Backing out of that first home was a very wise decision. Renting for a while to make sure you like the area and can spend time researching the exact neighborhood and home is also a good decision.
I am 72 & every time something has not worked out in my life...I have ALWAYS found the reason. Sometimes I had to wait awhile...but it always turns out so much better. God has your back guys! You guys are so young...you will find your dream home. Plus...maybe by then the interest rates will be back down. Can't wait to hear what y'all decided. PS Boss baby may not want to smile or laugh on camera...but she makes me 🤣 every time!
Mom of 3 girls here. In a veeeery similar situation. We moved to Texas from NJ and thankfully we decided to rent for a year because we literally ended up changing our minds a few months in. Couldn’t stand the heat and hubby couldn’t get enough work. Also found a lot of structural issues in the homes we visited. My husband is a freelancer (cinematographer) so buying our first home in NJ in 2016 was super stressful because of how his income works. So I can relate to that stress as well. We ended up returning to the north and settling to rent in PA until the market settles a little more and we can buy closer to his work in NJ/NY. Cost of living was lower in Texas too but also the work was lower pay so I’m glad we are where we are. Now he has a ton of work thankfully. while renting you learn a lot about the areas and gives you time to get to know the market and contractors. We also decided on waiting a few years until we buy again with better options. Praying you guys settle in soon! 🙏🏻 God is faithful.
My husband and I bought a 5 bedroom DR Horton home in Maryland and have noticed so many flaws as we have lived here for almost two years. When the economy slows down a bit and interest rates get better we are selling. You made a good choice!

Are you guys looking for homes in the central Florida area? It kinda looks like it based on the look of the homes… if you are, try looking into the builders “southern homes” and “highland homes.” They are more local builders and are not huge builders like DR Horton that just slap up homes every millisecond. You may find a bit better quality while still not breaking the bank. . Even if your not looking in central Florida I would look for smaller more local builders to get better quality. Even with good builders though things can be sloppy that’s why you want to make sure you stay on top of the builder constantly. My husband and i visited our home when it was being built every week to make sure things were being done right. I think it’s definitely a good idea to rent in the area while you look for your perfect home. Good luck to you guys!
Have Mason’s dad build for you. I know you hat would probably be difficult since he doesn’t live in Florida. I’m so glad Mason knows what to look for and you made a very wise decision. What area of Florida are you moving to? I have family in Jacksonville and Ft Lauderdale
