    I was delighted to see Star Wars: Shadows on the Empire on a Steam sale on PC. I originally beat the game on the N64 on Easy difficulty when I was in middle school, but I regretted not being able to finish it on Medium, since it unlocks an extra ending. This game hearkens back to an age when games held your hand less, and enemies were sometimes ridiculously hard to beat.
    Overall, it's a great story, and I prefer this version over the N64 since there are 3D cutscenes and voiced dialogue. In the N64 version, the cutscenes are 2D with no voiceovers. It was also great to finally unlock the secret ending after all these years.

    For some reason, I remember spending a disproportionate amount of time on this level as a kid, I would've been 6 or 7 at the time. I think it took me a long time to complete, but apart from that, I used to just start up the level and hang around the ship, check out the insides of it etc and just *exist* in the world as a way to relax after school. Sometimes when I felt like hiding from enemies I'd just go chill in the ship, because it was "safe" there and it was my spot to hang out.
    It's kinda funny how the mind of a kid works, and how easily occupied we will be by the most random things. I've heard stories of young kids doing similar things in Breath of the Wild, where they'll start a savefile and will somehow manage to spend 50+ hours just messing around on the Great Plateau without even feeling the need to progress further than that. It's both cool and kind of hilarious at the same time.

      This was a thing as kid in many 90s games for me, whether open world (well, open world by 90s standards) or not: SOTE, the Tattooine levels in Phantom Menace, Little Big Adventure 2, Grim Fandango, the list goes on. Games with well crafter atmospheres really let you just hang out in the world.
      These dudes actually call it a hangout level in this video, which made me remember those times, and now your comment too. czcams.com/video/SMRiFsFwDQg/video.html

      That's how I treat the modern fallout games and I'm 35. I do get around to completing things but it takes me a long time, only beaten 3 but I put at least 200 hours into each of them (except the first). Used to love RPGs when I was adolescent but now I'm much older and prefer the fast paced, quick reflexes kind of thing like gears of war or starcraft 2. Multiplayer of course.

    "Shadows of the Empire" was my favourite "expanded universe" in the Star Wars story, before Disney scratched it. But they can still make a movie based on parts of it, like the bounty hunters fighting over Han Solo, and with Dash Rendar hired by Leia to track down Han's location. 'Bounty Hunters: A Star Wars Story'

    • @iFlyFlightSims
      @iFlyFlightSims  Před 3 lety +1

      It was a sad day when Disney got rid of the expanded universe, but, they needed to do it for creative licensing. It made sense from a business standpoint.

    • @ict113090
      @ict113090 Před 6 měsíci +1

      It’s a shame it was retconned for various reasons. The story itself tied Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi’s events together perfectly. Idk if you’ve read the novel or not but in it the relationship between Vader and Palpatine slowly toxifies thus shining more light on why Vader abruptly betrays Palps at the end. They could always just make this canon again simply by making reference to the events themselves.

There are two of them outside the Boba Fett boss arena! One of them is on the back right corner when you jump out of the arena! The other is off the cliff side! You will see a platform by some hanger doors, one side has the challenge point, other is a 1 up!

    This game was soo much better than everything that came after! I don't know the new stuff just has too much unrealistic elements like extra shadows, shaders, reflections, etc. The modern stuff looks nothing like the original movies but this dated technology looks soo close and behaves better to the original trilogy films! I also prefer this layout!
    The rogue squadron series felt like a domesticated version of this but when you play shadows in space you feel like it's a real star wars ship battle and it sounds perfect and the missiles are even better in tracking and have a bigger impact, again, more closer to the films!
    The new games feel closer to the prequels/sequels in that it's overly faked, low stakes impact, too crisp and not lived in, with too much going on at once, etc. Just soulless 1s and 0s in a weightless marvel movie where nobody gets really hurt and everything bounces around without consequences...
    Shadows was just soo dead on in everything! I even love the damage percentage meter! The character is even better than that Cal Kestis guy from jedi survivor... You want your main character to be rugged tough not a soft soy boy environmentalist activist! lol Dash is who you wanna play as hands down! XD
