Why is the moon's south pole so significant? | DW News

  • India is celebrating the successful moon landing of its Chandrayaan-3 space craft. As well as a technological triumph for India the success of the landing at the lunar south poll opens the door to exploring unchartered territory- an area scientists believe could hold vital reserves of frozen water.
A solar powered rover will collect data there for the next two weeks. India's success comes just days after Russia's Luna-25 craft crashed into the moon.

The difference between India and China or Russia can be summed up thusly. India has a free society, a democracy, and the people are highly intelligent, motivated, and industrious. Landing rover on moon todays is not a big deal, 3 countries already did that many decades ago. But you know what's the greatest achievement by Indian
    1) We don't have powerful rockets like US, Russia and China. We used lunar and earth gravity
    2) Cost of this mission is only $75m only which is far less than above countries ( their were upto 300 million to 1 billion )
    3) India became 1st to land on South pole which is extremely difficult area due to frozen ice, cold environment and dark light most of the time.
So yeah it is great achievement 👏 kudos to India 🎉🇮🇳
