    Great review!
    I was thinking you should compare 2 different gloves within the same "category" if you know what I mean.
    Protective: Reyes Safetec vs. Everlast Powerlock vs. Grant (orthopedic), etc.
    Puncher's: Reyes (standard) vs. Everlast MX vs. Grant (standard), etc.
    By the way, Winning's current fight gloves, while probably still the most protective of them all, weren't as protective/"pillowly" as they were before 2007.
    In 2007 they underwent a change to be a more suitable fight glove (they were too protective), then slapped the yellow oval logo on.
    The pre-2007 Winning pro fight gloves were pretty much laceup versions of today's MS-300B (10oz velcro) and MS-200B (8oz velcro) training gloves.
    You can see how bulky they are on the hands of Mayweather (Judah/Gatti/Corley fights), and on both fighters' hands in Pacquiao vs. Morales 1 (no wonder Pac disliked them so much!).
    I can't believe these were used as pro fight gloves!

      @danielhenry4365 Před 4 lety +2

      @@rigo.acosta Yeah you're right, power definitely comes from technique/speed.
      But the gloves do make a difference, even in the slightest. Every little bit makes a difference at the top level of competition.
      Pacquiao is a puncher, he needs to be doing maximum damage with thin padded gloves; Cleto Reyes.
      Morales was having hand issues, therefore he has been using maximum padded/protection gloves; Winning.
      And it's not just the knuckle thinning, it's the overall profile size of the glove, that helps with getting punches through the opponents' block.
      If you compare a puncher's glove (Everlast MX or Cleto Reyes) vs. the pre-2007 Winning pro fight gloves; the difference is pretty mind boggling. I've owned and trained in all types of pro fight gloves (including the ones I've mentioned)... There's definitely a difference.

    • @danielhenry4365
      @danielhenry4365 Před 4 lety +2

      @@rigo.acosta I'm also talking about cutting ability, yeah. Cutting ability, shock damage and aerodynamics.
      You're comparing Reyes training gloves and Winning training gloves... there isn't AS big of a difference between the 2 since Reyes trainers use latex foam padding. It's still protective compared to their pro fight gloves which are horsehair + light foam padded.
      As for pro fight gloves, yes I agree that 10oz is 10oz (or 8oz is 8oz), very light compared to 14oz+ training/sparring gloves.
      But the difference is WHAT the padding is, and HOW it's distributed around the glove.
      Reyes/Everlast-MX pro fight gloves use a VERY thin piece of foam + mostly horsehair in the knuckles, and the overall padding "system" is distributed almost equally around the whole glove. That horsehair tends to split as the fight progresses, breaking down from the striking surface.
      While pre-2007 Winning pro fight gloves were simply 10oz/8oz versions of their training gloves, Winning Japan's patented special 3-layer foam system, which is MOSTLY distributed around the knuckles.
      So we're talking about THIN horsehair vs. THICK 3-layer specialized foam system in the knuckles.
      I can literally feel my knuckles through a brand new pair of Everlast MX or Reyes pro fight gloves, while I cannot in a severely used pair of 10oz Winning MS300B velcro gloves (which are velcro versions of the pre-2007 Winning pro fight gloves).
      There's a reason Winning changed their fight gloves in 2007... it was too protective, so they removed 1 layer.
      There's a reason Mayweather declined Maidana's choice of Everlast MX fight gloves... they have even less knuckle padding than Reyes. (And the British Boxing Commission banned the MX fight gloves from all bouts sanctioned by them.)
