate the steepness and face angle to even have a chance of a decent strike. I have found what helps is lower hands that are about a hands width from my thigh at address with the mid to short irons as does only slightly bent knees and not bending forward too much. Equally a short one piece takeaway before quickly rotating the club so the butt end points on-plane early in the swing and leading the rotation with the right shoulder and left arm. My question is, what makes the club feel like its in balance (in the slot?) and smooth-moving in the back swing? When I get it it just feels very smooth and where it's meant to be. I've tried with three different 7 irons and it seems the lie angle, shaft length and club head balance have an effect. Hope that makes sense.
Makes complete sense. When that thing gets out of balance the manipulations and wrestling start. What you described is what we do quite often to help guys get it back in balance. That's some very intuitive awareness - nice job!
In the beginning, I thought that this was going to be another useless video of telling golfers what not to do without any drills or tips about how to do it right. But I was pleasantly surprised. Thank you for not disappointing me. 🙏🏾
In your opinion does the crushing of the back shoulder happens if your trail arm is your dominant arm? I can relate to everything which you guys addressed in this video!
*I related this subject to your Armpits go in a downward direction video to stay in proper structure sequence with spine surfing at the top to lock in the target or ball.*
I reviewed the 100 series on grip on AMG web site. It seems to me that when my grip is too strong, particularly my right hand, my hands are more likely to move out than down. With right hand more neutral it is easier for to drop down or keep club head on the wall. Am I looking at it wrong? Steve
So many good things happen when you understand the stretch (external rotation of the right shoulder) in transition. Things want to line up without you having to think about it.
“And your dead” , “drop it and hump it” loved Mikes comments on this video 👌 you guys blend technology and common sense sooooo well and as always the delivery is next level👊 p.s I’m a subscriber 😊
You could put what I know about golf in a thimble and still have room left over for your thumb, but i think a lot of folks over the top troubles start from the way they manage their back swing.
Its the relative movement of down and out that creates a satisfactory downswing hand path. The arms control the down and body the out (in simple terms). If they contribute equally the hands will move down as much out as they move out, creating that nice direct path to the ball.
@@AthleticMotionGolf You're right of course-I suppose I meant a path that is smooth rather than too much from the inside or outside the ball-target line, and then a recovery at the last moment :)
Regarding the pinning of arms to the chest at 3:15, this is exactly what I tend to do and what my instructor is trying to get me to stop doing. Do you guys have any idea why people do this? Is it subconsciously equated to a "power move?" It was funny when you showed how people literally don't think about just independently moving their arms off their chest at 3:37.
I think there's a recent trend towards "passive" arms or "take the arms and hands out of the swing" and that often leads to a bias towards rotation without enough up from the arms. The main thing it sounds like you're getting good advice to get rid of it😉
Tight shoulders. I figured something out. You can get sequence by lifting front heel off the ground on backswing and replant it to start the downswing. Keep your grip soft until you are going to extend your arms give a little squeeze as you whip your club
@@AthleticMotionGolf I had to check in the mirror and its kind of hard to tell from a static position, but in general I would say the shaft is about 45degrees.
